About this property

CASA VERDE, CELESTUN – SEASIDE VACATION HOME

Located in the Ría Celestún Biosphere on the Yucatán’s Gulf of Mexico coast, Casa Verde is a spacious, modern beach house built in 2014. It is situated on a pristine white sandy beach that stretches north for miles on an uninhabited coast.
You can view the clear emerald sea, spectacular sunsets and brilliant night skies from the main floor, or wrap-around second floor balconies.
Built on posts for environmental reasons, the house is private and safe. For those seeking tranquility in a natural setting, Casa Verde is ideal – the un-Cancún experience.
The house sleeps 6: A master bedroom with sitting room and guest room (both overlooking the beach) have a king and 2 twin beds respectively. Downstairs, a double futon bed in the den and two built-in living room sofas convert into 4 more beds. The house has two full bathrooms, a large open concept living/dining room with a built-in work space and air conditioner. The owners are retired academics at University of Western Ontario in Canada. The kitchen is fully equipped. All rooms have ceiling fans. The master and guest bedrooms are air conditioned. There is an air conditioner in the living room. The house has a washing machine, outdoor loungers and beach chairs. There are 2 bikes, 2 kayaks and a wind surfer.
Food and drink are sold in nearby Celestún, a traditional fishing village that features excellent beach restaurants and a daily market. Boat tours of the coast and the Ría (estuary) to view flamingos and other wild life start here. Fishing trips can be arranged. Day excursions to Mayan ruins can be arranged.
Mérida, the Yucatan’s capital, is just 1.5 hours away by car or hourly bus service. It has fine colonial architecture, museums and shops, as well as modern shopping malls, even big box stores and casinos.
There is a caretaker who lives on the property.

Summer getaway
The home and property is beautiful, and you will have the beach to yourself. We did encounter mechanical issues, due to hurricane Beryl had swept through the week before. Marjorie was in constant contact, and in the end, all worked out. Terrific host who went above and beyond for us, to make things right. We will be returning for a winter getaway next time.

Awesome beachfront property
This was what we were looking forward to when we booked the property. Views are extraordinarily beautiful 180 degrees from the property. Beach access is easy. Swimming every day was a big treat for us. The house is perfect and we are quite impressed with its design. It is well-equipped and provides the necessities needed when arriving. The village is within walking/cycling distance and the pointers given by the owner helped a lot to navigate restaurants and shops. We would love to go there again.

Paradise in Celestun!!!
The Casa Verde was a terrific location to stay especially if you love to be seaside. The town of Celestun was a great place to visit. The Mexican Nationals have always been incredibly nice, this trip did not disappoint in that respect or in any other way!!! Highly recommended!!

Beautiful, peaceful Celestun!
We loved the simple beauty of Casa Verde and the surrounding area. It was the perfect getaway for us. Everything was just as advertised, if not better! A huge bonus was being able to see hundreds of flamingos not far from the home, even though it was late in the season. Eating marquesitas and cruising around the small, but fun downtown on the weekend was also fun. Having the bikes available made it very easy to get there. Everyone was kind and helpful.

Great ocean views
We loved our week stay! Didn’t do much other than walk/bike into town for restaurants or swam in the beautifully calm waters. Outdoor shower was amazing after our swim. Walked the beach every day and hardly saw another human. One could get spoiled!! Well stocked kitchen. Comfortable living area and very comfy beds. Gorgeous sunset views. Ate twice at Los Pampanos because they had the best fish, shrimp, platanos and margaritas! Marjorie was quick to answer my many questions.

Beautiful Place
Just a ways out of Celestun, but in a world of its own -- Casa Verde offers a great space to live in, beautiful views in every direction, and all the comforts of home. It's very private. The beach is wide, sandy, and covered with shells. It's a convenient location to tour the biosphere and see the Flamingos - not to be missed. The town of Celestun is a great place to eat seafood, but as vegetarians we were very happy to have the well-equipped kitchen of Casa Verde to prepare our own meals. We really enjoyed our stay.

Celestún Paradise
Beautiful, remote property a few kilometers outside Celestún that gives full access to Celestún beach culture as well as the natural beauty of the biosphere reserve. The property is well maintained with stunning views of the shoreline especially during sunrise and sunset. Pack your sense of adventure, some sunscreen and bug spray and you’ll be well prepared for a perfect beach getaway.

Living in paradise!
Casa Verde is the perfect beach location for our family. The house if very well maintained and the location suits us well. Town is only 3 kilometers away with a good selection of shopping for fresh foods as well as some delicious seafood restaurants. The beach is quiet and beautiful with plenty of seashells to discover and a huge variety of wildlife to see. The water is warm and every day had an amazing sunset. Within a short driving distance you can take a tour to see the flamingos an many other birds, we also saw multiple crocodiles. We have visited twice now, and will return.

CASA VERDE - NICE VACATION HOME
Nice home, nice beach and birds, birds, birds. If you’re not a birdwatcher, live here for awhile and you might become one. We stayed the month of March 2019 and enjoyed the beach, the beautiful sunsets and the hundreds of birds of many species. Early morning time spent on one of the balconies is a real treat, because in addition to birdsongs there are dozens of fishing boats passing on the way to the fishing grounds. The night sky and sound of the surf are perfect endings to the sun-filled days. We rented a car from Enterprise in Cancun and had no vehicle or driving problems, but driving in Mexico is reminiscent of Cairo or Calcutta. Surprisingly, we only saw one accident, but dozens of near-misses. Bottom line is we enjoyed our stay in Casa Verde and would recommend this home to anyone seeking privacy and relaxation.

Paradise Found!
Casa Verde is a beautiful, perfectly maintained house set on a pristine beach near a very friendly village. After renting many houses in Mexico, this house was unlike anything we've experienced. Everything worked! Hot water, electricity, WiFi, AC, house telephone to call U.S. and Canada, washing machine, comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, amazing views from every room....... Victor, the caretaker who lives on sight was helpful and checked on us. We felt extremely safe and comfortable. Great place to get away from it all! Counting the days until our return.

Perfect spot to relax, enjoy nature & explore local sights!
Lovely spot next to a nature reserve – off the beaten path but still accessible to Mérida and other sights of Yucatán peninsula if you have a car (or use local buses to see life close up...). No vehicle required for a very pleasant, secluded stay: local trici-taxis can bring you to and from town for anything you need, and there are bikes provided with the rental (maybe 15-20 minutes right to Celestún, likely less once they finish paving the road -- most everything you'll need can be found there). Sleep to the sound of the waves after enjoying stunning sunsets over shell-studded white beach and gazing at the brilliant starry sky. Wake to watch pelicans, humming-birds and many other wild fowl from the nature sanctuary next door: the wild surrounds you! Swim in the warm waves or paddle kayaks up & down the coast. Local mangrove tour by canoe (Manglares de Dzinitún) highly recommended as well. We loved our stay here – we hope to be back soon!

best in yucatan
highly recommended to the relaxation and privacy seekers, but not only to them. this is a gorgeous bauhaus style two-bdrm., two-terrace house, which offers all of the amenities we enjoy in north america. it borders on a natural reservation and it's conveniently far from the other beach houses, so it allows for genuine privacy. the kayaks and the bikes in the garage are there to cater to the willing. the village (celestun), which is three kilometers away, has plenty of restaurants (especially fresh seafood) and shops. one can take trips from there to the flamingo reservation (5 minutes), the petrified forest (20 minutes) or the uxmal mayan ruins (1.5 hours). i rented a car in merida (1.5 hours away) for some 7500 pesos (under 20 canadian dollars/day); the roads are in decent shape, except for the last two kilometers to the house. i stayed there for three weeks and all this time i saw no more than 5 people passing by daily, so the beach is almost private.

Best Celestun Living
The casa is farther down the beach but is worth the extra kilometer! Private, serene, well designed and comfortable. Walk out to the clean Gulf beach from the front gate. The bedrooms on the upper level have an excellent porch and grand view of the setting sun. We had a car making the 4 kilometer jump into Celestun convenient. If you do not have access to a car, plan on arranging a connection with one or more of the many jitney cabs in town - they all have cell phones and are happy to provide the transport. There are stairs to walk up to the main level and then to the upper bedrooms.

Very nice on the beach
This is a well designed and comfortable house right on the beach just north of Celestun. The beach is fairly private as this is the last house north of town, but there are a few beach walkers in the morning and afternoon. The house has everything you might want and all the appliances and facilities work well, although internet can be expensive depending on your usage. The beach road to the house is in fairly good condition, no 4x4 required, just a few potholes to watch for. Stores in Celestun stock most of the basics, although stocking up in Merida on the way in is a good idea. The caretaker Kenn is very reliable, the couple of times we needed him he responded very promptly. Overall we would recommend this to anyone seeking peace, privacy and relaxation.

Why they chose this property

After more than 20 years living in rented houses all over Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe we found this bit of paradise. This house has 2 main bedrooms on the second floor with A/C as well as in the living room. There is a den with a double futon bed on the main floor and 2 sofa beds in the living room. There is a full bath on each floor and an outside shower.

What makes this property unique

This house was designed to catch all prevailing winds. A/C is not normally required. The rising sun from the east and the sound of fishermen´s boats leaving town wakes us up, we relax at the end of the day watching the setting sun over the Gulf of Mexico.
