Tavern On The Bay Resort is a New Jersey historical landmark. The Victorian-style mansion was originally built in 1884. It was a bordello during the late 1800s and then became a hangout for the infamous Nucky Johnson (for whom the show "Boardwalk Empire" on HBO was based on) during the prohibition days.
"This place was a brothel in the 1800s where mobsters would hide massive quantities of alcohol during the days of prohibition. A gangster was whacked in the basement after messing up on an order and a young wife hung herself in room 7 after catching her cheating husband with a whore. Also, there's a ghost in the attic and he locks the door behind me from time to time."
- Sam Trocki, proprietor of Tavern On The Bay
