Hidden among the orchards of Limburg’s Haspengouw region, this restored Carmelite monastery near Sint-Truiden offers the kind of group stay that feels completely different from a typical countryside house. Sleeping up to 28 guests across 10 bedrooms, the property balances historic character with generous communal spaces that make reunions and long family weekends feel warm rather than formal.

The old monastic architecture still shapes the atmosphere throughout the house, from the peaceful lounges to the large dining hall where dinners naturally stretch late into the evening. During warmer months, most afternoons drift toward the terrace and orchard garden while evenings settle around the barbecue or games room filled with billiards, darts, and shuffleboard. The setting feels calm and atmospheric without becoming overly polished, especially with the church tower rising beside the surrounding fruit fields.

Sint-Truiden can be reached within roughly 11 minutes and is best explored slowly through its abbey tower, medieval squares, and café terraces around Grote Markt. The Sint-Agnes Beguinage lies nearby and remains one of Belgium’s quieter UNESCO-listed sites, while Reading Between the Lines, the famous see-through church installation in Borgloon, can be reached within approximately 15 minutes surrounded by orchards and cycling trails. During spring, the Haspengouw blossom routes become especially beautiful for cycling through apple and pear fields across the region.
