About this property

Escape to Coconut Grove Miami’s Tropical Paradise! Cottage w Private Garden

Indulge in the ultimate relaxing tropical escape! Unwind on a private deck amidst lush greenery & Costa Rican wood floors. Immerse yourself in a meticulously designed one-bedroom oasis with a fully furnished interior, incl. a well-equipped kitchen, coffee station, breakfast table, cozy living room, washer/dryer & blackout shades. Conveniently located in a quiet, upscale residential near vibrant Downtown Coconut Grove, with easy access to Miami's top attractions. Please NOTE: No events or outside guests are allowed at the property.

Enjoy a captivating paradise where majestic wild peacocks roam freely and are fed at the property daily.

As a guest staying overnight, you will....

☞ Wake up to the morning calls of peacocks from your comfy queen bed. The ability to dim ceiling lights at night is a nice touch. What a restful night after such a simple self-checking. The 15 min. Lyft from the airport was easy.

☞ Roll up the blackout curtains to discover double glass doors that open onto your “slice of heaven” & bring in a tropical oasis that feels like Costa Rica or Bali.

☞ "Drink in the smell of the flowering vines, including angel trumpets and night blooming jasmine".

☞ Step into your expansive natural wood deck that merges into a vertical green wall with passion fruit vines intertwined with string lights, hidden amongst coconut, palm, almond & oak trees manicured with orchids.

☞ Take out the yoga mats from your spacious closet & take your time to warm up for the day ahead.

☞ Prepare your complementary Costa Rican coffee in either the French Press or regular coffee maker possibly with milk prepared to perfection with the Nespresso frother.

☞ Why not prepare breakfast in the fully equipped & stocked kitchen. It even has under-cabinet lights like at home!

☞ Enjoy it in the hanging hammocks in the tiki hut, while admiring the orchids & garden birds.

☞ Time to enjoy the fully furnished bathroom & shower with awesome pressure, like a mini waterfall.

☞ There is shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels, a hair dryer & even sun block, what a relief!

☞ Open your spacious closet to get beach towels + umbrella & head off to the beach!

☞ Time to explore the pergola in the afternoon! Turn on the fan & lay down in the hammock to start that book you finally get to enjoy, in between naps in the hammock. I almost forgot to bring the complimentary Bluetooth speaker.

☞ It’s so convenient to have clothes washing & drying at home – there’s even detergent onsite.

☞ Enjoy cooking in the Argentinian grill & sit down for dinner under the stars & cozy string lights.

☞ Sit on the coral rocks to enjoy conversation & dessert around the fire.

☞ How cool there’s a Sonos speaker to listen to music before finishing the day.

☞ There's a smart TV, a DVD player & DVDs but let me explore some of these books…

My stay at Loquat exceeded expectations. The outdoor shower at night and meeting Majic, the peacock, were my high points. Caterena is a jewell of a hostess. Hope to return soon.

Therapeutic getaway
Everything was as advertised: the well-appointed unit, the peaceful deck in the back with tons of flora, the green and leafy neighborhood, its proximity to activities -- and the resident peacock. Caterina is the ultimate host -- warm, welcoming and accomodating. I highly recommend.

Hip pad in The Grove!
The property is absolutely beautiful. We felt like we were in Costa Rica! The backyard space is lush and extremely spacious. The peacocks are a bonus! It’s a quick walk to the local restaurants! I would highly recommend this space.

Tranquility in the heart of Coconut Grove
My wife and I booked this with the hope we could find a relaxing destination that wasn't too far from things. The property is absolutely lovely and quiet, we enjoyed relaxing to a morning cup of coffee in the back garden. It's also only a ten minute stroll to downtown Coconut Grove and a short drive to Coral Gables, South Miami, and Key Biscayne. Catarina was wonderful, the checking in process was simple and clearly explained. We loved this place so much that we hope to stay here the next time we're in Miami.

Beautiful place with a great host.
This place was perfect for our stay while dropping our son off at the University of Miami. It was comfortable and Catarina was a wonderful host. We did not get a chance to utilize the courtyard as much as I would have liked due to our schedule but it was a nice place to sit in the mornings and evenings. We plan to stay here again and will be recommending it to our friends and family.

It was a perfect fit for our needs. Catarina was such a wonderful and pleasant host.
My husband and I came to get away for a days and it felt like home as soon as we arrived. It was peaceful and away from the noise of the city but still close enough to anything we may have wanted to do. The pictures were exactly what we got and she was available to answer any questions we may have had very quickly. We would definitely come here again!

Tropical Paradise
What a wonderful place to stop and relax! The studio was so well decorated, fully stocked for anything needed to enjoy the weather. Catarina was excellent, informative and willing to provide any help we needed. The woodwork both in the studio and the backyard are stunning! The decks, flowers and layout in the backyard are so Feng shui. We walked into Coconut Grove several times and really enjoyed the area. Catarina - thanks again for a wonderful vacation.

gracious retreat
Closer to the airport than I would have guessed. Mature tropical forest surrounds the neighborhood. Short and pleasant walk to downtown. The room is very beautiful and comfortable - peaceful uncluttered space which looks out on the beautiful garden. Quiet neighborhood as well. My favorite part of the trip was napping in the hammock and listening to the birds and the wind. Our hostess was extremely gracious and helpful with orienting us and making sure we were comfortable. She had great recommendations for where to go and what to do and provided us with good resource material as well. We highly recommend this listing and will visit here again the next time we are in Miami.

A slice of heaven!
My husband and I booked Caterina's place based on a friend's recommendation. Our two day stay exceeded our expectations. The guest studio was clean, contemporary and inviting, but the real treat for us was the beautiful teak deck and garden, that made us feel feel like we were in a tropical retreat. If you are looking for a charming, zen-like experience in a quiet, old Coconut Grove neighborhood, complete with an occasional peacock sighting, then this is the perfect place for you.

My home away from home!
I stayed at Catarina's home multiple times during the Summer of 2016 and each stay was better than the last. She goes above and beyond to ensure her guests have everything they need to feel at home. The best bars and restaurants in Coconut Grove are all within walking distance! Catarina's backyard and garden is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy dinner or catch some sun. I can't wait to come back!

A great getaway spot
The unit is perfect for two people. it's comfortable, clean, and has a truly amazing teak deck in the back. Catarina was away and her friend Philippe took very good care of us. He was attentive and very responsive to questions and minor needs. The location is excellent. Coconut Grove "downtown" was very close by and the house is well situated for getting to other parts of Miami very easily. At the same time, the house is in a heavily wooded area which makes you feel removed from the hustle and bustle of an urban setting. There are peacocks roaming around in the late afternoon and a walk in the neighborhood reveals a collection of very diverse, beautiful homes ranging from cottages to mansions. I highly recommend this home to anyone who wants to be close to the action but not staying in it.

Warm, cozy beautiful place far apart from all the noise.
We loved this place, at fist before we saw the place in person we taught it might be too smal, but after seeing it we were like 😍😮 fully mouth open. It's perfect for a couple get away or a family for three, Catarina is the most welcoming person I've met thru VRBO she did made sure to make us feel at home, before I even flew when we talked over the phone she was making sure if there was anything in particular I need it so she can get it for me and that says a lot about a landlord. Anyways the place is beautiful super comfy teak wood all over the place from the entrance to the back yard (big bag yard) walking distance to downtown coconut grove .. Lots of places to eat , shopping stores , bars etc ...

Home away from home!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this well appointed, serene and tropical studio. Caterina, was most kind and considerate, starting with delightful goodies, fruits and refreshments stocking the fridge; guiding us to some of the best restaurants and sights and ensuring a very comfortable stay. We have indeed been lucky to make a new friendship and will look forward to returning again and again. Thank you!

About the host

Host profile image
I was born and raised in Costa Rica before moving to the United States for my studies. Along the way, I've had the incredible opportunity to live in diverse places such as Germany, England, and Los Angeles. These experiences have shaped my perspective and fostered a deep appreciation for different cultures and lifestyles.

Having had the privilege of extensive travel, I've developed a passion for exploration, movement, and adventure. I feel it is a privilege to discover new destinations and immerse myself in the vibrant tapestry of the world.

Despite my global adventures, Costa Rica remains close to my heart, as it is where my family resides. It will always be my cherished home, alongside the vibrant city of Miami. The warmth and hospitality ingrained in Costa Rican culture have influenced my approach to hosting, as I strive to create a welcoming and enriching experience for each guest.

In 2013, left corporate real estate life to volunteer & explore some more. From the Maasai tribe in Africa to Amazonian & indigenous tribes in Colombia & Costa Rica, I sought deeper cultural connections. In 2021 a new adventure began when connecting with my own neighborhood thanks to an orphan peacock called Magic which was delivered in my doorstep and magically has brought our neighborhood together.

Thank you for choosing my vacation rental. It is an honor to be your host and share my passions and experiences with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything I can do to help plan and make your stay truly exceptional.

Why they chose this property

Welcome to a place that holds a remarkable tale of perseverance and passion. Originally acquired as a foreclosure, this property was abandoned for numerous years, presenting a daunting challenge. The journey began with the arduous process of clearing liens, a task that lasted over a year.. As fate would have it, I encountered an unexpected setback when the roof collapsed and the City, announced the imminent demolition of the property. Through tenacious negotiations, I was granted the opportunity to restore this dwelling to its former glory. The true labor of love unfolded I undertook a complete gutting of the interior, while preserving the sturdy cement walls and floors. The transformation involving truckloads of soil to fill the previously overgrown lake and a dense "jungle" that once surrounded it. With unwavering commitment, every aspect was revitalized, from the fully renovated kitchen and bathrooms to the installation of hurricane windows, A/C systems, electric wiring, plumbing, sewer connections, trusses, roofs, and alarm systems. Upon the completion of the project, I embarked on a life-changing journey to Africa, dedicating my time to volunteer work. Returning with renewed inspiration, I meticulously added the finishing touches, including a storage shed, beautifully crafted wood fences at the front and back, and an enchanting teak wood deck that seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape. The outdoor shower and bathroom, adorned with bamboo fences, harmoniously merge with the local lush beauty. Stepping into your vacation rental, you'll sense the essence of Costa Rica, reminiscent of the place I proudly call home. Experience the extraordinary at my uniquely restored vacation rental, where a story of determination and transformation awaits your arrival. Book your stay now and immerse yourself in the beauty of my labor of love.

What makes this property unique

Prepare to be captivated by the most extraordinary feature of my vacation rental: the abundance of Costa Rican teak wood throughout. This cherished wood holds a unique story, as it was planted by my father during our childhood in my early years. Together with the help of my brothers, we carefully cut the trees and applied the exquisite wood finishes crafted by our family business in Costa Rica. I personally took charge of the flooring and meticulous details, while the original cement walls and floors serve as a reminder of the property's history prior to our involvement. Brace yourself for an unparalleled tropical experience, as you encounter the largest concentration of Costa Rican wood in South Florida. Many step into a realm where reality surpasses imagination.
