I fell in love with Fernie the first time I came here. The hill, the people, the laid back atmosphere, the incredible champagne powder and, best of all, with Fernie being removed from the "beaten path" of massive crowds at the hills around Calgary.....no lift lines!
I used to come down here so much that the cost of cheap hotels and eating out was pretty much equal to what the mortgage would be on this condo.....so purchasing it was an easy decision. And it provided the bonus of being on-hill. Not having to get in or out of your vehicle, to get to and from the hill, is such a huge advantage to enjoying your day! I never realized what a pain it was driving, parking, brushing off the car and having to gear up/de-gear outside.......until I didn't have to do it anymore!
Another reason I chose this condo is the hot tub's! Getting off the hill for the day and into a hot tub 5 minutes later is such a bonus! If you get off the hill by 3:15 and head straight for the hot tubs you usually get them all to yourself until around 4:30. And since they change the water every morning in these tubs during ski season, not only do you get the tub to yourself but you get to enjoy freshly changed water as well!
I also chose this unit because of its ground floor location right next to a covered side entrance to the Lodge.
- Easy/fast/safe emergency fire egress -. Both the bedroom and living room windows are at ground level and have quick release pop out screens.
- Ease of loading everything in and out - I was coming back and forth from Calgary every week. Loading everything in and out is so much simpler, quicker and less of a chore with this unit.
I never rented this condo out, for over 20 years, as I needed it at my complete disposal. That way when the big dumps hit I would do midnight runs down from Calgary to be first chair in the mornings. But I spend over half my time in the Okanagan Valley now (a 9-10 hour drive) and don't get down here as much as I'd like to anymore.
