About this property

Central between Burnsville & Asheville, creek front w/ firepit and 2 porches!

IMPORTANT NOTES: See bottom of Description regarding pets and additional booking requirements.

Attention snow lovers, and Skiers! This is the opportunity and the place to stay. You are out of the hustle and bustle of the ski resort, but only about 20 minutes to Hatley Pointe Ski Resort! (temporarily closed). Be it an escape from the crazy of your daily life at home or off to the NC mountains for an epic mountain adventure, a stay at Shake Rag Hideaway will not disappoint. Shake Rag Hideaway is a newly fully renovated cottage style home that has been in the owner’s family for many, many years. Thoughtful planning is evident in every detail, from the spacious, well-appointed kitchen, to the flow of natural light throughout every room of this charming home. Through the windows are picturesque scenes of mountains, rolling hillsides, green pastures and the creek flowing along the front border of the property. In the dark of any clear night, there are few places on earth where a peek at the sky will present the glimmer of more stars.

No shortcuts were taken in the renovation of Shake Rag Hideaway. This home is equipped with dual-zone central heating and cooling, although there are few summer nights (or days) in which it would be needed. Open the windows to feel the breezes of the mountains and listen to the gentle sound of the creek as it rolls over the rocks as it flows along. The furnishings throughout boast charm and comfort. TVs in each bedroom, as well as the living room, plenty of guest storage, soft linens, fluffy pillows and chair cushions. The eat-in kitchen is well laid out, tastefully designed and stocked with all you would need to dine in for every meal. The rear porch area offers an additional outdoor dining area with gas grill for enjoying the beauty of this location and the grounds even more. The front porch looks out towards the creek. The perfect spot to sip morning coffee or a cool beverage at sunset. Take a few steps off the front porch to picnic next to the creek. Once the darkness of night fills the sky, it'll be time to gather around the warmth of the fire pit.

Shake Rag Hideaway is located on a very quiet, dead end country road just 5 minutes east of Mars Hill, 15 minutes west of Burnsville and only 30 minutes from downtown Asheville and the infamous Biltmore Estate. Mars Hill is the closest town for groceries, pharmacy, restaurants and shopping. Walk the quaint small town and the grounds of Mars Hill University while checking out the Southern Appalachian Theatre (SART). Burnsville is lovely town with a Main Street lined with gift and craft shops, a coffee shop and more. Quaint restaurants abound in this charming little town. The location of Shake Rag Hideaway also makes for easy day trips to miles and miles of hiking trails in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Pisgah Forest and the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. It takes just 45 minutes to reach an access ramp on to the Blue Ridge Parkway for astounding views, wildlife viewing opportunities, Mount Mitchell State Park (a MUST destination just off the Blue Ridge Parkway). Crabtree Falls, and The Orchard at Altapass (for bluegrass music and dancing, yummy treats, and of course pick-your-own apples). If you're looking to get on the water, there are plenty of nearby opportunities for summer river tubing and rafting! If winter snow fun is what you desire, Hatley Pointe Ski Resort (offering skiing, snowboarding and a handful of snow tubing facilities on the way to the ski lodge) is just 20 minutes from Shake Rag Hideaway, Other great activities are Hiking such as Bailey Mountain Summit, Appalachian Trail, and Douglas Falls to name a few. Mountain Biking trails just a short 20 minutes away for Bent Creek. There are numerous activities for you to enjoy.

Beautiful farmhouse stay!
Beautiful little farmhouse in a scenic setting. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay up until the checkout. A 10:00 checkout might be fine for a hotel stay but is not practical at all for a home that needs to be tidied up before leaving. Requests for a short extension were denied and when the guests are already washing the linens and taking the trash out, it doesn’t take 6 hours to get ready for the next guest! Loved the place but the property manager needs to be replaced. I wish we were able to deal directly with the owners like other vacation rental sites.
