About this property

Paradise on the Mayan Riviera, Minutes to a Spectacular Beach!

Set up for fun, fun, fun for the budget traveler who enjoys cycling, swimming, beachcombing & relaxing under a sun umbrella on a pristine beach with a cooler by your side.

A full kitchen awaits you & your party. Spend time relaxing in our private backyard under our palm tree while enjoying the harmonious sounds of the songbirds who visit the flowers.

Mountain bikes allow for quick & easy transportation to the lovely village of Chemuyil and surrounding areas. If you choose to use the bicycles you must be able to and willing to maintain them (ie repair and fill tires). As lovely as it sounds we do not recommend taking them to the beach because there are thorns at the beach that puncture the tires.

Casita Azul
The house is exactly what we needed, everything was there and worked correctly. Very quick access to cinotes, and Chemuyil which had fantastic food. Every night at 8 oā€™clock A gentleman came by selling sweet bread that was freshly baked having breakfast in the backyard every morning was fabulous. Transit was extremely simple, so weā€™ve got to see any of the beaches in the ruins at Tulum within 20 minutes. We felt extremely safe and the locals were very hospitable. I would definitely recommend, and would like to go again.

Not entirely as advertised
Ocean was quite a distance away not as advertised. Cenote was within walking distance and was great. Town and people in area were great. House itself needs improvement. Furniture, beds and kitchen in desperate need of replacement. Not very clean. House was cute and really enjoyed the outdoor patio.

So many centotes so little time
Thank-you Brenda and Bill!!! Our Christmas getaway to Mexico was everything we'd hoped for and more. Casita Alux was exactly as advertised, and Chan Chemuyil is ideally located for day trips. Can't wait to go back. šŸ˜Ž

Very nice little "casita" !
This was our second stay at the "Casita", we enjoy the place so much ! The situation, within walking distance of a pristine beach with a coral reef, of various cenotes, of nice local restaurants in the village of Chemuyil, and especially so far from the "all inclusives". The house itself has been much improved since our first visit in 2015 : it now offers a very nice paved backyard with hammock and deck chairs and an outdoor shower. The wifi is also very convenient to stay in touch with your family. Communication with Brenda and Bill is very good and we can feel in the atmosphere of the house they really love it ! Hope to come back soon !

3rd Time at Paradise on the Mayan Riviera
We've stayed here for for 3 consecutive years in January and have become accustom to the place, surroundings and how we've been looked after. It's valuable having a manager in the area (Marina) for help with extra towels, water problems, and answers to questions via email or text. Modestly priced, quality accommodation for anyone looking in to a low buget Mexican getaway.

Sweet property
The property is as described in a community of mainly expat retirees, who were all very friendly, some locals, and vacation renters. The draw here is the amazing beach and turtle sanctuary at X-cacal. To reach it on foot you have to cross the 4 lane highway which sounds daunting but as long as you are patient there are breaks in the traffic and then itā€™s an easy walk to the beach. It was a real bonus to have the use of a beach umbrella which made it possible to stay out longer. Snorkeling at the north end of the beach was fantastic. Also saw many colourful birds while here and used the terrific Birds of the Yucatan guide in the Casitaiā€™s collection of books often to ID them. The walk to the village of Chemuyil was easy - it has a couple of restaurants, lots of little grocery stores for basics, a couple of places to buy grilled chicken and definitely not overrun with tourists. Our kinda place. The property manager, Marina, was fantastic and quickly took care of a problem with gas on first day and kindly arranged for a taxi on our departure. Most tourists here come by car but between ADO bus, collectivos, and taxis it is possible to enjoy this spot without a vehicle. If you are looking for a quiet place away from the crowds this is a good spot. And the recent addition of Wifi is a real plus.

Christmas 2017
Our family loved this little casa! It was clean, safe, centralized to everything and the owners were also very kind. The community is gorgeous and small and a safe walk through the jungle to the restaurants. To our surprise, it had so many cenotes just a few seconds walk from the front door. It was a blast! The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, but it's not very touristy and beautiful. This casa has a special little place in our hearts. It was a fabulous Christmas there! Thank you for sharing this home with us! We were able to rest and recover after a very long and sad fall. Thank you!

Lovely little casa and great location to explore the local beaches.
My husband and I had a wonderful 2 weeks staying at this lovely little casa. The photos represent the property well. The home was clean and simple and had all the basics that you need. It was a bonus to have the 2 bikes which we used to cycle to the village to pick up groceries, although it is also just a short walk away. We took the Ado bus from the airport to Playa del Carmen and then found the colectivo bus to Chan Chemuyil which was easy and cheap. The property manager was waiting for us when we arrived. We didn't manage to get internet connection locally but it was available in lots of cafes in Tulum and Akamul. We found some lovely beaches between Akamul and Tulum and our favourites were Soliman Beach and Xcacel. Take you own snorkel and flippers - it was well worth it as we saw corals, turtles, rays and a huge variety of fish! We loved Brenda's recommendation of El Camelo restaurant in Tulum and the seafood was cheap and delicious! We would stay here again!

Wonderful stay away from the madding crowds of Cancun !
We are a family of 5, with 3 children aged 9, 13 and 16. The 'casita' really met our expectations : we were looking for an authentic experience in Mexico, far from the huge all inclusive resorts of the Mayan riviera. The village is peopled with Mexicans, Canadians and Americans. A short walk on a nice dirt path in the jungle will lead you to the nearby village of Chemuyil where you can buy your grocery or eat in nice restaurants. Two different cenotes are located within 100 meters of the casita, one is great for swimming as it is in open air and it looks like a natural pool in the middle of a natural garden, the other is more for snorkeling addicts as the major part of it is underground ! I particularly enjoyed walking alone on the beach (10 minutes walk through a nice path) and watch the sun rise in the morning, and even in the middle of the day during peak season ( we were there during the Christmas vacations) the beach was very quiet. We all enjoyed the waves during the windy days, and snorkeling on the coral reef which lies about 100 mts from the beach and is easy and safe to reach. In Akumal, about 10 minutes drive, we had the chance to snorkel with big sea turtles and stingrays, without having to pay for a guide. In Tulum, about 15 minutes drive, you can find a big "american style" supermarket, and of course the mayan ruins. The casita itself is simple, but functional. We did not use the air conditioning, because temperature was really nice. We enjoyed our meals outside, listening to colourful birds and watching friendly iguanas basking on the top of the walls. Big plastic water bottles are provided since it is not recommended to drink water from the faucet in Mexico... All windows and doors are protected by iron bars, but once again the place itself is very safe ( but you never know...). We liked the decoration in the house, very Ā“local' and personal. The only issue we had was with the internet, you have to plug a usb stick to your computer and recharge it from time to time as there is no wifi, but this only bothered our 16 year old teen... Cellular phones work very well if you really want to stay in touch with your relatives and friends ! The owners answered very quickly to our queries. We already look forward to our next vacation in the 'casita' ! Thanks Bill and Brenda !

Lovely
We enjoyed our stay at what we called "lil blue". The casita had all we needed for our 9 day stay. It was easy to find, the check in with lock box simple. We found the living room cool (A/C had been turned on), fridge plugged in, clean. The property manager was present, helpful and full of good advice. We liked the peaceful atmosphere of the neighborhood, the friendliness of the residents and proximity to Tulum ruins, Akumal beach, cenotes.

Family with small kids loved the place.
We stayed for 2 weeks as a family of 6 (Kids 4, 6, 9, parents and grandma) and had a great time. I would recommend it to a friend. Great joy for kids was a transparent clear cenote just 40 yards (meters) from the house. It's free and there are another two free cenotes withing 2 minutes walk. We jumped in several times per day to cool off. Beautiful Beach is 15 minutes walking distance. After travelling around for 2 weeks, this beach was the best. House is clean and nicely decorated in Mexican style. You can tell that the owners love the home. It has a character, it's not an anonymous rental. Fenced backyard is a great place to spend mornings and evenings. Seems that most homes around are owned by Canadian retirees, that are having great fun down there. 10 minutes walk takes you to Chemuyil, authentical Mexican village with restaurants, shops, friendly people and kids running around. Communication with owners was great, responsive with no surprises. On site manager was responsive. You will find that services in Mexico don't work as well as in US or Europe, but this house is managed with western culture and standards. You get what you are promised. So enjoy the laid back Mexican culture, but rely on this reliable accommodation.

Very cute house, unbeatable price!
We spent one week (two adults, one 7 years old child and one baby) in this very nice little house. The house is very functional, with everything to cook and make delicious fruit juices, very good beds, and also it was cool to have a CD player. Ideally located to visit Tulum, Akumal, Xcacel, etc. Chemuyil village is just may be 2km away, has everything you need, and a nice atmosphere. The only less good point is that the main road is not very far so it is not a totally quiet place. Of course, the price is unbeatable! Importantly, Brenda was very helpful all along. I recommend this house!

Beach home away from home!
Our family of four (two adults + two kids ages 2 and 4) just got back from a wonderful vacation at casita Alux. Having traveled extensively in Mexico before, we particularly enjoyed the authentic atmosphere of the nearby Chemuyil pueblo (walking around at night and nibbling at the diferent food stands, buying fruits and veggies at the weekly market, enjoying tasty meals at the two local restaurants...) and the unspoiled serenity of playa Xcacel (the soft sand, friendly lizards and cenote were a great hit with the kids!). We also appreciated the variety of activities available in the aera (beaches, snorkelling, villages, adventure parks, archeological sites) which made everyday a new adventure. The house was well-maintained and the amenities sufficient to satisfy our family's needs. More importantly, we greatly appreciated the warmth and kindness expressed by our hosts in all of our exchanges. Their energy impregnates casita Alux and has contributed to our positive experience. We would gladly return for another vacation and would recomand this rental to anyone looking for a ā€œbeach home away from homeā€ for a quiet, low-key vacation.

Best Secret Location for Authentic Mexican Vacation
My favorite beaches are on the Caribbean Ocean with cool coral sand beaches, you can walk on for miles. We stayed in Chan Chemuyil at the property mentioned above and enjoyed the privacy of having our own place to invite family or friends to stay. The house with two bedrooms was large enough for our son, daughter in law and grandaughter to stay with us for 2 of the 4 weeks of our vacation. We routinely visited the Turtle Sanctuary Beach across the highway with a packed picnic lunch and for a change, went to Playa Akumal to snorkel and swim with the turtles in the protected bay. A short walk up the road leads to the quaint and authentic Mexican village of Chemuyil where we ate amazing fresh food at some of the local restaurants there. We rented a car near the airport in Cancun, drove to the house and found the place without difficulty. The house was readied for our arrival with fans on, hot water and a wealth of information to discover and plan out events for our entire stay. The amenities were superb, we shopped in the local village on market day and at the large grocery stores in either Tulum or Playa Del Carmen, cooked many great meals and ate out at different restaurants for reasonable prices. I would recommend this property to any of my family or friends as it was a very affordable, luxury vacation where we felt comfortable and safe. I hope to return to this haven of unspoiled paradise for many years to come, so I can experience the treasures of Mexico before it becomes overdeveloped.

Why they chose this property

We love to vacation on the Mayan Riviera; the sun, the white sand beaches, the food, and the Mayan people make this area remarkable. Our casita is 75 minutes from Cancun International Airport, 40 minutes from Playa del Carmen, and 10 minutes from Tulum. We are a 10 minute walk to Chemuyil which has all the amenities, including great restaurants, a pizzeria, bakeries, grocery stores, clothing stores, and a fruit and vegetable market.

What makes this property unique

We enjoy our time outdoors as much as we can. There is swimming, body board surfing, and beachcombing at our local beach, or swimming with the turtles in Akamal. We love to explore the Mayan ruins and enjoyed climbing the pyramid at Coba ..... that was exhilarating my wife says.
