A beautifully curated barn overlooking a picturesque landscape. Gregg, the owner, really cares and wants to make sure you have everything you need. We stayed over a weekend when we were attending a wedding in the area. It was so nice to have a place to relax amidst all the festivities. The birdsong and bullfrog chorus led us to some of the soundest sleep we’ve enjoyed in a long time.

Romantic get away with outdoor activities for our dogs
From the second I walked in the door I was in love with rustic, industrial style of the entire place. Gregg and Molly utilized every inch of the barn perfectly. I was actually happy when we woke on Monday morning to rain, because we took full advantage of the wood burning fire place located in the center of the main living space. I wish I could post a photo I took that Monday morning. The master bedroom downstairs couldn't be any more romantic with it's own fireplace and 3 floor to ceiling window/doors that open onto a little deck. The barn feels so private and secluded yet a matter a minutes away driving you are in little quaint towns with shopping, bars and restaurants. I am going to incorporate a number of their style into my own home. We took the dogs hiking up some mountain, the views from the top... absolutely breath taking. We found a dog friendly Brewery called Sloop in Elizaville, that had live music. We ventured two nights in Rhinebach had dinner Le Petite and Terrapin (excellent), hit a local little bar - Liberty. You would have thought you were in New York City with this little bar. We visited CIA (Culinary Institute of America) and ate at a recommended restaurant Brassiere 292 in Poughkeepsie, a French style place and the atmosphere reflected it. I will make up a reason to have to go back if I have too.

Amazing stay - we would love to return
A beautiful and lovingly restored barn with hand-crafted design at every corner of the property. We loved our stay from start to finish, thank you so much to the owners, Molly and Gregg. We were a group of 4 seeking a beautiful spot to catch up as a family, to unwind and to enjoy the countryside. It was a really special get away - - to celebrate my 30th birthday with my family in mid-November. We will be recommending the property to our friends and relatives. We would also love to return ourselves. There was plenty of space for us to relax together and enjoy the barn's beautiful interiors and views onto the woodland. We really enjoyed the layout of the barn - with beautiful decking, opening onto the spacious sitting, dining, and kitchen area with the much loved wood burner as a center piece. There are plenty of other cozy spaces to sit, read, paint, nap and enjoy viewpoints. These are found in special nooks and special landings (I think children would also really like these). Also, beautiful artwork, up-cycled wooden frames and shelving throughout. The bedrooms were very comfortable and beautifully designed. I keep using the word beautiful in this review, but it really is the best word to describe the barn! The immediate landscape is beautiful too and we enjoyed walking close to the barn. With more days, we would have explored further afield too - the barn is in easy reach of lots of great trecks etc. Otherwise, the listing description is entirely accurate. The barn is extremely well-maintained, clean and with all the amenities listed. As a family, we enjoy cooking on holiday, so perhaps the only thing missing for us is a large sided dish for roasting or baking. Otherwise, the kitchen was extremely well equipped and the oven was brilliant. We were also really impressed by the solar panels installed. Truly, this barn has been so well designed. To finish, the owners are lovely, providing helpful instructions ahead of our trip and a very warm welcome. Available on site should we have needed anything. So we would like to return!!! Again as a family or with a group of friends. Either in the winter months to make use of the incredible fire places or in the summer months to make use of the beautiful outdoor deck and fire pit areas. We really look forward.

About the host

We fell for each other in Minnesota ... then we fell for the Hudson River Valley ... then we .... bought (financed) the property we could afford and turned it into something extraordinary. The process of renovating and "imagining"
the barn into the breathtaking space that it is took five years, countless Craigslist searches and buys, a few disagreements ;) and much work. We are in the process of becoming as energy-efficient as we can afford, which has included the installation of a wood-boiler, mini splits and solar panels.

Why they chose this property

The farmhouse and barn were part of a much larger farm that tended the fields all the way down to the river across the road from us, and the hill pastures behind the home beyond the visible ridgeline. Before that, it was land lived on by the Mahicans, the Algonquian-speaking North American Indian tribe of what is now the upper Hudson River valley.

We are located in a place that truly feels rural yet is close to necessities and luxuries. Gallatin is also a region where you will really begin to feel close to the hills of the Taconic Range and Berkshires.

What makes this property unique

• Tucked in a rural valley, yet accessible to Rhinebeck, Hudson, Red Hook, Chatham, Millerton, and several more, our carefully re-crafted old barn is a serene & beautiful getaway. The barn is a bespoke, one-of-a-kind gorgeous space that at once feels cozy yet bright. It has reclaimed beams and a soaring ceiling. An antique ceramic sink and a centrally-located cylindrical see-through fireplace. The space creates an open, connected feeling while still offering hidden nooks for curling up with a good book. The big windows open to an upward sloping meadow, a veritable bird sanctuary much of the year.
• The barn has a loft with fisher-price toys and a game room with pinball and ping-pong. As a getaway, the vacation can start right away ... and you may not want to leave!
