About the host
Hosted by Teresa Monaco
Ernie and Terry Monaco, the American owners of Chateau Le Mur, have a had a long history together of joining a romantic, theatric, and creative Spirit.
Married for thirty some odd years, (they have now lost count) they have lived a life of adventure traveling the world collecting interesting artifacts and experiences.
Having met in Chicago while Ernie was studying Urban Planning, and Terry Graphic Design, they set out to conquer the world. After settling war refugees in Chicago, feeding the homeless in Philadelphia, renovating tumble down houses in California, they finally set out with their two kids to the tiny but wealthy nation of Qatar. While there, Ernie helped design and manage a city on water, and Terry taught at an American University, wrote and directed comedic, musical plays while at the same time together managing a Christian youth group and underground church.
They have had the opportunity to travel the world and have met many precious people from all walks of life, learning along the way that life can be extremely wonderful—and at the same time very, very challenging.
Therefore they have created Chateau Le Mur to be a magical, peaceful haven from the world, and invite you to come share in what they have created here. From a fairy-like castle filled with treasures collected from all over the globe to the whimsical ‘Rapunzel's Tower’, ‘The Knight’s Chambre’, ‘The Fairy Room’ and ‘The Dark Enchanted Forest’ to the fabled personages who ‘at one time lived in the manoir’ they've created a place that calls to the child in all of us.
Ernie and Terry are fortunate at present to have their daughter, Arianna, and grandson, Tristan, living with them, along with two fluffy cats, one timid scruff of a dog, a gentle miniature pony, and some teeny-tiny sheep.

Why they chose this property
The Monaco's originally purchased this property because it allowed them host various activities and large numbers of guests during holidays. The 181 acre estate includes the Chateau as well as a 15th century Manoir that has 4 individual furnished apartments with matching Medieval furniture and decor. It is a fascinating historical property, inhabited in prehistoric times evidenced by government protected 'Menhirs' (pre-historic standing stones) located on the property, remains of a Roman Military camp, chariot drive, and temple, medieval arch, and remains of moats and lookout areas. 'Le Mur' in French means 'the wall' (berm) that the Romans built to overlook the area. Rich in history, with legends of knights, an evil Lord, his princess daughter, a Saint with the ability to perform miracles, and wars between clans and villages (all chronicled by local village historians) It is a fascinating place to live and visit. The 'Le Mur' estate includes two orchards, a 'dark enchanted forest', walking trails, and a working dairy farm.
What makes this property unique
Situated on the highest hill in the surrounding countryside (a great military advantage when under Roman rule) the views are extraordinary. There is complete and total privacy, and yet the property is located at the center of everything wonderful Brittany has to offer. The Monaco's like to think of Chateau Le Mur and Manoir du Mur as a piece of history that they are temporary caretakers of. They have been fortunate to have spent a lot of time traveling the globe purchasing items with the Chateau and Manoir always in mind. They have literally sent crate-fulls of furniture and artifacts to France from various places they have visited, that have a medieval yet whimsical feel, and in keeping with the themes of the romantic Chateau Le Mur and the medieval Manoir du Mur.
