This is a very nice, clean cottage in a great location. Right across the street from the beach. Far enough from Main St that it’s less busy and the cafe/ice cream/bakery next door is a real bonus.
But there are somethings I wished I’d known before I booked.
Unfortunately the host didn’t send us the checkin details until just before we were leaving and we didn’t realize we would need to bring all bedding and towels. We had to scramble to get the right sheets/pillows/towels and since we don’t have a king bed at home we had to buy a set of sheets just for this vacation — not a great start to the vacation.
The cottage has a water purification system but the tap water really smelled of sulphur and had a yellow colour. This really freaked out the three year old granddaughter during bath time and it’s really not pleasant. It also means that you need to bring in bottled water for drinking. There was no bottled water when we arrived so the first thing we needed to do was figure out how to get bottled water — not the first thing you want to do on arrival. We also had a load of whites get stained yellow/orange in the washing machine so we didn’t use it after that.
The wifi is okay but not really good enough if someone is trying to work remotely — for one day it was almost nonexistent.
We had two very cold nights (September stay) and the gas stove/heater didn’t work. Contacted the host but in the end it just didn’t work and we were very cold. Maybe they shouldn’t list it as heated if it’s not reliable.
When we arrived we saw an oversized flyswatter and thought it was a funny joke. The joke was on us, the shore flies were so bad we bought more fly swatters and fly strips. It became a competition to see who would have the highest fly kills. Maybe this is just a mid September issue? As others have said in their reviews, there is no screen door on the front patio door which added to the fly problem.
Also, as others have said in their reviews, for a cottage that bills itself for sleeping 12 there really aren’t enough chairs. We were only 9 and we really couldn’t all easily eat together either inside or out or even comfortably sit around the campfire.
I guess, for the price, I didn’t expect these inconveniences.
