Higher Farm is located just 6 miles from the New Forest National Park in the quiet, picturesque village of Martin within a conservation area and on the edge of Martin Down National Nature Reserve. These two single-storey barn conversions, adjoining one another, were formerly the saddle room and stables for the small farm and have been transformed into very comfortable, tastefully furnished and immaculately presented holiday accommodation with a contemporary, light and airy feel. On the farm guests are welcome to walk up and see the animals, which including chickens, horses and ponies and a small flock of sheep grazing in the fields. Each property has a personal sitting out area at the front, in addition to tables and chairs on the orchard. There is also a bicycle store, barbecue and croquet set. The village of Martin is set in the Cranborne Chase and West Wilshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and offers excellent scenic walks and cycle rides from the farm. The village has its own small community-run shop which opens twice a day on week days (9am-11am and 5pm-6pm) and once in the morning on Saturdays (9am-12.30pm) as well as an historic Norman church. The medieval city of Salisbury, 8 miles, has its famous cathedral spire and close, individual shops, pubs and restaurants, a theatre and a cinema which is housed in the old wool market, offers a unique cinema experience. The New Forest National Park boundary is a picturesque drive of around 6 miles and Godshill always has lots of New Forest ponies and cattle to enjoy. Fordingbridge is known for its famous medieval stone bridge with its fine arches; it boasts plenty of shops, pubs and cafés and there are excellent walks along the river. Within easy driving distance are the world heritage sites at Stonehenge and Dorset’s stunning Jurassic Coast including Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, Longleat, Marwell Zoo, Paultons Park, Peppa Pig World, Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard including the Marie Rose and HMS Victory. Wonderful sandy beaches are to be found at Bournemouth, Studland and Mudeford. Small shop (limited opening times) in village, shop 6 miles, pub 3 miles.

Idyllic stay
The property is stunning. In a lovely village quiet and peaceful. The host family are amazing nothing was too much trouble and as animal lovers on a small farm was even better.

A great place to stay.
A great place to stay. After booking I was worried it might be too small or there may have been photography tricks but no this is a great place to stay. The bed is a good size the sofa is super comfy and the owners were very friendly and even left out some mince pies and presseco when we arrived which was a very nice touch. As other reviews have mentioned the only slight critique I would have is that the shower could do with a curtain as it’s a very powerful shower head and can end up with a wet bathroom floor if not careful. All and All I’d give this place 10/10 it was a really nice relaxing stay. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Stayed at the Saddle Room for a 7-night getaway with my partner.
Stayed at the Saddle Room for a 7-night getaway with my partner. Quiet location, off gated driveway, next to the owners’ property. Extremely clean on arrival, with milk and homemade shortbread kindly provided by the owners. The adjoining property was occupied, but this did not affect our stay in any way - the wall insulation was very good. Village has a community-run shop, but nearest sizeable supermarket was about 30 mins away. Very convenient for visiting nearby Salisbury and Bournemouth. Cottage was very well equipped and bed extremely comfortable (we enjoyed 7 very good nights!), but there were a few problems with the oven/hob. The oven didn’t appear to turn on and there were no instructions provided, and one of the hobs was faulty (wouldn’t turn off unless appliance power was cut). Shower pressure was great, but glass panel was inadequate for preventing some flooding of the bathroom. Overall, these were minor issues which wouldn’t in any way stop us from thoroughly recommending the Saddle Room. We thank the owners for a brilliant October getaway!
