About Sherrie Aftanas
I am a community health care worker. I grew up in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. I have lived at this address for 5 years.
Why Sherrie Aftanas chose Departure Bay
I bought this property because I love gardening and the big back yard is really quite lovely. I also have a very nice view of Departure Bay from my deck and from the large patio below. The dogwood tree, quince tree and forsythia bush have such beautiful blooms in the spring, from rich yellow, soft cream and beautiful fuschia. Then there is the rhododrendrum blooms, a magnificent red and pink and purple. The beach is just down the street, new lovely coffee shop across from the beach and liquor store, close proximity to the BC Ferries, golf course, and of course shopping amenities.
What makes this House unique
I am a short 5 blocks from the beach. The city has just finished building a brand new walk way along the beach with beautiful exposed aggregate tables/seating, and there is a new lovely coffee shop with inside/outside seating, right across the street from the beach. If you are lucky enough to be at the beach when the whales come through it is an incredible sight. There are hiking trails just a few minutes down the road and of course a beautiful 50 minute walk around Westwood Lake, as well as swimming at the lake. There are many very nice restaurants and shops within a 10 to 15 minute drive either south or north Nanaimo. We have silly boat races in the downtown harbour, as well as bathtub weekend. The Nanaimo Symphony plays during the summer at the outside pavilion. You can walk along the downtown waterfront, check out the little shops, have ice-cream or special coffee or take the little ferry to Protection Island and have supper at the Dingy Dock pub and enjoy the live entertainment. This is just a few of the many activities that can be enjoyed in Nanaimo.
