Beautiful Rural House in the Alt Pirineu Natural Park in the Unarre Valley

The 18th-century Carrera House spans 300 square meters across three floors and features a spacious loft that is every child’s dream. As soon as you step inside, you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time; its original spaces and materials invite you to imagine how our ancestors lived and some of the unique aspects of family life.

Pine and birch wood floors, original doors with unique details, stone walls, and an original beam structure welcome you and immerse you in a place you’ll never want to leave.

A truly family-friendly place to stay
On the first floor, in addition to “lo graner,” you’ll also find the entrance to the old wine cellar, the laundry room, and a fully equipped bathroom.

On the second floor, you’ll find: a dining room with a large table that seats 12, a living room with a big sofa and a smart TV, a spacious kitchen, and the jewel of the house, “El Foc a terra,” a large fireplace, restored and preserved exactly as it was, where meals were once cooked in large cauldrons and where family members gathered to chat and discuss the ups and downs of their daily lives around the fire.
The main bedrooms are located on the 3rd floor. The house has 4 bedrooms in total, each with its own unique features:
“Lo Paller” bedroom: with a double bed and enough space to add a crib.
“Lo Riu” bedroom: with a double bed and a single bed.
"Estels" room with a double bed.
"Rialles" room with five single beds (located in the loft).
At night, lying in bed, you can see the stars through this window 🙂
On this floor, there’s another full bathroom with a spacious shower.

As you’d expect from a family-friendly accommodation, the house is equipped with a high chair, a crib, toilet seat risers, and other amenities that allow families to enjoy their stay to the fullest and feel right at home.

The house also has an “Era,” a patio enclosed by an old wooden shutter, where you’ll find the barbecue area and swings so that both adults and children can enjoy an outdoor recreation space. Oh! And pets are sure to enjoy it too—they’re also welcome in this house.

Activities and excursions in the area
The Unarre River runs right next to the house. A very nice and easy outing to do with young hikers or while carrying them is to follow the path that leads you into the birch forest and takes you to the church of Sant Pere Daurós.

Other activities I’d like to recommend for families—and which are very close to the house— include, for example, a visit to the Ecomuseu de les Valls d’Àneu, a museum dedicated to the ethnography of the Valls d’Àneu and Pallars regions, where they offer dramatized tours and family-friendly activities at various locations throughout the area. A 15-minute drive away, you can also visit the Casa de l’Ós Bru in Isil, or check out the wildlife of the Lleida Pyrenees at Món Natura Pirineus.

If you’re visiting in July, be sure to time your trip to coincide with the Esbaiola’t Festival in Esterri d’Àneu—a theater festival for all ages now in its 13th edition! Many of the performances are outdoors and free, and those that aren’t have very family-friendly prices.

Another must-see when you visit the Vall d’Àneu is the Aigüestortes National Park and Lake Sant Maurici, a stunning landscape recognized as one of the most beautiful in Catalonia.
And finally (though there are many more recommendations!), for ski lovers, just over 30 minutes away by car, you’ll find three great places to ski: the Espot and Port Ainé ski resorts, certified by the Catalan Tourism Agency as “Family Tourism Facilities and Destinations,” and the Baqueira i Beret resort, which also boasts excellent facilities and a picturesque landscape.
