About this property

Grand Home on Grand! Spacious Historic Home

A stunning modernized 1917 home calling for celebration! Extremely spacious, yet cozy, this 4 bedroom is perfect for couples, families, groups of friends or business associates. Equipped with essential amenities such as cable, Wi-Fi, central air conditioning and heat. In a safe neighborhood, it is conveniently located 4 miles to the DSM airport, 2 miles to downtown Des Moines, and 1 block from shops and restaurants on Ingersoll Avenue. On-site parking fits 7 cars and fenced in private patio.

The Hamilton family built this historic home in 1917 and the "Hamilton" apartments next door in 1929. The home has tremendous character and is decorated in an authentic 50's style. There are a lot of wonderful and interesting pieces and art to explore, all while being safe for children.

The large kitchen has a double oven, electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, plenty of counter space and anything else you might need to cook, bake, or cater to a large group. There is a partial butler's pantry that creates additional counter space for serving snacks, drinks or buffet style meals. Off of the kitchen is an eat-in area for four and a formal dining room.

The living room features an inviting fireplace with two couches, two chairs, and a built in nook. There is a children's toy box, game cabinet, book and movie lending cupboards. This is a perfect place to relax or socialize.

The solarium has two couches and a chair, along with a flat-screen T.V. This room is located just off of the living room so large groups can comfortably sit and yet still be together.

As you venture to the second floor you will first find the main bathroom which has it all: double sinks, jacuzzi bathtub, and separate shower. The first bedroom is the Monet room with two twin beds, built in desk/vanity, luggage rack and a large closet (this is where we hide the iron and ironing board). The second bedroom is the Teal room with a queen bed, single's futon, dresser, furniture rack, and closet. The third bedroom, Little Versailles, is incredible with Queen bed, single futons, built in mirrored walls, chandelier and gilded sconces, vanity, writing desk, flat screen T.V., dresser and an en suite with shower. There is also room for a queen air mattress.

The third floor is a private haven! Shut the door and have it all to yourself or kick the kids upstairs. The en suite includes a shower and bathtub. Joining the bathroom and the bedroom is a large dressing area with built-in mirrored vanity. It is a great area for more than one person to get ready. In the bedroom there queen bed and a queen futon.

The outdoors has rolling lawns and a beautiful fenced in patio with gas grill; there is seating for 16. This is a great place to start your morning with coffee and the sun on your face or relax at the end of the day with a glass of wine under the stars.

There is parking for seven cars on-site and, usually, plenty of additional on-street parking available.

We loved the location and the various sleeping spaces-everyone had plenty of room to relax. I can’t say enough about the location-everything we wanted and needed was in walking distance!

Family gathering
Three families (6 adults) and 2 children (under 2) stayed a week for Easter. Ian was great with responsiveness to questions and information. The house worked well for us, especially the main floor with its spaciousness, well supplied kitchen and toilet access since an elderly relative visited daily. The bathrooms are clean but could be updated. The bedrooms are large - the third floor bedroom is accessible by steep wooden stairs so keep in mind for your group - probably not ideal for children or tall adults as ceiling is lower. Location is close to many Ingersoll eateries. Certainly a workable property for a larger group!

Beautiful home with a great location
The house was beautiful inside and out. Plenty of space inside for our family to enjoy some laughs, conversations, and family games to wind down our night. The kitchen was furnished through out, bathroom had all the amenities needed, along with smart tvs with wifi available. The location couldnt have been any better. Close to downtown that has plenty of shops and cafes. Along with a few spots to enjoy a cold beer. For how busy of a street the house is located, it was surprisingly quiet. Ian was a great host to our family and we appreciate him allowing us to his guest. Thank you!!! We are looking forward to a summer stay as Des Moines area has plenty to offer in the warmer months of the year for our family. 10/10
