About this property

Private Mountain/Valley Views: Just renovated only 5 min to downtown Carbondale!

BRAND NEW TO VRBO: This just-renovated chalet style home sits on top of a mesa that enjoys unsurpassed views of Mt. Sopris (13,000'), the Crystal River and the open ranch land below. Located just a few minutes up coveted Prince Creek, the home is only a five minute drive/ride to quaint downtown Carbondale (1.5 miles away), amazing mountain biking (Prince Creek trails), and world class fly fishing on the Crystal, Roaring Fork, Fryingpan and Colorado Rivers--all only minutes away. Skiing in both Aspen and Snowmass is only a 40 minute drive or stay local with amazing nordic skiing/ski touring and the famous Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs is only a 15 minute drive.

The one acre property is covered in pinyon and juniper trees and is surrounded by open space. Enjoy starry nights on any of the decks or patios, a bonfire in the SOLO stove, or just relaxing in one of the hammocks or hanging chairs while cherishing incredible mountain views.

The house was built like a European chalet in the 1960's by a 10th Mtn Division veteran and just went through a complete renovation. The master bedroom offers a brand new en-suite bathroom and it's own balcony overlooking the Elk Mountains. The guest bedroom offers a queen bed and the lower bedroom is equipped with a bunk bed (full and twin) just off of a TV/kids gaming nook. All three bathrooms were completely renovated with in-floor radiant heat and beautiful tile work. There is also a pull-out queen-sleeper in the living room and an office space off of the dining room that is perfect for Zoom meetings or a bit of privacy. The house also has Air Conditioning, which can be a must in the hot summer months.

While the property is incredible, its location in the valley is unparalleled. Rarely can you find such a remote feel surrounded by open space and incredible views only a short bike ride to town!

The renovation was just complete and is brand new to VRBO.

Please note: There is a separate cabin on the property with bunk beds--perfect for kids during the summer months. Please inquire with host on additional fees.

Perfect location to spend Christmas💜
We booked a place in Carbondale to spend Christmas with our son’s future in laws. It was the perfect location with a beautiful view of Mt Sopris. The house was perfect for us with individual bedrooms and bathrooms. We really enjoyed our stay and will keep it in mind next time we are in the valley. Thank you Mike for your kindness and beautiful home!

Decent Stay, but horrible smell upon arrival
The home is pretty remote with great views. You can tell owner put some money into modernizing. The smell upon arrival really spoiled the stay. The owner came by to try to fix and sent a plumber, but the smell never fully went away. The smell also has made it home with us on clothes we washed there. The first night there the owner's dog who lives nearby barked a lot and we asked owner to put him inside. Overall, an ok stay.

Carbondale is Beautiful!
Our stay in Carbondale was perfect. Mike was a perfect host. He called to check on us a couple of times while we were there to see if we needed anything. His home was perfect. Well appointed and very comfortable. We look forward to returning. Carbondale, Basalt and Aspen - they are all very close and each city has much to offer! We highly recommend this home.

Getaway in Carbondale
The house was a perfect set up for two couples plus we had room to spread out! The house is comfortable and the views of Sopris are breathtaking. The one note I would add is if you rent the house during mud season bring boots. Living on a dirt road is, well, dirty!

I have lived in Carbondale for 25+ years and raised all three of my kids here. While I am somewhat biased, I think it's the greatest town around and the recreational activities can't be beat. I am an avid fly fisherman, mountain biker and whitewater boater during the summer months and ski all winter (alpine/backccountry/nordic). I have written and published fly fishing guidebooks and river maps for all over Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming and was a fly fishing guide for 20+ years. I consider the local rivers around here the best. I am a wealth of knowledge for the area and love to share.

Why they chose this property

The property was built by a dear friend who was a 10th Mountain Division soldier in WWII. He. built the house in the late 60's heavily influenced by the mountain chalet's in Italy he loved to visit. He hand picked the perfect bluff to build a house; overlooking the Elk Mountains (with dead on views of Mt Sopris and the Crystal River Valley) and the Crystal River and only a short bike ride to the quaint town of Carbondale. The home has a ton of charm and just went through a complete renovation and has all new furniture and accessories.

What makes this property unique

Where else can you find a newly renovated chalet with privacy, incredible views and affordability all 1.5 miles from downtown Carbondale!
