Temenos is a beautiful sunlight-filled 2,000 square foot home on the North Fork of the New River, in Crumpler, just north of Jefferson. In Greek, Temenos means “a quiet place” and “a sanctuary,” and is the perfect name for this lovely retreat on a bold stretch of the river.

Stroll to the river, where steps make it easy to get in the river to soak your feet in the crystal clear waters of the New, and you'll find your city stress disappears with each breath of crisp mountain air. The hammock may draw you in before you get a chance to unpack – stretch out and listen to the moving water and the birds, the best sounds in nature.

At this relaxing mountain house you'll enjoy the reflected light gleaming on the hardwood floors. On the first floor you'll find it a pleasure to prepare meals in the fully stocked kitchen, which includes a food processor, a slow cooker and on the porch there's a gas grill.

After a day of exploring, relax in the evening in front of the wood burning fireplace in the living room with a movie or your favorite show on the smart TV. Or gather your gang around the table and choose from one of the many games at the house.

The master bedroom is on the main floor, and offers a comfy king size bed to sink into for restorative sleep. The master has an en suite bath with tub/shower combo. Just down the hall another bedroom offers a queen bed, as well as a third bedroom with twin beds. If you need overflow sleeping space, you'll find a futon in the office, and daybed downstairs. If you are traveling with a baby, you'll be glad not to have to drag your pack n' play, baby tub, high chair and a sound machine, as the thoughtful owners have provided these.

For more play options, you've got a ping pong table downstairs, along with another bathroom (and the daybed). Want to keep up with your workouts? Downstairs you'll also find a treadmill (for adults only, please).

Temenos is about 15 minutes north of Jefferson, 15 minutes from Jefferson. From this location, you are perfectly situated to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Ashe County. Crumpler, with its undulating hills and long vistas makes the Sunday drive something you can enjoy every day of the week.

Even better, Temenos is a beautiful 30 minute drive to Grayson Highlands State Park, a gorgeous park with even more stunning views, and trails on open pastures home to wild ponies. You'll find a preserved cabins and an informative visitor's center about the history of the area.

Much closer to the cabin is the New River State Park with a visitor's center providing an education on the life of the New River.

West Jefferson offers an ever growing selection of restaurants, shops, antiques and galleries. Visit on the second Friday of every month from June to October and catch the monthly gallery crawl. Every Saturday from May to October (and then open again for the holidays), the Farmers Market provides an eclectic mix from vegetables to plants to hand-made jewelry to scarves, photography and birdhouses. Make sure you stop at the Visitor's Center to find out about the festivals unique to our county.

While there's a lot to do an explore, you might find relaxing at Temenos is just what the doctor ordered for your vacation! From this home, you can do it all, or do nothing. It's your choice!

There are external cameras monitoring the public areas outside of the house.

Dogs Welcome! Must be well behaved, leash/crate trained, 2 years or older and 45lbs or less. $50 / per pet. 2 dog limit.

Quality home, pictures don't do it justice
This a beautiful home with quality furniture and fittings. Most of the furniture through out is solid wood. The couch in front of the fire is comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is decked out with everything you can think of. There are even a few kids plates and cups. I would definitely head to the house to see what's there before buying spices/salt/oil etc. This is one of the very few places I've stayed where it's better quality, more spacious and more comfortable than what I expected from the photos.

Relax recharge on the river
From my 92 year old dad to my 4 year old grandson we all greatly enjoyed the house and the large yard. Plenty of games/toys/puzzles/pingpong for all to enjoy. River provides the perfect backdrop of nature's music as nd th red opportunity of canoes and kayaks . Some of neighbors did get a little excited when our dog barked

Absolutely perfect!
This property is even better than it looks in the listing. We came with my husband, 2 year old son, my parents, and their dog. There was plenty of space for us and all the amenities we needed. There were plenty of toys and books for my little one, as well as a swing and of course the river to play by. We had an amazing time!
