About this property

New Listing! Private retreat for nature lovers-minutes from town and restaurants

Welcome to Westmoreland Retreat.
When you pull in the long winding laneway, you can't believe how beautiful this place is. An historical log home greets you, nestled on 100 acres of complete privacy. The 10-foot antique harvest table accommodates your gathering and the open concept living room boasts a wood stove for a crackling fire and a separate television/sitting area. There is also a regularly-tuned piano for any musical talents in your group. This part of Ontario is famous for stargazing. Sit at the bonfire on warm summer nights and watch the stars. Go for a long walk along the hedge row and into the forest beyond. Connect with nature or stay inside with the heat pump-generated air conditioning. Beautiful sunsets and incredible bird population due to the wetland nearby. Your stay will be restorative! Perfect for a family get away or as an artists' retreat. Draw inspiration from the nature that surrounds you. Set up your easel in the orchard or write your novel in the study, overlooking the west field. Visit the quaint village of Neustadt nearby for a tour of the old caverns in the local brewery, and shop the gift shops. Great restaurants and road trips nearby. You will love this place!

About the host

Hi, we are Robert and Elizabeth, and we are so excited to share this beautiful property with you!
Our log home was built in 1856 by the Mulvihill family and we are honoured to be stewards of this home and the land it sits on.
We are nature lovers and we respect the varied wildlife that live on the property, from birds to bugs. No sprays, and purely organic.
We have a portion of the fields rented out to a local farmer for hay (no chemical pesticides, GMO, etc.) so depending on when you come, there could be huge round bales in the fields awaiting pick up. Quite beautiful to see.
We know you will love it here and we look forward to hosting you.

Why they chose this property

Westmoreland is a little slice of heaven. If you need to reconnect to nature, and slow life down, this is the place for you. Surrounded by beauty everywhere you look, and completely private; re-connect with yourself and the ones you love. Explore the spacious property with trails and secret spots (there is a bench overlooking the wetland behind the bank barn...can you find it? ). Stroll through the heritage apple orchard behind the house. Catch some sunshine on the back deck or settle in with a good book on the front porch.
A great place for the children (and adults) to "un-plug" and safely explore. This would be a great spot to settle in and write your novel...or set up your easel in the orchard and paint.

What makes this property unique

Re-connection to the land. Relax and breathe.
Close to the famous historical Neustadt Springs Brewery and the lovely French-inspired gift shop Atelier 522 in the village of Neustadt where you can browse little storefronts and grab a bite, is less than a 10-minute country drive away.
Information on road trips to the beach and things to do should you wish to get out, will be provided.
IF YOU DO NOT LIKE NATURE, this place is not for you. At Westmoreland, we protect nature organically and there is no hunting or intentional harming of the local wildlife permitted. Our property boasts a healthy abundance of wildlife including birds, garter snakes, garden toads, and so on. As a country property, you must also be prepared for flies and mosquitoes (but these you are permitted to dispatch at will, lol!).
