About this property

Marfa House Fronteriza--Central and Accessible

Marfa House, a two-story adobe, originally built as a railroad hotel in 1890, offers an oasis of comfortable accommodations in the heart of Marfa's historic center, only a short walk from galleries, restaurants, and bars. Our apartments have kitchen and dining amenities to provide guests with meal-time options. Our apartments also feature solid-wood beds, premium bedding, and furnishings and original art with a contemporary and West Texas flair.
Fronteriza is a studio apartment with a combination living/dining/kitchen, a separate bedroom with a queen-sized bed, area to hang clothing, and an externally vented gas fireplace, a large full bath with accessible features including a roll-in shower with drop-down seating and hand shower fixtures and accessible sink. In addition, glass block windows provide natural light. The apartment dining area has seating for four, a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, two-burner electric cooktop, microwave, bake oven, coffeemaker, and sink. A blue tooth speaker allows guests to stream their own music selections.
Fronteriza guests also have access to our unique common spaces: the second floor balcony, with comfortable seating and a view of central Marfa; our rear atrium, which features banquette seating, a fire pit, and a large screen TV; and our front gallery, with comfortable leather sofas and a gas fireplace. Our lighted entry walk provides after hours access via a keypad entry to the atrium.

State of Texas and City of Marfa occupancy taxes totaling thirteen percent are added to our listed rates . We are registered with the City as Lodging No. S105.

Host profile image
Marfa House was an historic, but derelict, adobe structure when the owner purchased it in 2005. After a 14-year renovation project, it was opened in Spring, 2019 to offer guests accommodations in a building with historic character and comfortable modern amenities steps from the center of Marfa. Our manager, Sonya, lives nearby and is available to respond to guests' needs and answer questions about local resources.

Why they chose this property

Marfa offers many lodgings for travelers, but few that have links to Marfa's 19th century old-West roots and a location literally steps from the galleries, bars, and restaurants of the town's heart. Nearly every room at Marfa House features original art that echoes a blend of Marfa's historic character and its contemporary vibe. Why not stay at a lodging that will provide you with magic memories of your West Texas visit, as well as comfort and convenience?

A WORD ABOUT OUR CLEANING PRACTICES IN THE WAKE OF THE PANDEMIC:
Marfa House wants our guests to be safe during their visits. In response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have committed to the following practices:
--The Marfa House apartments will be left vacant a minimum of 24 hours between guest residencies.
--The host will socially distance and wear a mask during direct interactions with guests. Guests will, of course, have all-hours access to the Marfa House entry and their booked unit via keypad entrance access, including for check-in.
--An antiseptic solution will be used to clean all contact surfaces in each unit before guests check in--including door knobs, appliances, counters, and mini split AC/heating and ceiling fan remotes, as well as multiple daily wipe-downs of other high-traffic surfaces such as entry door knobs, light switches, stair railings, and the television remote in the Atrium.
----The space is heated and cooled with an individual mini split HVAC units which utilize fresh air from outside, so there is no recirculated air which could result in health concerns.

What makes this property unique

Marfa House gives you immediate proximity to all the popular venues of the central historic district. In addition to its comfortable private rooms--most with full kitchen/dining rooms and comfortable living rooms, it provides comfortable common areas: Our 2nd floor balcony, our two-story screened atrium, and our "common living room" gallery allow you to meet other guests if you wish, or merely relax and enjoy your leisure time. Marfa House features free WiFi throughout the hotel. Each apartment includes a binder of information about your lodging and maps and descriptions of local destinations and restaurants.
