Defford is a village on the edge of Bredon Hill and it’s renowned for its agriculture, specialising in asparagus and fruit. The village is situated off a main road, equidistant to Pershore and Upton-upon-Severn by about three miles. Both small towns are very popular with tourists and have a holiday atmosphere, with a range of activities, including a cinema, art gallery, theatre, boat trips and a range of good quality restaurants.

Coach House Barn is located within the walled garden of one of the Defford village’s Georgian historic buildings. The garden has been designed with attention to detail with box hedging and espalier apple trees. The sunny private courtyard has an abundance of planting ranging from Olive trees to Japanese Acers, suitable for relaxing and alfresco dining. There is outdoor seating and a parasol in the summer. The bins to the property are housed behind the gate and are out of sight.

Defford is well situated centrally in the country, and for visitors to the area traveling by car; it is just ten minutes journey time off the M5.

70th birthday celebrations at Coach House Barn
Coach House Barn was the perfect accommodation for my dad’s 70th birthday celebrations (4 adults and 2 young children). The barn is beautifully decorated, spotless and well equipped - great kitchen facilities and all the necessary cleaning bits, plenty of toiletries, comfy beds, blankets, books, board games, TV, dvds etc etc. Lisa & Nick were excellent hosts, greeting us on arrival and welcoming us with a food & drink hamper. A really lovely touch. Lisa was brilliant on the lead up to our stay, always quick to respond and happy to help with recommendations & requests. She was so accommodating when I asked for early check in. We would love to return one day as we had such a brilliant time. Thank you.

About the host

Hosted by Lisa S

Host profile image
I love hosting Coach House Barn and have enjoyed meeting the many different guests over the years. I am an experienced host and run the Barn form my house next door as well as working as an artist and writer from my studio. I am at hand to answer any questions and have designed the space for the guests feel private but secure.

Why they chose this property

Coach House Barn is well situated and easily accessible from major motorway networks. The local towns are Pershore and Upton on Seven and have a lot going on in terms of art, music and culture. There is a local pub The Defford Arms serving traditional food and five minutes drive away the village of Birlingham has The Swan pub serving excellent food. There are many other restaurants and pubs in the area as well as beautiful walks. Defford is in between Bredon Hill and The Malverns, which make excellent days out. Slightly further afield and easily reached within 30 mins is the Cotswolds.

What makes this property unique

My property has a unique background relating to the history of the village. It has been architect designed with attention to detail, retaining the historical character whilst creating a contemporary space. As owners of the property we live in the adjoining house, so we are mindful to create privacy for our guests whilst being at hand if required. Whilst the barn is cosy, visitors have been surprised by the spaciousness of the interior and privacy this allows. The three separate sleeping areas, have their own walk in shower and equipped bathroom. The bigger upstairs bedroom is a suite with a small sofa, dressing table and double wardrobe. The space suits families and friends meeting up. There are five beds, of which two are doubles, over four separate bedrooms. As well as being suitable for seven individuals one baby in a cot can be accommodated.
