About the host
Hosted by Cathy-Ann Glockner & Kelly Toole
My husband, Kelly, and I are originally from Alberta and were drawn to Nelson by the amazing lake and mountains and the vibrant and creative community. We love hiking and backcountry skiing as well as the fun art and music events in the Nelson area. Hosting people comes natural to us as we also love to travel. We are always trying to improve what we offer to guests based on what we like when we travel as well as the feedback from our guests.
Why they chose this property
Our guesthouse is located in the historic heart of downtown Nelson. When we travel, we love to be in the centre and explore outwards from there. Having a guesthouse downtown means that our guests can park their vehicle and wander the downtown core to enjoy all of the restaraunts, cafes, brewpubs, shops and music/art venues. There is activity and noise associated with the core of a town, but we trust that people loving the activities that the centre of a town offers will be drawn to our guesthouse and people want peace and tranquility will choose an out of town location.
What makes this property unique
Our guesthouse was originally built in 1916 and the building and gardens reflect that era. We have carefully renovated this beautiful home to create 5 self contained suites which have modern kitchens and bathrooms but retain the charm of the old home. The original high ceilings and wooden mouldings are intact as well as some of the wainscotting, windows and wall paper. Most of the floors are the original Kootenay fir hardwood. We love gardening and we work hard to maintain the feel of an old time English garden with Phlox, Columbines, Heather, Roses, Spirea, and a Trumpet vine (to name a few!) as well as Grapes and Blueberries for guests to snack on.
