Otago Uni trip

Just a short walk to Otago University, which was my main criteria for booking. All the basics provided in the room - tea/coffee/milk/water/ shampoo, but no shower gel. Had to ask for batteries for the TV remote. Clean room, friendly service, good breakfast, and would stay again.

Nice Stay

My stay at Cargills was nice, the room was small but tidy and cosy. I could not seem to locate a hair dryer in my room however this would not stop me from booking again.

Close to the shopping and sights.

We had a fantastic time. We loved the centre garden area. What a gorgeous spot for relaxing in. The restaurant was awesome. Compliments to the chef and staff. They made you feel really welcome. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Once again compliments to the staff. The site of the complex is an easy walk to most places which is really convenient. We had a fantastic time in Dunedin to watch our daughter playing at the Netball Stadium. Thank you one and all for a very pleasant stay

A Pleasureable Hotel

Our stay at this hotel was a delight from check-in until check-out. The room overlooked a leafy courtyard, was quiet, and clean. The amenities were lovely, and the staff was exceptional. The pillows were a bit hard though. Otherwise, we loved it.

Good value

I have no major complaints. Staff at Cargills were friendly and helpful, my room was clean, warm, quiet and comfortable, and the courtyard garden is very nice. The hotel is a fair walk from the city centre, and located in a less-than-desirable student quarter of town, but a small grocery store across the street was a nice surprise. Though the gym is a few minutes' walk away, the trade-off is that it is also much better appointed than most gyms available in other hotels onsite. I didn't sample the onsite restaurant, owing to dining options available elsewhere in the city. Bar drinks were reasonably priced. My only real complaint centers on the wifi service. While reasonably priced for per-hour usage, and quite fast, I (and others who require internet access for work purposes, I'm sure) would have preferred a data-charge option like that offered elsewhere in New Zealand (i.e. Cafenet). Moreover, unlike other wifi services I've used, this one continues to charge even after the internet browser is closed (with no warning of this), and must be logged off each time. On one occasion, this entailed losing 10 hours of internet credit overnight (a Cargills staff member was kind enough to give me 4 hours of credit for free); on a subsequent occasion it required 10 minutes of continuous effort to get the logoff screen to load! - minutes, needless to say, for which I was charged. My stay was comfortable and enjoyable overall, and I'd recommend Cargills for the money-conscious traveler.

Sleepless in Dunedin

This is quite a tricky one. The hotel was actually fine in itself, and we generally found the staff helpful and polite. The room was clean and modern, although the bed was a bit like sleeping on a blancmange. The issue we had was with other guests. Shortly before we went for dinner a maori rugby team arrived, and it seemed that they had had a good match. The celebrations were well in hand. The lady that served our dinner told us that they had already had four complaints from other guests about their rowdy behaviour. This rowdiness continued all night. They had foot races up and down the passage outside our room (until 3 a.m.) and spent the whole night shouting to each other between rooms. We had very little sleep. In the morning the receptionist denied any knowledge of their poor behaviour, which was frankly ridiculous as we (and other hotel guests we had spoken to) had complained throughout the night. The hotel management clearly lacked the resolve to confront the team's management and ask them to consider other guests, as they carried on completely unchecked. The maori lads themselves were obviously in very high spirits and weren't outright obnoxious (although some of the language was a bit ripe), but they, their team management and most particularly the hotel's management should have told them to shut up and let others sleep. The last comment we heard from one of the team as they left the hotel at about 7 a.m. was "I'll bet this lot will be glad to see the back of us, eh?". Pretty much sums it up really. I would definitely not stay here for the World Cup unless they radically improve security on-site, especially if you want any sleep (but then again it might suit some fans perfectly!).

Quality Hotel Cargills

Service was excellent, could not fault them. My only issue was the noise in the room. We were in a downstairs unit, and we could hear the guests above walking around (squeeky floor-boards). Apart from this a very comfortable stay with good service.

Cargill Hotel

This Hotel is well located and the staff were very friendly but the rooms are extermely noisy. The walls are very thin and you can hear people outside in the court yard . You can hear people going up and down the stairs which creak. Overall was not impressed as very little sleep was managed when we stayed there
