About this property

Spectacular, Two-structure Oceanfront cottage, 3 min. to beach

You will love this spectacular, private perch overlooking the ocean. Two newly built cabins are joined to create this sweet oceanfront cottage complex on the shimmering shore of Cape Breton Island. The charming, cedar-shingled structures were created in the island’s traditional building style, yet they are definitively modern—spacious, filled with amenities, and flooded with natural light. Looking out over the ocean, you’ll have some of the most memorable vistas in all of Cape Breton, and take in every incredible sunset, every passing eagle.

Although there are not many reviews for this new cottage, please check our other listings/ reviews to get a good sense of the experience we offer here: VRBO #4265347 #277105 #203860 #382569 #3490361. This cottage changes over on Sundays only.

These twin cedar-clad cabins feature soaring rafters, whitewashed interiors, and sleek Pine floors, offer the best of modern beach house styling with a reverence for Cape Breton’s traditional architecture. Sliding-glass doors give way to a large deck that joins the cabins, and which is perfect for outdoor cooking and lounging. A wood stove in the living room is great for relaxing on Fall days. The handmade dining table, a generous kitchen, storage and cooking equipment, all make it a great place to linger over meals full of local specialties. The leather couch is a perfect spot for connecting with friends, (especially with a fast fibre-op connection for wifi), digging into a good book, or just gazing out to sea. Watch storms develop on the horizon and play themselves out before they reach you. When you can tear yourself away, you will find our coast to be one of the most spectacular parts of Cape Breton, with lots of beaches (three within 5 minutes) dramatic cliffs, great restaurants and world-class golf at the nearby Cabot courses.

The connected bedroom/ bathroom cabin with its beautiful handmade desk, queen-size bed, and bunks, gives you a bit of separation if you bring some work along on your visit, or if you want to put your kids to bed and let them settle without disturbing them. There are vaulting ceilings, boarded walls, sliding doors onto the generous surrounding decks, and lots of storage space. The bathroom is HUGE (about 95 square ft.), fully tiled with heated floors/ tiled shower, windows (with ocean views) and lots of natural light from above.

Surrounding both buildings is a luxurious wrap-around deck, the biggest we offer at over 800 square feet. The two structures are joined by the deck and an overhead connection, and a beautiful summer sail. This two-structure design also allows us to make the most of a beautiful site, with beautiful forests all around, and stunning views and sunsets out front.

For those arriving in an EV, you will have a 40 AMP /volt dedicated car charger all to yourself in the private parking area. (a full charge in 8 hours.)

All of this on a beautiful property three minutes from the beloved Chimney Corner beach, five minutes to the Cabot Trail, a half-hour to the National Park, and eighteen minutes to Cabot Cliffs golf.

Nova Scotia is a mecca for hikers and walkers, with its Skyline Trail footpath in Cape Breton Highlands National Park and other trails in the densely wooded inland. A scenic drive encircles the island, offering stops at dozens of unspoiled beaches and bays. The cottages are located in the Chimney Corner coastal area, close to the pristine Margaree River area of the island, and offer spectacular views, thick woodlands, and privacy.

Tranquility coupled with Spectacular Views
Great place to visit for peace and quiet, reading and reflection coupled with the opportunity to pursue great hiking, swimming, kayaking and live music. Stewart is a great host with helpful local knowledge on all fronts and he maintains the cottage beautifully. They look exactly like they appear in the pictures only better. Will definitely stay again on our next visit to Cape Breton Island.

Best cottage in Cape Breton Island
Our family loved our stay here. The kids had a blast. And Stewart made sure our stay was fun and comfortable. A cottage experience we will not forget. The one week stay exceeded our expectations. The waterfront view was stunning and the cottage itself was exceptional. Stewart was very much involved and helpful in making sure we got settled in and familiarized with the area. He recommended many great places of attractions, local restaurants, gift shops and where to go for whale watching!

Chimney Corner Beauty
We stayed at TwoBySea for a week. Stewart was so helpful in giving us many suggestions regarding restaurants, and what/where to visit. He was always available to answer questions. The cottages were amazing with the views; they were comfortably furnished with beautiful decor and architecture! It was a very private setting and it seemed like we were the only two people there; however, still very close to many other towns and to the Cabot Trail. Would highly recommend for a lovely get-a-way!

Recharge and Relax
Our family of four spent a week at TwoBySea. Here is a recap of our experience. We arrived shortly after the appointed check-in time. The directions provided were clear and we had no problems finding the property or climbing the access road. The cottage was exactly as pictured, except the views are even more spectacular than the online photos. We were greeted by the owner a short while after settling in. He spent an hour giving us an overview of the area, and highlighting things to do and see. This proved very useful to us as first timers to the area. The cottage is furnished and equipped to a very high and comfortable standard, including a heated floor in the bathroom! You can drive right to the door, making unloading luggage and groceries a breeze. If you are lucky enough to secure a reservation at TwoBySea, you will not regret your decision. We highly recommend it as a base to explore this beautiful corner of Cape Breton. Pun intended!

Dream Spot
There is not good things enough to say about Two By Sea to do it justice! The location is STUNNING and the rooms/decor/layout is absolutely dreamy. Stewart was an amazing host- he gave us the best tips for places to see/eat/hike in Cape Breton (I've never had someone recommend meatloaf at a restaurant before, but I don't regret it LOL this just showed me how spot on all of his recommendations are). We are so glad we stayed here and are already looking forward to when we can return again.

I have been living here for 26 years, and Bell grew up in Cape Breton, in Margaree Valley, just 20 minutes away. We met in art school in Halifax, and after living in New York for a few years, we moved back here permanently in 1997. We both love Cape Breton, which comes alive in June and the weather stays awesome until October. There are plenty of beautiful places to explore here, even if you have lived here for 26 years!

Why they chose this property

I started building this cottage in 2021-it opened in June 2022; there was a dramatic spot on the property with spectacular views. These views of the ocean and Sea Wolf/Margaree Island are simply amazing. There is also all of the privacy one could want here. This connected two-structure building is a perfect getaway for a couple, or a young family with up to 2 kids, with complete privacy and solitude. There's just nothing else like this cottage in Cape Breton. There's a real sense of romance and intimacy here, a massive deck, wrapping around allowing maximum ease and offering a platform for stunning panoramas of the area and ocean.

What makes this property unique

Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and the scenery on this stretch of coast is particularly striking; the mountains, dramatic plunging cliffs and ocean make a stunning combination. it can also be dramatic, with 90-120 kph winds at many points of the year. The ocean is warm enough for swimming in the summer. TwoBySea offers cool evening breezes even on summer nights, and we see some of the most dramatic sunsets anywhere. Whales play in our front yard, and fishermen haul their lobster traps each year. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars.

You are also close to the Cabot Trail (5 minutes), the National Park (30 minutes), and other towns and villages (5-15 minutes). If you are a golfer, you are close to Cabot Links & Cliffs in Inverness (18 minutes), which offer one of the great and unique golf experiences in North America. Cabot Cliffs is now ranked 9th in the world (!!) and was developed by the same folks who developed Bandon Dunes in Oregon. The acclaim for Cabot is pretty much unanimous-from the New York Times to Golf Digest.

You can also take advantage of local restaurants, eat freshly cooked lobster or crab, and be only a short distance from one of the best hiking networks outside the Park, between Mabou and Inverness. There's also a fantastic boardwalk in Inverness, only 20 minutes away, which winds its way along the oceanfront, beach and golf course. There are also renowned crafters in the area; interesting quilting, rug hooking, and folk art, all worth a look.
