About this property

Devcich Historic Farmstead - Farmhouse

100 years ago, in a remote part of the Kauaeranga Valley, Simun Devcich, created a farmstead. He traded with the gum diggers who lived in bush camps in the upper valley. The original buildings and chattels still remain. The Farmstead is recognised as a NZ treasured historical site, Cat. 1 for its significant historic and cultural value.
We invite you to stay at the Devcich Farmstead, experience the magic, relax and enjoy the breath taking scenery the river, bush and mountain ranges.
One bedroom, bathroom, lounge with futon, kitchenette microwave and BBQ. The cottage was originally a singleman's quarters and has been recently refurbished, however although very pleasant, it is fairly basic, and does not have a full kitchen, only what is described above. This listing is not suitable for a family with children, if you are wanting full amenities, book our farmhouse. The old 3 bedroom homestead is just across the driveway and is also available to be rented separately listed on the site.
Mobile reception for Spark and Vodafone.
The river is on the boundary good trout fishing and a great swimming hole nearby. Quite an array of exotic animals. DOC bush walks to the Pinnacles further up the valley. History tour of the old buildings available on request.
Access to the property is via a ford river crossing, in the event of heavy rain there will be no vehicle access. On these occasions there is a swingbridge access across the river and you will be met by a tractor to transport you and your bags to the house.
We also offer several activities that are available to guests.
* History tour through the old buildings - 30 mins free for guests.
* Llama trekking along the old tram track - 90 mins
Please inquire when booking extra charges apply.

Cute cabin and great spot if you like nature that’s not too far from town
A nice cottage at a beautiful spot, loved waking up to peacocks and birds wandering freely and the river ford is a special touch. It’s a great placement if you like to be 10-15 minutes out of town to have some peace and quiet.

A little oasis
This is cute, quiet and has lots of farm life for those who want to say hello to the lamas or peacocks. It has everything you need and is very close to many tramping options.
