Great hotel, a little way out of the city

Fantastic staff and service. A little way out of London city though, however on weekdays the hotel will bus you to the underground for free or you can catch a mini cab there for 5 pound. Overall really good, rooms clean, give good soaps, and the beds are nice and soft.

During our 5 night stay we were unable to have hot showers on 3 occasions. As we were in London for a couple of special functions we couldn't wait about for water to heat or change our showering times. There seemed to be a wedding function there on the weekend so I'm guessing the bridal party & guests used all the hot water. Also on the Saturday night of the wedding the noise in room opposite us and in corridor was out of control after hours. I can't believe the staff didn't hear this & shut them down. Everyone we've told about this says we should have asked for the rate for a room with no showers and loud noise options. We also had a problem with the door key card. Every single time except once we had to go back down stairs to reception to have the card re scanned. Every time they asked did we have the card in wallet with credit cards, we told them no each time as we are fully aware that can cause a problem. We didn't plan to say anything but on checkout they asked did we enjoy our stay so my husband briefly & politely mentioned the hot water & noise and they couldn't have cared less. Why ask? We've stayed there before as our family live nearby and we constantly recommend Hendon Hall but sadly never again.

Wanted to move in!!!!

This venue was nothing short of exceptional! The staff are welcoming, conversational, friendly, helpful beyond words and your pleasant stay is very important to them. Their hotel shuttle can collect you from the tube/metro train station at Hendon so it is a smooth arrival and departure. The English gardens are so very beautiful and cared for! The rooms are so elegant, clean and stunningly old English decor and we felt so relaxed from our arrival moment and even extended our visit and changed our trip so we could stay one more night possible!!!

Living in the past

I arrived on a Friday and found for the toilet to work you had to flush it 3 or 4 times they couldn't fix it until the Monday. The exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't work. I complained I couldn't get the A/conditioning to work, they said it would months before it worked in any of the rooms. You didn't need a wake up call as the first person to leave their accommodation when their front door shut your room liberated the same when the last person came home. I heard the people in the room next door every time they used the toilet and shower and could hear them talk in bed. The floor creaked as you walked on it. Breakfast started at 7.30am however if you came before 8.00am you didn't get bac on or eggs, one morning they forgot to bake the croissants. At the bar I bought lemon, lime and bitters and was charged 4 pound 20 pence. This place says London as it's location don't be fooled its about 3 stations from the end of the line and the hotel is a good 20 minute walk to the station. The don't have a courtesy car as they stated they didn't have a driver. The place is overpriced and no discount for the things that don't work I wouldn't staynthere again even if it was for free.

Great choice for the northern suburbs

My wife and I stayed at the Hendon Hall for 7 nights in August 2012. Let me preface this review by pointing out that the hotel is located in suburban Hendon and there is VERY little around here to see and do. The only reason we chose this hotel is that my wife's grandmother lives right next door it. The hotel was charming and despite our room being on the small side, it was very tastefully appointed and in top condition (which is all the more impressive considering how long the hotel has been around). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The quality of the food in the hotel's restaurant is wonderful and I definitely recommend having a meal there. My only complaint is that the housekeeping was fairly average, they did not replace used glasses, sheets, etc for the duration of our stay. Highly recommended for those visiting Hendon/Hampstead/Golder's Green...

Read the reviews after I booked which is unusual, found out the hotel was closing in Dec so feared the worse. Don't listen to the poor reviews about staff and facilities, it was excellent. Cheap for the area, free parking (unlike the nearby Holiday Inn £12!!) and the bed was so comfy.

Unfortunately, this unique partly nationally registered property has been sold for development. So staff is leaving, maintenance deferred, and amenities ( no evening meals in dining room, reduced breakfast options) are being reduced. A shame that the unlisted wings are to be torn down and replaced by new construction to convert the site to an aging care facility. We need more care options, although it's too bad this old gem will be sacrificed.

Lovely hotel but noisy room

The hotel, the room, the service and the food was very good. However, we were staying in Room 224 which was right next to the staff room and stairs. This meant it was very noisy, with the door banging and the staff walking up the stairs a lot. As a result we didn’t get much sleep at all. This was our 4th stay there, and it won’t put us off, but we will in the future specifically refuse room 224.

Good for our needs.

Both the hotel and room was pleasing on first review. Plus points, comfy bed and pretty quiet given the proximity to the A41. Breakfast was plentiful and good. Negative points, mirror positioned poorly above table so hard for my lady to use when getting ready (too high), dirty, rusty bin in the bathroom and the shower was useless. Had to pose like Spider-Man and almost press myself against the wall to enable the water to hit my body. No pressure at all!! Reception staff seemed unconcerned when I mentioned it upon checking out.
