Rustic Beach Bungalow
MY cousin and I enjoyed our time at Casa Galim but the road to it is very rough so you should have a 4wheel drive vehicle and I suggest not arriving after dark. The place is quaint but rustic and you may encounter geckos and spiders so if that makes you queasy this might not be your thing. Yosi was a great host and I loved his dogs.

Lovely Caribbean Jungle Retreat
We spent a total of 19 days in Puerto Viejo. We spent the 1st part of our time in town with all the hustle and bustle, which was fun, we got to know the town and many wonderful places and people. We then spent 10 nights in the lower unit at Casa Galim, what a REFRESHING break! A mere 2 miles from town that seemed like a world away. Secluded and quiet with the exception of the crashing waves. Very private with a beautiful black sand beach a few footsteps away, sloths 20 feet from our front door, beautiful birds, butterflies and so much more. We rented a 4-wheel drive vehicle, which we recommend if you want to go to town for supplies, dinner or visit nearby beaches, parks and attractions. A vehicle is not necessary as there is taxi service to the rental. Yosi and Esther are wonderful gracious hosts and were very helpful with recommendations for fabulous places to eat and visit. We enjoyed their company and our conversations very much. They set us up with Tino, a guide at Manzanilla National Refuge, who was fabulous, we learned so much. Manzanilla is breathtaking. Yosi also went with us to BriBri as our guide and translator, it was probably our favorite place visited. Yosi & Esther are very in tune with nature and the natural resources. They use solar power, collect rainwater, use gravity system to move the water, and so much more. They are very respectful to the environment and their guests. We loved the company of their dogs Motex and Johnny. Yosi, we didn’t mention the dogs first, LOL. The home is comfortable and welcoming and has everything you need. We would recommend Casa Galim to anyone apart from those who like a sterile luxury type environment. This place is unique and can’t be found just anywhere! Remember, you are in the jungle here! We are Wisconsin, Upper Michigan tent campers so we are accustomed to nature and all it offers up. This is a whole different level of awe and beauty! We will be back!

Fantastic place to relax away from it all. At the end of the rood on a quiet beach. The owners live in the same compound, and they were very helpful without ever intruding on our peace and relaxation. Amazing place with oceanfront view, surrounding rain forest, and few people around. Nearby hotel has a good restaurant, and town is only a 5-10 minute drive for those who don't want to self-cater.

Amazing Beachfront House
We loved our stay at Casa Galim. Yosi is such a great host. The house was clean and the view was incredible. His two dogs are very friendly and were great company during our stay. They even liked to join me on my morning run. We will definitely be back to Casa Galim.

Amazing private beach location with charm and gracious hosts
We loved our stay at Casa Galim. We stayed downstairs in one unit and my parents upstairs in the other. The beach is steps away for the kids, town only a 10 minute drive. Yosi helped us find a cook to do shopping and cooking for our 6-person group and we could concentrate on making the most of our time (not cooking and cleaning!). The decor was lovely, the home clean, and enough space for us to have a little separation and not on top of each other the whole time. And the dogs were so well trained, they never even attempted to come in the house. We would definitely stay again if we get back to the area.

Perfect Private Tranquility & Beauty
Our stay at Casa Galim was the perfect ending to our stay in Costa Rica! The host Yosi is kind, genuine and very helpful- always available when we had questions or just wanted to hear a story. We were unable to meet Esther as she was out of the country with family but I'm sure she is just as wonderful a host. The breeze on the upper floor veranda is so pleasant & night time sleeping was cool- no need for the ceiling fans. The beach at Playa Negra is gorgeous and very private. Hearing & seeing the waves all day & night was so soothing to our souls. We only saw a couple people on the beach our whole stay of 4 nights. The dogs Motek & Jonny were delightful! So well behaved & fun! They were perfect beach & veranda companions. I concur with another reviewer in recommending a 4 wheel drive vehicle, the road out to the house is bumpy, although we had no issues it seems advantageous. The property is private but only a 10 minute drive back to the main road for supplies, dining & night life. The hotel Banana Azul only a 5 minute drive. If you want/need tranquility away from the hustle bustle this is the place for you! Thanks Yosi we'll be back!!

Charming Beach House Off The Grid
This is a lovely vacation place! Our family of 8 stayed here and had a wonderful time! We found it to be clean, friendly, safe, welcoming, relaxing and delightful! We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it as a wonderful retreat! This beach house is off the paved roads, so you have drive about 1 km along a beach road (sand, packed sand, gravel) to get here. You drive past Banana Azul. We rented four wheel drive cars with good clearance. I'm not sure that a small Honda Civic type car would make it all the way back. There is parking at the beach house, but a big SUV would have trouble sharing the space (or making it through some of the narrower parts of the beach road - it can be done, just drive slowly!). While we were there, there were 3 cars parked. They fit just fine. This beach house has solar panels for electricity. No television or microwave. I didn't miss either one. There is a two burner stove top with plenty of pots and pans and basic kitchen tools for simple cooking (pancakes, chicken, rice, etc). The beach house uses well water and rain water for the indoor plumbing, so you need to be careful with your water usage. If you want long hot showers ... wrong place to stay! If you want a quick daily shower with a nightly foot washing to remove sand, there is plenty of water for that! The hosts provide 5 gallon jugs for drinking water. We didn't want to risk drinking tap water, so we drank the bottled water. Did we need to? I don't know. We played it safe. We didn't notice any mosquitoes while we were there. The ocean breeze keeps them away! The house has geckos that chirp. It is in a jungle. We LOVED the geckos because they are adorable and eat bugs. I think they are a wonderful part of Costa Rica. If they scare you, this is probably the wrong country to visit. There are two guard dogs that are friendly and bark. They were wonderful. The kids petted them all day and the dogs were delightful. We liked having the dogs around the house at all times. We stayed in the bottom unit of the house pictured. It has two bedrooms and a large living space. One bedroom has a double bed, the other bedroom has two twins. There are two twin beds in the living space. We liked falling asleep to the sound of the waves outside. There are screens on the windows (no bugs in the house), but no glass. We were quite comfortable with the temperatures. We never needed the fans.

Hammock Heaven
A very special place. Yosi and Esther have created a little eco friendly haven to retreat from the world. A rare pleasure to lay in a hammock and watch the waves roll in, listen to the sounds of the jungle and smell the night blooming plants as you fall asleep at night. It is down to earth and real, just like the rest of the this amazing part of Costa Rica.

Beautiful tropical paradise!
Our stay at Casa Galim was amazing. The house was just the perfect size for my husband and I. It was very quaint and relaxing, and you can't beat the view! The huge porch with hammocks over looking the ocean was awesome! We went to sleep listening to the waves and had our coffee on the porch in the morning. Yosi and Esther were wonderful hosts! They are so friendly and will give you lots of recommendations for your stay in Puerto Viejo. We will be coming back!

Little upkeep
This place needs to be fixed, and cleaned. The mattresses smell, the outside porch leaks , utensils are broken, barbecue was not working,(barbecue is located in owners yard) parking was at neighbors property, WiFi was pretty much non existent. A small supply of cleaning products would be useful.

Wonderful family week by the Caribbean Sea!
My husband, two kids, and I stayed at Casa Galim for a week and had a wonderful time. It is a rustic & comfortable house, perfect for our family. We loved the fact that it was a little out of town (3km from Puerto Viejo) so it was very quiet and private. Our kids spent the week playing on the beach. My husband did some fishing in the creek behind the house. The landlord, Yosi, was very helpful and gave us the information for different activities such as snorkelling in Cahuita. We recommend Casa Galim for anyone who likes to have a quiet time while vacationing on the beach :)

Incredible Beach Side House with wonderful owners
My family and I spent 6 nights at Casa Galim. It was a really nice space in the house, although we spent more time on the hammocks on the porch. Yosi and Esther were fabulous hosts, and their dog, Motec, kept us company. They recommended a few really good restaurants to us during our stay. The beach was so close, and we had it to ourselves during our stay. The black sand is really beautiful, but wear shoes on your walks. It can heat up quickly! During our stay, we went to the local botanical garden. It was okay and had many local plants. We also went to the Jaguar Rescue Center which is amazing! If you want to see many animals from the area, it is a must. Also, we arranged a zip-line tour in the jungle at the small hotel, Banana Azul, which is just up the road from Casa Galim. The restaurant there is very good, too. Overall, our stay was wonderful! I would recommend Casa Galim to everyone except those folks that like a sterile, luxury hotel type of place. I think those types of places all look the same, and could be anywhere. If you like a unique, quiet, beautiful Costa Rican place that is RIGHT on the beach, go to Casa Galim:) Tell Yosi and Esther that Beth, Barry, Eli and Vada said hello.

Loved Casa Galim!
Our family of four stayed at Casa Galim for our spring break and we absolutely loved it. Our kids (ages 13,11) said it was the best vacation they have ever had. We were very sad to leave. Yosi and Esther are amazing hosts. They are lovely people who go out of their way to help you have a wonderful time. We all loved their sweet dog Motek, who greeted us daily and went on beach walks with us. Yosi and Esther helped us book excursions and even called us taxis since our phones did not work. Casa Galim is secluded and quiet. You will relax to the sound of the ocean on one side and the jungle on the other. One day we saw a sloth in the tree right outside the door! There is plenty to do in town (Puerto Viejo) and lots of daily excursions. We did a tour at nearby Cahuita National Park where we saw sloths, monkeys, iguanas, snakes, and more. We did the chocolate tour at Bribri, SUP at Punta Uva, and zip lining. After our adventures we would come back to Casa Galim to relax in the hammocks or on the beach. I cannot say enough good things about it. It really is a special place.

Casa Gali Costa Rican visit
We can't say enough good things about our stay at the Casa Galim! Our hosts Yosi and Ester were extremely helpful. We had our own beach, went into Puerto Viejo, booked excursions thru Exploration at the Banana Azul. It is very secluded and the loudest sounds you will hear is the roll of the ocean waves. We loved our experience.

Loved Casa Galim
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa Galim. I traveled with my wife and kids and we simply loved it there. The second floor unit provided a perfect retreat for us once we were finished with our daily activities in the area. The seclusion was wonderful. The beach is just a few steps away, and the pristine Cahuita National Park is just a kilometer or so up the beach where we did some exploring. Yosi and Esther were fantastic hosts, concerned with our needs yet giving us plenty of space to soak it all in. It was very nice of them to call a taxi when I needed one. My daughter loved the resident dog, and my kids basically lived in the hammocks for five days. Next time you're in the Puerto Veijo area, you won't be disappointed with Casa Galim.

I miss Casa Galim!
Oh, I miss Casa Galim so much! Yosi and Esther and their pup, who greeted me every morning, were wonderful! I spent my birthday here and Esther lovingly put together a lovely, natural gift...all things from their land. The land! With the sound of Ocean and jungle sounds, it was divine! I loved seeing the baby Caiman, the many iguanas, birds, and all of it! So here I am in 20 degree weather dreaming of Costa Rica. What a precious place. Yosi and Esther live organically and as natural as can be, which I appreciated so very much. Thank you, my friends.

Galim, Sweet Galim.
My husband, mother and I stayed at Casa Galim and were greeted with warm smiles, big waves, a spectacular sunset and sweet dreams. Yosi, Esther and their sweet pup Motec were so kind and spent a lovely evening chatting with us on our porch. We rented bikes in town which proved to be the best way to move about town and to the house. No car is needed although there is space for one. We cannot wait to return to such a peaceful getaway.

A tropical escape!
I traveled with a group of 11 UPeace students to Casa Galim to spend a weekend studying. It was a perfect, tranquil getaway!! Esther and Yosi are generous, kind hosts -- even when we arrived at almost midnight the first evening. The location is private and quiet; we had the beautiful stretch of beach to ourselves; the balcony was our gathering spot for dinners together; the hammocks ideal for escaping! We are already planning our return!!

Casa Galim - a little bit of Heaven on Earth!
Casa Galim is a magical place with two of the most hospitable hosts I have ever met! Yosi and Esther are a true delight and a made our stay at Casa Galim a fun and memorable experience. Along with their dog Moket we felt like part of the family. They were always there when you needed them and helped make us feel right at home in Puerto Viejo. Being snuggled away in the jungle, we had plenty of privacy as well. I loved listening to the surf and animals at night and found the accommodations to be five star plus. Their personal touch and love of the house they built was felt throughout. My only complaint is I had to leave. However, I can't wait to come back and hopefully can stay longer next time. Thank you so much Yosi and Esther!!

Charming Casa Galim
Yosi and Esther have carved a niche here on the Costa Rican coast near Puerto Viejo. Their lovely guest dog, Moket (Sweetie) is also a wonderful addition to their home away from home on the beach! 9 of us (2 families) not only slept comfortably but were lulled to sleep by all the sights and sounds the jungle has to offer. There was plenty of room in the house with both stories utilized for everyone to have some space of their own.And there were plenty of fun adventures to go on as well, not to mention the wildlife to view right from the front porch or the upper deck.....nearby there is some excellent snorkeling, ziplining, hiking, nature trails, dancing at local clubs, as well as lots of food choices! Bring your adventurous attitude and you're all set for a lazy day sitting around the Casa, or driving into local towns and seeing the sights...Pura Vida!

Our two week stay at Casa Galim
Ester and Yosi were wonderful hosts. Yosi recommend several tours for us which were all exceptional. The one neighbor, who was a friend of Yosi's was very friendly during our stay. You can't really get much closer to the beach than at Casa Galim. We basically had the beach to ourselves except for the occasional surfer which we didn't mind. The house was clean and well furnished. We rented both floors and there was plenty of room for the 5 of us. The Banana Azul Resort about a kilometer down the road welcomes Casa Galim customers. You should definitely try the Zip-line Tour that is close by. Cahuita National park and the Jaguar Reserve, which were both close by, were wonderful attraction for wildlife. Some good restaurants were Maxi's and Llidia's place. Overall our stay at Casa Galim was definately a 5-star experience.

Our stay at Casa Galim
We had a wonderful vacation staying at Casa Galim. Yosi and Esther live next door. We really enjoyed having them there and they were completely accommodating in every way. They recommended a guided tour with Junior Halmer for a hiking experience to a waterfall in the jungle, with an education on medicinal plants and bird and animal sightings along the way. That day, in the same tour, we visited an indian family and their "chocolate factory". We stayed on the second floor and had everything that we needed. The home is nicely decorated and clean! towels, bed linens, bar soap, TP, dish soap were there. We were welcomed with coffee, fresh fruit, marmalade and toast. There is a coffee maker and a blender. There are an abundance of mixed breed dogs in costa rica. They were very friendly and we enjoyed the company of one that adopted us while we were there. The only time that they would bark is when there was a stranger in view. Even though it was suggested that we be cautious ( no jewelry or watches) we never felt threatened or in danger in any way, wherever we went. We hiked, snorkeled and walked the beaches and trails at Cahuita Nat Park and Manzanillo. We saw sloaths, howler monkeys, white faced monkeys and a variety of tropical birds and lush vegetation. We had breakfast food in house in the a.m. and had a meal in a restaurant near by, everyday. Yosi will make recommendations-- ALL of them were excellent! A favorite was "Lydia's in Puerto Viejo. If you don't want to stay with the rest of the tourists in a hotel-- we would highly recommend casa galim as a quiet/private retreat-- close enough to all there is to offer. In the evenings, we enjoyed laying in the hammocks on our spacious balcony, listening to the waves of the caribbean, just a few feet away.

The perfect place for true nature lovers
Yosi and Ester were amazing hosts. They are so laidback and engrossed in the beach life culture. Yosi gave us amazing recommendations to visit the Jaguar Sanctuary over the Sloth Sanctuary, which was spot on since you can see sloth at both but the Jaguar Sanctuary rehabilitates all local wildlife. We got to freaking hold baby howler monkeys. The home that they built is so well made and esthetically pleasing. You can't stay closer to the beach in the Puerta Viejo area. The place is quiet and very tranquil. We definitely would stay here again. You should have the red snapper and jerk chicken at Maxi's restaurant down in Manzanillo. Also buy a coconut outside the entrance to Cahuita National Park and walk onto Playa Blanco and find bliss.
