Beautiful location on Lake Shoals
Overall my family absolutely loved our stay at this location. There are a few things that I think need to be mentioned in the listing. This vacation home is the basement level of the home that is shown in the listing photo. To access the rental, you have to go down quite a few stairs and then up another set of wooden stairs that lead you to the back patio entrance. This is the only entrance to this rental, and is not an easy trek with luggage. There are kayaks to be used, but they were not clean. I was able to pull the yellow one out and it was covered in spider webs and dirt, and a wasp nest. I was able to rinse it down a bit with a bottle of water, but it would help if there was a water hose in the back to spray them down. The listing also listed coin laundry, but there was no laundry facilities on the premises. It would also be helpful if there was an iron on the premises. Despite these issues, my family loved the lake house. We had a great time exploring the lake, playing pool and ping pong, and the location itself is great. Not much around, but central to several day trips (we went into Hiddenite to mine, spent a day at Blowing Rock, and drove out to the Biltmore Estate one day. The neighbors were also very friendly. Overall we had a great week.

Mixed emotions
Property was very well taken care of and put together. Comfortable and cozy for sure. Spoke with the actual property owner and he was very pleasant to communicate with and extremely helpful. He definitely takes pride in his property and how renters at his places are doing. The place leaves very little to desire. I travel approximately 10 months out of each year and stay in rentals during that time and have been for around 25 years so I definitely view myself as someone who can speak on these. I’ve stayed in hundreds of homes and on many levels the property owner has special with this one. He’s done a very good job on this property. Stocking home with necessary items, he did well. Decor was tasteful. Comfort level was outstanding. Location was nice. I have no real issues with the property. The only thing about the property that I wasn’t real happy about was getting to the entrance. Around to the back of the property downhill and a ton of stairs to deal with. If packed light then no problem at all really. I always travel with a lot of bags and they’re heavy. Didn’t help it rained the majority of the time we were there so the walk up and down may have been worse than most will experience. Don’t take that wrong though, once you reach the inside, it’s worth the walk. Again, very nice and well taken care of property. Getting to the property in the evening after a 9 hour drive and then having issues accessing the property for a few hours with my 5 year old daughter left me with a sour taste in my mouth but that has nothing to do with the property itself. Property is very nice and so is the owner. Owner is very nice and helpful. Hopefully I worded this review in the manner I intended to. Definitely worth renting. Just wear walking shoes when arriving and pray the issues with checking in are taken care of.
