About this property

The sea at your doorstep - Santa Margherita Ligure ( Portofino )

*The House*

The flat is charming, large and very bright. Sunrise shines through the seaside view windows of the master bedroom and of the living room in the morning. Afternoons are pleasantly cool.

A wide living room facing the sea with direct access to the terrace, an extremely well equipped kitchen, balconies facing east and west, two bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms. One master bedroom with direct access to the sea terrace and a twin room facing a green yard with a balcony too.

*Position*

The view from the balcony is just magic. It is calm and refreshing in warm summer days when the sun shines over the sea just a few meter away, and the crystal-clear water reflects countless Caribbean shades of blue. It is romantic and soothing in winter days when the roaring sea takes on shades of gray and plum and the breeze washes the shore and moves the leaves of the green tree between the building and beach, only reminder of the lush vegetation of warmer months. And finally it is joyful and merry in spring, when the tree is filled with small birds nests, chirping musically at sunrise and coming from time to time to feed their chicks on the corner of the main balcony.

Given the proximity to the shore you will hear the lulling sound of the waves crashing during fresh spring nights, in busier summer days (mid July to end of August) the beaches are quite busy and the joyous holiday chit chat might occasionally keep you company. On busy Saturday nights around dinner time you might hear some cars and mopeds of couples heading to their date nights. A word of caution for light sleepers: on Saturday nights during July and August there is a beach club offering dance nights about 800 meters away, if you sleep in the master bedroom with open windows the background noise of the music playing can be heard until past midnight. If you have trouble sleeping unless there is complete silence please be aware that you might want to consider whether this would be an issue.

This is the house that my grandfather left me, a great lover of the sea and sailing. I love my flat but living abroad most of the time I manage to spend here less time than I wished to, and it would be a pity for such beauty go unshared.

Next-door to Grand Hotel Miramare it is just like your own suite facing the sea. The flat is on the second floor, with a small but perfectly working elevator. A wide living room facing the sea with direct access to the terrace, an extremely well equipped kitchen, balconies facing east and west, two bedrooms - One master bedroom with a double bed facing the sea with direct access to the terrace and an en suite bathroom and a twin room facing a green yard also with a balcony and en-suite bathroom. A daily toilet with shower, that's the third bathroom, will be at your disposal.

Wi-Fi: unlimited free optic fiber

*Important note*

The entire house is at your exclusive disposal, although the booking for the first 2 guests applies to one bedroom only of your choice, unless otherwise specified.
I'm always available throughout the stay for any query or assistance that might be needed to the guests.

*Additional infos*
If you wish for added service, my dear Stefania - who has been taking care of our home for years - could be there, sleeping in the maid's quarter by the kitchen, efficient and discreet to take care of cleaning and cooking at an extra cost of 150 euro day.

The property is 20 minutes walking distance from Santa Margherita Ligure train station, and only 5 min away by bus. The bus runs every 30 minutes from the station.
This is the same line bringing you from home to the nearby Portofino in 15 minutes, if you wished so.

Terrible Start to Our Trip
Renter beware! Yes, this property has "views of the sea at your doorstep", but please heed the caution of weary travelers that had to move to a hotel within an hour of being there. We were in Italy with our 18 year old daughter to drop her off for a semester in Italy. She was so excited to be in Italy, until we walked into this apartment. The look of disappointment on my daughter’s face was not good. When we arrived the housekeeper met us, once inside, she showed us around, and she commented that the smell of cleaning solution would soon wear off, but it only got worse. The full-sized bed was hard as a rock, and the towels were old, mismatched, and threadbare, linens were old and worn, she pointed out several 'broken' things (bidet, a nightstand) and cautioned us about breaking anything, and even pulled out a broken wine glass from a hidden cupboard and announced that it was extremely valuable, and should we break a glass it would be 150 EU. She also commanded that each day we were to water the plants on the front and back terraces and painstakingly explained how it should be done. As the 'tour' dragged on, the stench got worse. I suspect the aroma of the cleanser was wearing off. After the housekeeper left, the odor continued to get worse, and so did the look on my daughter’s face. No matter the source it was unacceptable and appeared to be contained to the apartment. The last thing we wanted to do after a 9 hour flight and a 2 hour drive was to find another place to stay, but we couldn’t stay with that odor. For the price we expected a beautiful, clean, and luxurious apartment. Needless to say this was a failure. We communicated the issues to the housekeeper and owner, and they responded by insulting me. We simply wanted a nice place to rest and sleep in a clean place. Fortunately, we found a hotel five star hotel down the street for about the same money, even though we needed 2 rooms. My daughter’s smile came back.

Best View Imaginable!
My husband and I spent a week in this lovely spot. I can’t say enough nice things about the unit. It’s beautiful, roomy, and well appointed. The view is incredible. We spent hours everyday on the deck taking it all in. Silvia, the manager, was so accommodating and gave us a warm welcome and orientation. If you get a chance, treat yourself and stay here. You won’t regret it!
