About this property

The Overflow Blue Mountains

About:
The Overflow is a unique and beautiful retreat located in the Kanimbla Valley, surrounded by the stunning cliffs of the Blue Mountains and rolling farmland hills. This new eco-friendly accommodation has been designed to help you unwind and reconnect with nature. Large windows provide plenty of natural light and warmth and showcase the beautiful scenery. Alongside the accommodation is an original 1950s shearing shed and yards, which have been lovingly restored to provide a wonderful place for you to explore and relax.
The Neighbourhood:
Explore the local neighbourhood right at your doorstep! Enjoy nearby gems like Mayfield Gardens Oberon (61km drive) and Jenolan Caves (69km scenic drive). Savour a rural pub lunch experience at Hampton Pub or immerse yourself in the beauty of Hartvale Gardens, the Lavender farm and Wild Meadows during Open Garden events. Discover the remnants of Blast Furnace Park Lithgow and historical treasures at Eskbank House and Museum. Enjoy great views from Hassan Walls Lookout and cool off at Hyde Park Reserve's refreshing water hole. Indulge in a delightful culinary experience at Victoria Tea Rooms and catch a film at Mount Vic Flicks, just a short 13-minute drive away. For a truly relaxing retreat, don't miss the Japanese Bath House nestled by the picturesque Lake Lyell. Plan as some of these attractions require booking in advance.
The space:
The main space of the house is bright and open, perfect for couples or families to spend time together. You can cook a meal in the kitchen, play games at the dining table, watch Netflix on the couch, cozy up to the wood-burning fireplace in winter, or relax and take in the views from the window seat. The newly built elevated balcony is a great place to enjoy the sunset, with comfortable outdoor seating and a view of the escarpment. The outdoor covered patio has a dining table, BBQ area, and a nearby fire pit.
There are two bedrooms. The first has a queen-sized bed and a sofa that can be made into a king-single bed. The second bedroom has a king-sized bed that can also be made into two singles. There is a small double sofa bed in the living room. Both bathrooms each have a toilet and a walk-in shower. The main bathroom also features a stand-alone soaker tub with a beautiful view. There is a fully equipped gourmet kitchen and a laundry.
Outside, 25 acres are available for you to explore and enjoy. A designated path takes you on a 5-minute walk to The Point, where you can enjoy panoramic views of nature and watch the breathtaking sunset colours on the sandstone cliffs.
Access:
Guests can access and exclusively use the entire accommodation and shearing shed. The Overflow is 18 minutes from Blackheath and 30 minutes from Katoomba via sealed roads. The driveway is suitable for 2-wheel drive cars, and guests can park directly behind the building.
Other things to note:
The house is solar-passive and double-glazed, making it very comfortable for most of the year without the need for air conditioning or heating. There are large fly-screened windows to catch the cross breezes and a slow-combustion wood fire for supplemental heating in the winter, with firewood provided. The property has a dam (open water source) that is not fenced and there are no barriers between you, the wildlife and the shearing shed - so small children must be supervised at all times. There are new plantings in the garden, so please treat them with love. A minimum stay of 5 nights is required from December 25th to January 1st, 4 nights during Easter, and 3 nights during long weekends. The minimum stay is 2 nights at all other times.

Please note that this is a rural escape, surrounded by pastureland and Australian bush. You may encounter insects and other animals during your stay, which is all a natural part of the Australian bush experience. We look forward to welcoming you to this little piece of paradise in the Blue Mountains.

About the host

Hosted by Sasha Nieuwboer

Host profile image
Hello, I'm Sasha, and I recently made a significant move from the Northern Beaches of Sydney to the mountains, a true transition from sea to tree. Formerly, I owned a bustling café on the beaches, but now, I find myself immersed in a completely different lifestyle. I work with cattle on a sprawling 1100-acre property, contributing to tasks such as maintaining fencing and groundskeeper and working with cattle and I love it!

Why they chose this property

I can never get enough of the Kanimbla Valley. Looking back up at the sandstone cliffs and watching the weather roll past is a mesmerizing experience. Every day presents a different backdrop of colours and natural beauty, and I enjoy observing how the changing seasons impact the view of the landscape.

What makes this property unique

Its uniqueness lies in the seamless blending of something old with something new! The property flows beautifully and is surrounded by the shearing shed and old sheep yards, which provide a glimpse into the industry that once thrived here. Despite having modern facilities for guests to enjoy, the area retains a magical feel, thanks to its spectacular surroundings.
