Chawton is also nearby, home to Jane Austen’s House Museum, where she wrote a number of her great works. Visit the Gilbert White Museum, and slightly further, Portsmouth with its historic dockyard, Spinnaker Tower, the D-Day and Royal Marines museums, Gunwharf Quays, various museums, art and entertainments, waterside dining and shopping outlets, is about a 50-minute drive.
