Richard and Penny were amazing hosts. The house was beautiful and it had everything we would have ever needed. The pool and hot tub were great! We had a delicious breakfast cooked for us by Richard one morning, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed! Highly recommend!

We booked this house to gather 5 siblings (9 people in total) from four different directions to celebrate my milestone birthday. Great location, lovely house, perfect.

Family get together

We had a wonderful weekend at River House. The location, accommodation and attention to detail are all fantastic. Penny was very efficient and helpful with arrangements and Richard was an excellent host during our stay. The position of the property in the valley really is idyllic and the new pool a great asset that we thoroughly enjoyed. We’d love to go back!

Beautiful Country Home

We had a wonderful time at River House. It is a gorgeous home thats been updated with all the mordern facilities you would need yet has kept all of its historic charm. Penny and Richard were very friendly and welcoming. It feels very secludued amongst beautiful countryside, we would love to go back in the summer months to make more use of the outside space.

Beautiful House and Location - Fantastic hosts

We had a fantastic time at Penny & Richards property. They were both so kind, helpful and accommodating pre trip and that continued this throughout. They were on hand with any questions and were such lovely and helpful hosts. The property is stunning and very spacious. There are multiple spacious communal areas and I feel like we managed to get the most out of all of them. Thank you again Penny & Richard all 16 of us had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend!

Amazing

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house. There were 10 of us and there was plenty of space to spread out. The house, grounds and surrounding area are wonderful. A perfect place to ‘escape’ to, yet with lots to do n the surrounding area. Our 3 and 5 yr olds adored exploring the grounds, swimming in the pool and feeding ‘Pecky’ the chicken. We were made to feel so welcome. Every query we had was answered immediately. Highly recommended.

50th wedding family party

We had wonderful comments from all our guests about the setting and the general ambiance of River House. The resident guests loved the layout and standard of the house. It was a hot weekend so we lived outside, sadly never using the beautiful lounge.But we all loved the house and garden. The hot tub and the swimming pool were greatly enjoyed by our own family.

Relaxing, refreshing getaway in English countryside!

Four of us met up for a writing retreat at this property outside of Bath and loved every minute of it. Richard and Penny were excellent hosts, and they went out of their way to make sure our time on the property was comfortable and easy. We enjoyed one night of Richard's catering so much that we added on more during our trip! Bath was very convenient, but the Friary property was secluded in the nearby countryside in a way that felt peaceful and private. The Riverside House itself has a large kitchen with every modern amenity while part of the house dates back several hundred years and adds historic charm in the lounge area. The gardens are amazing, and the pool is brand new. We can't say enough about our enjoyable time on this property! Thanks to Richard and Penny for a stay we would love to repeat.

A weekend away

Richard and Penny were welcoming, friendly and overall wonderful hosts to a such a beautiful property. 10 of us stayed for a weekend celebrating my partners 30th and I had planned to surprise her with a proposal. Richard and Penny were delighted to hear my intentions and supported me in every way possible to help make it as special as I needed it to be, going above and beyond what I had expected. From being lenient with check in and out times, allowing for decorations and even bringing our forgotten sunglasses to flourish after we had left (note from our image of Richard, bringing said glasses to our luncheon). The scenery and views, not to mention the weather, made it into a perfect weekend. I couldn’t thank you both more. A memory we will cherish forever.

My family and I have just had the pleasure and privilege of staying at Riverhouse, Freshford, Bath, for a week. We are a 3 generation family who traveled from different parts of USA to spend a week together for a family reunion, and to attend our niece’s wedding. My husband and I are both English, and I grew up on a farm near Bath, which is still in my family, however we’ve lived in America for many years.Riverhouse was perfect for our family of ten ranging in age from 7 to 78. The house is a beautiful, large, stone period home at the end of a long drive, in a private, peaceful, gorgeous country setting. The River Frome meanders through the valley at the bottom of the garden. The garden is large, and there are foot paths through lovely countryside which can easily be accessed and enjoyed. Cattle graze fields nearby, and hens freely range around the property. The house is attractively furnished and decorated, and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We were warmly greeted by Richard, who was very attentive to our every need, and checked in with us frequently. On our arrival, to welcome us Richard gave us a delicious carrot cake he’d made, and fresh flowers from the garden had been placed in the house for us to enjoy. The large swimming pool was enjoyed immensely, so too were the lawn games. We all thoroughly enjoyed our week, and can highly recommend Riverhouse. Thank you Richard and Penny for your professionalism and hospitality.

We had a gorgeous weekend, and couldn’t get over the beautiful scenery. We loved hanging out by the pool. Richard really looked after us, and cooked a delicious BBQ on Friday! And carrot cake to die for.Can’t recommend it enough :)

Fabulous weekend!

Penny and Richard provided us with wonderful weekend at this beautiful property! We had such a fabulous time and our hosts could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The catering provided was perfect and the whole group were incredibly impressed. The house, location and whole experience was top class. Everything was exactly what I had hoped for. Thank you!
