About this property

Acres of lush lawns, all natural hot tub, swimming hole on horse ranch charity

Views of blue mountains, yellow sunshine, and grazing horses in the fields of this working horse ranch flood into the big winnows in the main bedroom. Meadowlands Cottage is the remodeled wing of the Kernville Ranch house. Attached to the Mountain View listing (which you can rent separately) This one bedroom cabin looks out towards the swimming hole in the river that runs through our property. Catch a frog or soak in the all natural cedar hot tub under the light of ten thousand stars.

In the MAIN BEDROOM lush green floods in very large windows from our vast lawns and meadows. The room has a comfortable queen-sized bed and an attached ensuite bathroom. Nestled in the corner is a built-in bunk bed, curtained for privacy, with a large wall-mounted TV—ideal for accommodating little ones of or enjoying some private TV time.

The BATHROOM has patterned tile flooring, a curtained walk-in shower, and an exposed vaulted ceiling with two doors, one from the bedroom, another from the hall to the rest of the house.

The snug DEN, serving as the second bedroom or living room has super comfortable twin beds and a spacious sitting area with a large TV. For chilly winter evenings, a potbellied stove stands ready in the corner to provide warmth and comfort with plenty of firewood from the ranch wood pile.

At the heart of the house is the KITCHENETTE, equipped with a large counter, electric stove top, two mini fridges, a toaster oven, microwave, sink, and laundry facilities.

Our 15 acres of park-like GROUNDS are divided into two distinct zones. The initial 5 acres, located above the meandering river that gracefully flows through the ranch. Shaded by huge majestic shade trees, our all-natural cedar hot tub, thrilling zip line, and rustic barns.

The lower area is tranquil flood meadows, ample space for our horses to frolic and graze; a harmonious blend of natural beauty and ranch adventures. This is a working ranch and we have horses and the mules in the meadows. Part of a worthy charity, One Spade Youth Packer; that helps disadvantaged young people with leadership mentoring and learning back country skills and mule packing.

You have complete and private access to all interior areas photographed

Additionally, you are welcome to explore the fenced grounds of Kernville Ranch. Take a soothing dip in our all-natural cedar hot tub, plunge into the swimming hole in our private river, experience the thrill of the zip line, and feel free to use firewood from the woodpile for cozy evenings.

The ranch spans 15 acres, featuring two additional available listings. This is Meadowlands Cottage. There is an attached but separate Mountain View listing next door. A few hundred feet away is the Shiny Spartan listing. We encourage guests to connect with fellow vacationers. I hope you get a chance to meet Reid, he fosters a sense of community with the mules he uses for One Spade Youth Packers. For larger groups, consider renting the entire ranch for an exclusive experience.

While exploring our barns and hay loft, exercise caution, as these areas contain tractors and farm equipment essential for ranch operations.

My husband and I are thrilled to share Kernville Ranch's enchantment with others. Our approach is a delicate one – we renovated the house and its surroundings to offer families a comfortable and enjoyable experience while safeguarding the historical charm of the Ranch, where wildlife thrives.

The magic of our property may reveal itself in unexpected ways. Perhaps a herd of deer will grace you with their presence as you witness the sunset over the water meadows. Or your children may frolic through the grass, their hands cradling a newfound frog from the woodpile. Nature and wildlife will undoubtedly make their presence known during your stay.

Here at our ranch, we are home to horses and mules, and a gentle river flows through our land. Abundant water keeps our grounds lush and green, offering a refreshing contrast to the surrounding area. The initial 5 acres feature expansive lawns and towering shade trees, providing a welcome respite from the heat.

Separated by the babbling brook that meanders through the property (not currently running), the remainder of the ranch opens into flood meadows where horses and mules roam freely. Ducks, herons, and ospreys grace our skies, painting a picturesque scene against the backdrop of pink-hued mountains. It truly is a place of remarkable beauty.

Kernville Ranch offers three distinct listings: This Meadow House, the next door Log Cabin (separated by a corridor and a locked insulated door), and the charming Shinny Spartan a few hundred yards away. For larger groups, we have a listing to rent the entire ranch.

Please note that the outdoor spaces are shared among guests staying in the various listings. Our dedicated groundskeeper, Reid, visits twice daily to care for the horses and ensure the property is well-maintained.

Please note that I do not reside on-site and will not be physically present during your stay. My husband and I have both been involved in horses and hospitality for over 20 year. We run a dude ranch in Hollywood when we are not up here in Kernville fixing things. I won the prestigious Hero Award with another hosting site for hosting in 2014. I take my role as your host very seriously. I can’t guarantee that something won’t go wrong with your stay, its a big historic property and things happen, but I do my very best to make sure that you have a wonderful time in my care. I know how precious leisure time with your loved ones is and I can promise to to my very best to make sure you love it here.

My husband and I loved staying at the beautiful Kernville Ranch. We loved the quiet and the scenic beauty. I loved that the cottage was pet friendly and our dog had the time of her life seeing the amazing horses at the ranch. The community is amazing for hiking and outdoor adventures. We enjoyed hiking at a nearby trail. The location is perfect for a restorative getaway.

We very much enjoyed our time in this cottage, with the horses and the views and proximity to lakes and mountains and rivers. Highly recommend.

Enchanting Property
We enjoyed our stay at the Meadow house so much. It was close enough to downtown to grab a quick meal but far enough away to be peaceful. We had such a relaxing time. I am in love with this vacation rental. The Meadow House is only one bedroom with additional sleeping in the living room or common area. You can really only do toaster oven or simple meals in the kitchen. There is plenty of dining in town though so you may not need the kitchen at all.

Being next to a horse ranch was amazing, but the property itself was less than stellar. Cobwebs, musty smell, shower drain was clogged, no coffee maker, and I could go on

My husband and I love Kernville Ranch. We have both been involved in horses and hospitality for over 20 year. My husband manages a Dude Ranch in Los Angeles and I am managing the rental business up here in the Kern River Valley. I won a Hero Award for hosting vacation rentals in 2014. I take my role as your host very seriously. I am also a painter and a mum. I hope that you have a wonderful time making memories here that will last a lifetime.

Why they chose this property

Kernville Ranch is beautiful. We are very grateful to be able to share our love of the ranch, the town and the wilderness with you. Nestled in the water meadows and originally a dairy, Kernville Ranch is just a 10 minuet walk from the center of Kernville. Plenty of fishing and white water rafting, hiking and hot springs and snow play. Explore the lake for water-sports, the high country for pristine wilderness and a little snow. The town is full of restaurants, antiques stores, and a wonderful museum, rich with snippets of history heritage of this Wild West town

What makes this property unique

We are at the base of the immense wilderness of the Sequoia National Forest, next to the Kern River and Lake Isabella. The area is renowned for hiking, fishing, river rafting and wilderness experiences abound. We are also just a 10 minuet walk to the town with all the modern conveniences of restaurants and shops, banks and such.

We have a river that runs on the property (April through December). The swimming hole in the summer is a lovely natural playground. Catch frogs, watch the herons and osprey, maybe say “Hi” to the barn owl or the badger by the gate. Enjoy the snow and little ski resort just 15 minutes up the hill.

Adventures abound on Kernville Ranch.
