Matheran Bungalow, a Homestay

The only place in India where any vehicles aren't allowed-Matheran is a mountain getaway to awesome nature, rain-forest and breathtaking deep cliffs; about 90 Kms from the pandemonium that is Mumbai city. If you like crisp mountain air, a dense rain-forest, horses and long walks- all far away from urban cities, you will love Matheran nestled within the eco sensitive zone and heritage area.

Our Bungalow is off the main bazaar and a step away from Matheran railway station. We are in the village to experience bit of rural life and central to all the tourist spots, cliffs, points and the evergreen rain forest.

We have on offer 3 spacious rooms, each with a double bed, compact seat-out and washroom. Room 1 and 2 open in to a common varanda with compact dining table, fridge for your coolers and takes you to open to sky, approx 400 sqft front compound with a swing under guava tree shade, garden umbrella with chairs and a seat out. Room 2 opens in to Room 3, which is at lower level by 5 step. So, room 2 and 3, together, with access to varanda and front compound, are most convinient for family. Room 3 has an independent rear side entrance as well. Each Room has compact storage and seat-out. The photos are typical of the Rooms.

We don't provide TV inside your room to distract you from famous Matheran Outdoors. Due to low water pressure showers and geysers do not work on bathrooms and so, hot water is provided as you need during morning hours till 10am

The front compound is approx 600 sqft with a swing and seat-out. It is partly covered by the natural shade of a evergreen guava tree. The inside of varanda has a compact dining table, chairs and a working desk. The common varanda and compound gives ample space to you for celebrations in the Matheran Bungalow.

I live in Mumbai, visiting Matheran often to enjoy the outdoors and supervise the property. I have traveled across the world to over 50 countries and love to host Guests of all ages from different cultures. I am now retired and persuade my passion for Matheran and hosting.

Dependable Caretakers-Haresh and Ranjana look after the property, housekeeping and the guests; day to day, with discipline and under my guidance. They provide simple lunch, dinner, breakfast, snacks, hot/cold drinks and arrange for barbeque to make your evenings memorable, against orders. Outside eatables, bottled water etc can be arranged. Being resident of Matheran, Haresh provides all the local help. Their mobile contacts shall be provided on confirmation of the reservations.

Diwali-the festival of lights, Christmas, New Year and Republic Day; from October to January and the Summer; from April to June are the most sought after days in Matheran. Long weekends with local holidays, also tend to be rush time. Please do your booking well in advance to avoid surge pricing and last minute disappointment.

Monsoon is quite magical and mystical in Matheran with lot of travellers making it a favoured destination. Matheran is lush green all the way within clouds. So, come monsoon, come and enjoy a different Matheran ...
The Bungalow is in the Matheran village, close to bazaar and station. It's very conveniently located, central to all tourist spots, breathtaking cliffs, lake, green forests and ancient monument of Pisarnath Temple. A medical store is nearby for quick access. A stay within local community, looking up their lifestyle gives Guests a humbling experience.

It's recommended to take a local map and explore Matheran. Leisure walking, with pollution free mountain air, on dusty red pathways of Matheran and hi-quality time with loved ones during your stay in the Matheran Bungalow is very rewarding and enriching.

The Bazaar is in small stretches in clusters in Matheran, with variety of Indian cuisines and local toffees, leather footwear, article shops and souvenir shops with bargains and bargaining while shopping. Please do not forget to carry back, some special local dry fruit toffees for your loved ones, back home.

Matheran boasts of producing Jockeys, with horse riding being common sport and the tourists also take to riding through the dusty roads in forests. As there are no vehicles allowed in Matheran, live pollution free, only on fresh mountain breeze, whilst in Matheran.
