About this property

Hickory House - Mountain home with Hiking, Wineries, Fire-pit & Hot tub!

*NEW High Speed WIFI (600Mbps)* Settled in western Shenandoah County, Hickory House is a mountain home off the beaten track. It is under an hour to Luray Caverns or Front Royal, 11 min to Bryce Resort and 45 min to Massanutten Resort. HH offers everything you need to unwind with local wineries, trails and other adventures, AND without the heavy congestion of tourists. We invite you to kick back and relax with our extensive library or step outside to breathe in the mountain air on our 3 acre property which includes a fire pit and hot tub! The theme of our house is R&R. Rest and Relaxation. While we do have a smart TV, there are plenty of other activities: unwind with a record, sip coffee on the front porch or watch the sunset, enjoy coloring books, puzzles, games for all ages and toys including legos for the kids! (Or the adults out there who like legos)

Our library covers all genres you could imagine. From classics, to historical fiction, to economics, you name it. All books are open to borrow (take) as needed, except the two on the coffee table: Our Guestbook and HONY.

The kitchen is fully stocked for all levels of cooking. We have your basics for baking, spices, and cooking oil. An assortment of cookware and utensils allows you to put something on to slow-cook, bake a frozen pizza or create a gourmet meal.

Comfortable mattresses, endless pillows and cozy blankets await. You will get a restful night of sleep with only the sounds of the birds to wake you.

We do have a washer and dryer for laundry services. Our basement is unfinished, so it is only accessible if you need to do laundry.

We provide firewood for the fire-pit, but no kindling or lighters, so bring those along if you want to enjoy a campfire. We do take fire safety very seriously out in the woods so make sure to follow good practices and fully extinguish the fire when done. This is one of our house rules.

Wonderful Escape
The location was so perfect and exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed the trees and the expansive yard. We really appreciated how quiet the neighborhood was. Our only regret was only staying 5 nights! The house has a gravel road which wasn't a problem in the summer. We loved all the children's books and toys to entertain our little one while traveling. The location is great for adventuring to many of the regions attractions, including a stop into West Virginia. Since it is remote, you do have to plan ahead and be prepared to drive to pick up groceries/gas/eat out. We did not use the hot tub or the fire pit (a bit sensitive to forest fires coming from California) as there was plenty to do and enjoy around the home and in the area.. We did appreciate that there were spices and some basics items in the kitchen.

Perfect house for our family!
This house was perfect for our family of 5 (kids ages 14, 12, 12). The layout was great and comfortable. The house was well stocked with supplies you may need. I was super impressed by this! It was probably the best VRBO we have ever stayed at in regards to the supplies and amenities they provided. It made it so easy for our family. The hot tube was a nice treat to enjoy at night while stargazing. Towels for the hot tube were even provided! The kids enjoyed playing the games provided. The owner was very responsive and helpful We requested a late checkout and they were able to accommodate us. We were very thankful for that. If we are back in the area again we would definitely stay here again.

Great stay in the mountains!
The property and house was even nicer than the listing. Property manager was very informative and had lots of suggestions/recommendations of places and foods to visit. Overall it was a very nice stay for us, the couch and beds were very comfortable and the games they provided were lots of fun! Would recommend for anyone who wants to get away from reality and relax out in the mountains.

Very Nice Stay
We had a great 3 nt stay. The property is secluded and very quiet. Very much attention to details in the home and no issues at all. Very comfortable sleeping, good book selection, and all the amenities and more. A nice farm brewery and winery within a short drive.

Nice place to stay.
A nice quiet and secluded property. Close to Bryce ski resort which is why we were there. Spacious, clean, and useful amenities. We used the grill and fire pit as well. We had one issue and the host was quick to respond and communicate, and Sarah made it right in the end. Will stay here again when visiting Bryce Ski Resort in the future.
