About this property

Cosy Farm Cottage with Easy Beach Access

Please note that Poppy Cottage can only accept check ins on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Poppy Cottage is situated on a working farm at Druridge Bay on the Northumberland Coast. The cottage is neutrally decorated and retains the rustic cottage features such as exposed wood beams, wood burning stove, sandstone flooring downstairs.

There are 2 bathrooms, the downstairs one with shower and the upstairs one with bath.

The bedrooms sleep 2 in the double room and 2 in the twin room.

Enclosed gardens mean the cottage is both family and dog friendly.

The farm is at Druridge Bay in Northumberland and the cottage is a short walk onto a sandy bay that is dog friendly. There is a cafe and ice cream parlour within walking distance and 2 pubs that serve food within 2 miles. We are ideally situated for walking or cycling the coastal paths and exploring the Northumberland Castles Coast.

Druridge Bay Country Park is a 20 minute bike ride away, mainly off road, and has watersports and cafe facilitites as well as lots of walking and cycling trails. There is a Park Run there on Saturday mornings.

Northumberland has many castles such as Bamburgh, Alnwick (Harry Potter), Dunstanburgh and our closest, Warkworth (15 mins away). There are also many historic houses and gardens locally such as Cragside, Belsay, Wallington and Chillingham.

For outdoors enthusiasts there are great local swim spots including organised dips in the sea at Cresswell. There are plenty of places to cycle and some great off road routes to the north, directly from the cottage. Watersports and other activities are all available locally. There are lots of golf courses including Longhirst Hall which is friendly and accessible with very reasonable fees.

Poppy Cottage is ideal for dogs, we have enclosed gardens and it's a short distance to the beach which is quiet and does not have dog restrictions. Both local puds have dog friendly areas.

Poppy cottage
Lovely cozy cottage for a relaxing stay. Our only disappointment was we could not our small/medium size dog off the lead in the garden as she could get out under the gates.

great cottage in a fantastic location , the cottage was well equipped and spotless , the beach was just what was needed to recharge the batteries , the dog ran free , the Northumberland disc parking scheme was a bonus , all council car parks saying disc parking is free , lots to do in the local area , to good pubs for meals locally not forgetting the ice cream shop at Cresswell , we will be booking again

Poppy Cottage
A lovely comfortable cottage, with a warm feeling. Everything there that we required, maybe a couple more 'Pyrex dishes' would have been helpful for cooking, as we ate in most days. Owners on hand and contactable if required but not obtrusive. Area is lovely, with a magnificent beach only 100 metres away. Plenty to see and visit in the locality. Will definitely return if we visit this area again.

holiday 2014
We enjoyed our holiday at Druridge Bay. The cottage was very nice and had everything needed. We enjoyed the cake that was provided by the owner, also tea, coffee and milk. The beach was a big hit with the dogs as it was very quiet and they could run around without disturbing anyone. Will be returning again.

Wonderful Peaceful Cottage
Cottage was ready and waiting for us on our arrival and the owner had left tea, coffee and scones to welcome us. As we settled in the owner called to make sure we had everything we needed and to drop of a pint of milk for us. The cottage was warm, comfortable and well equiped having everything we needed for our stay. We had two dogs with us who were made equally welcome by the owners. The Garden is enclosed with a pedestrian gate onto a verge, ideal when on foot, and double gates onto the road for vehicles. With a bit of manouvering we were able to get both cars onto the gated drive, not one as suggested. A short walk takes you to a lovely clean beach with North Sea rollers. Dogs are allowed on the beach and we were able to walk for miles admiring the scenery. Short drives away are lots of other beautiful beaches equally welcoming to people and dogs. Worth a visit is the nearby Warkworth castle and the fishing village of Craster with its wonderful smoke house with an array of smoked sea food. Further afield is the Lovely Kielder Forest and reservoir which is a haven for walkers and cyclists. The biggest endorsement I can give is we would visit the cottage again. The cottage is an ideal base for those who want to get out and about but there are plenty of walks on hand if you don't want to travel around.

Alison grew up at Hemscott Hill Farm and works alongside her father on the farm. Alison manages the cottage, glamping and wedding side of the business as well as running the Alpaca Walks that are available to guests.

Why they chose this property

Poppy Cottage is one of the original farm cottage that was lived in by Alison's grandad, called Poppy by all of the children, hence the name.

We refurbished it throughout in 2013 and started letting it as a holiday cottage.

What makes this property unique

Staying at Poppy Cottage means you can have a holiday near a beautiful beach and also benefit from being on a working farm.
