Información de la propiedad

Country Roads Take Me Home.

The Chimneys…. Ideal for the nature lover, hiker and adventure seeking individual looking for a truly rustic getaway. Find tranquility in this historic authentic 1800s rustic cabin. It is nestled on 5 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains where the silence allows you to hear the chattering of the nearby brook. Delight in the quirkiness of the home's crooked floors and hand made finishes.
You will ideally know how to light a wood burning stove. Fire pit available unless burn ban in place.

This house is an 1800s cabin in the middle of a wooded, remote and wild area. Please keep in mind that this area is home to plenty of wildlife including venomous snakes that live in the tall grasses. We welcome your dogs, but for their sake don’t allow them to investigate without considering the possibility that they may come across a copperhead or a rattle snake.
The cabin has basic updates but remains an 1800s cabin and is ideal for the nature lover and adventurous soul.

We are located in the migratory path of many different birds. I spent two weeks at the cabin in early May and I recorded over 12 different varieties with my app in a matter of seconds. The humming birds also like to visit (food for humming birds:1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Boil water add sugar until dissolved. Allow to cool down. Rinse feeder well before adding new food. )

It's a hiker's paradise and you can easily access the AT from The Crabtree Falls hike. I hear the area is a great place to train for cross country runners. The area hosts various national competitions annually.

Nelson county offers three river options for kayaking, canoeing or tubing with different rapid categories.
Fishing is also popular in the county.

Due to the location of the cabin it's inevitable that spiders, mosquitoes, mice, and tiny ring snakes etc can enter the cabin. We have monthly pest control in order to minimize the nuisance.

Please use the stacked wood for house heating purposes only. Feel free to gather wood from around the property for the fire pit or bring your own.
The heat: There is electric baseboard heat, but we prefer our guests minimize the use of the baseboard and instead make use of our other heating options. There is a very nice pellet stove that lights with the push of a button. There is a small heater in the bathroom. There is a fireplace in the living room and a wood burning stove in the kitchen. The wood burning stove in the kitchen heats the house nicely. It's a good idea to know how to light a fire should you lose power.

The AC: there is a portable standing ac unit in the living room, a nice sized fan , and window units in the bedrooms.

You will need to WRITE down the code for the lockbox as you will have no wifi on the mountain. We have removed the wifi password but the signal outside is very weak.
You have access to everything except for two spaces in the kitchen, which have padlocks on them. Please do not enter the barns ( safety reasons).

You should jot down the access info as you will lose reception when you reach the top of the mountain. You will be at 3000 feet elevation within an area that is a natural habitat to local wildlife. Keep all food stored away. I use the microwave for food that cannot go in the fridge. There is a an unoccupied camper on the property. Please do not enter.
In the colder months, it is important to know how to light a fire.

A dream cabin stay

This cabin was really lovely. So much character and history surrounded by nature. The owner was very responsive and happy to help with any questions. We really loved our stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a quiet getaway

I am originally from Spain, but have lived in New York most of my adult life. The cabin is our retirement home. I love to travel, hike, and horses. I love sharing the cabin with people who enjoy being close to nature and are looking for an opportunity to disconnect from the stress of everyday life.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

This is a remote place buried deep in the woods down a dirt road. It is ideal for the nature loving individual looking to disconnect. The cabin is surrounded by forest and is in the migratory path of many birds.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

It’s an 1800s log chinked cabin that remains much the way it was built. It is truly rustic. While it has a modern kitchen and other modern conveniences, the cabin remains much the way it was when it was first built. It is ideal for the person looking to keep the wood burning stove going and curling up with a good book. We are about 40 minutes from two beautiful town: Staunton and Lexington.
