This was a very comfortable, convenient flat in the heart of Ferrara. It was the perfect base to get to know the town properly. In spite of its central location it was also very peaceful.We spent four enjoyable weeks here. Our host, Doris, was always helpful and responsive when we had any problems. She also offered us some excellent local recommendations.Highly recommended!

A lovely apartment for two in historic Ferrara

We stayed for six nights, thoroughly enjoyed the well equipped, comfortable apartment in the heart of Ferrara. Short walk to many historic sites, cafes and restaurants. The train station is a 20 minute walk, making for easy day trips to Venice and Bologna. Doris is a lovely host, she responded quickly to our questions and check in/out was straightforward. We appreciated the bicycles she arranged for us to have for the duration of our stay, we enjoyed the bike path around the old city wall. Some noise from renovations across the courtyard on weekdays but the location and apartment more than made up for the minor inconvenience. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful, quiet apartment

We stayed in Ferrrara for six days in the apartment and took Day trips all over the area. The apartment was extremely comfortable for the two of us. I think it would have been cramped had we been four. Doris was a wonderful host and kept in touch during our stay in Ferrara. The apartment was very clean and everything worked as described. Ferrara is a great town with many restaurants and great shops. The only inconvenience was that the wifi was very weak and we could not easily get on line.

gentili ospiti la rete WIFI delle volte èn debole , è un servizio che il nostro cumune da alla città , ho già provveduto con un moden VODAFONE cosi ci si può allacciare a INTERNET FELOCEMENTE , la cosa a cui tengo di più è la pulizia della casa e che il cliente trovi l,appartamento come è descritto sui i portali,.mi piace dedicare agli ospiti in arrivo tempo per le prime necessità .

Wonderful!

The apartment is located in the heart of historic Ferrara. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. Everything is within walking distance. Since we stayed for 2 weeks the washer/dryer came in handy. When we arrived Doris was there to greet us and explain how everything worked. The apartment was very clean. After our first week Doris scheduled an appointment to change our sheets and change out the towels. Throughout our stay she was always available to answer our questions or give us suggestions on what to see or where to eat. The apartment is clean and comfortable with all the amenities we needed plus a wonderful landlady. I can’t imagine a better place to stay in Ferrara.

Sehr schöner und entspannter Aufenthalt

Die Wohnung von Doris war exakt wie beschrieben, sauber, gepflegt und ruhig.Es war alles vorhanden, um zu kochen.Die Lage ist sehr gut, die Fahrräder fuhren gut, Doris war sehr freundlich und gut zu erreichenEs hat uns sehr gut gefallen.

breve vacanza in un'atmosfera rinascimentale

Abbiamo soggiornato a Casa Duchesse per quattro giorni a Gennaio 2018 e siamo stati molto soddisfatti. La posizione centralissima in una piccola cittadina permette una gran flessibilità, l'appartamento è spazioso, accogliente, molto curato e fornito di tutto il necessario. La padrona di casa cortese e disponibile. Lo consiglio sicuramente sopratutto a chi cerca un po' di atmosfera e non solo un letto per dormire.

week end lungo perfetto

Abbiamo trascorso in questo bellissimo appartamento il week end dell'8 Dicembre. L'appartamento è davvero centralissimo, situato in una via piena di negozi e vicinissimo alla Cattedrale di San Giorgio. E' veramente un gioiellino, di una pulizia eccezionale..dotato di tutti i comfort. La cucina è attrezzata, in uno dei due bagni c'è la lavatrice che mi sembra sia anche asciugatrice. La proprieraria Doris di una gentilezza e disponibilità estrema. Insomma siamo stati benissimo.

Be careful out there ...

Terrific apartment. Main door opens to Via Garibaldi, so from that point onward be careful. Cyclists everywhere in Ferrara, and they give themselves priority over pedestrians. You are responsible for not just straying into their path. Seriously. Other than that, Ferrara was wonderful. And this apartment places you within a half-hour walk of everything, including the train station for day trips (Venice is 1h20m away, Padua 50m, Bologna 35m). Price on this apartment is a value. It's clean, spacious, comfortable. But it can be chilly. We were there in mid-October and night temps were down into the 40s. There appeared to be a window a/c-heat unit combo, but it was impossible to figure it out. Needs some instructions. Doris, the owner, is friendly and was there soon after we at the main door. Her English is limited, and sometimes a response from her took time by text/email. We had no emergencies, but one time we did have a question about the dishwasher and it took a while. No big deal. We would stay here again without hesitation. If you are American or English, be aware that English-speaking Italians are hard to find. My wife studied Duolingo for months and I focused on the Foreign Language Institute free online manuals, so we felt comfortable with basic conversation.

empfehlenswertes appartment...

aber mit 2 schönheitsfehlern, die aber nicht in der verantwortung der vermieterin liegen. 1. momentan ist eine baustelle im innenhof, die früh lärm verursacht, 2. die nachbarin im oberstock steht früh auf und trippelt über den holzboden bis sie nach ca. einer stunde arbeiten geht und das haus verläßt. also nix für langschläfer. die wohnung ist gut ausgestattet, 2 bäder (eines ohne dusche) und großem schlafzimmer. die couch (im bild in der wohnküche) wird aber auch zum fernsehen genützt. man muß sich also mit einer 3. oder 4. person arrangieren. die fenster haben fliegengitter und bieten aussicht in den hof, der begrünt und sonst ruhig ist. die lage der wohnung ist ideal, ein parkplatz (kostenpflichtig) ca. 50 schritt entfernt (cortevecchia).der lift im haus bietet auch platz für fahrräder. bäcker, supermarkt, ganz tolle osteria (slurp) im umkreis von max. 5 minuten. wenn doris die nachbarin so weit bringt, daß sie leiser geht (barfuß oder filzpantoffeln) ist ein wiedersehen nicht ausgeschlossen. die baustelle im hof wird ja irgendwann beendet werden, oder?

siete stati ospiti stupendi , al momento nel giardino al interno della casa c'è un cantiere , stanno rifacendo un negozio alla fine novembre sarà finito , cosi la casa ritornerà silenziosa , anche se è in pieno centro non si trova fronte strada . le persone che abitano l'appartamento sopra sono andate via hanno venduto , farò presente ai prossimi di rispettare nelle ore del riposo il silenzio . Sono sepre contenta quando un ospite mi fa una segnalazione , cosi ho la possibilità di migliorare ,e di intervenire cordialmente Doris

Preciosa casa en magnífico emplazamiento

Apartamento reformado y realmente muy bonito, muy limpio y perfectamente equipado, en un edificio antiguo. La ubicación es inmejorable, en pleno centro de Ferrara a diez metros de la plaza municipal, y a cien metros del castillo Estense. La propietaria muy amable y atenta.

Fantastic flat

Doris's flat is in the perfect location to visit Ferrara being very central. Doris was the ideal host and sorted any questions or queries we had very quickly and efficiently. The flat is well appointed is well equipped and has everything you would need. The public Wifi arrangements is very similar to other Italian cities and is not a problem as the bar literally next door has free wifi if you cannot connect. With two teenage children children addicted to their phones, we didn't find this a problem at all. With fantastic culture, art, food and laid back vibe, we cannot wait to return....thank you Doris

Good central location

The apartment is located in the centre of Ferrara within easy walking distance of many of the sights. The apartment backs onto a very quiet courtyard so there is no noise from traffic. Apartment is well furnished - good quality bed and sofabed, and with its high ceilings has a nice atmosphere. Our only criticism is that the apartment is described as two bedroom, it is not - it has one large bedroom (with air conditioning) and one room that combines living room, kitchen and a sofabed (without air conditioning). This may not be too problematic as the sofabed is comfortable and there is a toilet adjacent to the room with the sofabed (the bedroom has an en suite bathroom). It worked out fine for us as we all had the same sleeping times but could be a problem for some groups. We enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it.

Great location, very good apt for two

We stayed there 8 days and were very happy. The location in a pedestrian area is excellent , near shops, restaurants , the castle and cathedral. All the interesting sights are within walking distance and the tourist office with good advice and maps is very close right inside the castle courtyard. We bought a multi day pass for the museums etc, which was great value. The apartment is really a one bedroom, 1 1/2 bathrooms. It would not suit two couples.The kitchen is pretty well equipped with 3 gas burners, a toaster oven, and a small refrigerator. We cooked many of our meals there. There is a combination washer and dryer in the 1/2 bathroom. The apartment building has an elevator, and the locks are good so it is very secure. The location is quiet because our windows (which open) face onto a grass courtyard. Doris lives nearby and is very cheerful and helpful. Her niece Emilia speaks very good English. We very much enjoyed our stay there and Ferrara is still quite unspoiled by too much tourism.

Un angolo di charme nel cuore di Ferrara

Ferrara è una città meravigliosa, ricca di monumenti da visitare, per lo più tutti concentrati nel suo meraviglioso centro e proprio lì è ubicato l'appartamento. Quando si dice a pochi passi dal centro, proprio quello vuol dire! Qualsiasi cosa si decida di fare, una visita, un aperitivo, una passeggiata, la spesa o lo shopping, ti basta scendere le scale (o prendere l'ascensore) e sei già arrivato! L'appartamento poi è splendido; arredamento di classe, no Ikea per intenderci, letto matrimoniale formato big, 2 bagni, 2 TV, angolo cottura piccolo all'apparenza ma incredibilmente funzionale e decisamente di alta qualità. Pulizia ineccepibile, silenzio assoluto. Decisamente un soggiorno di classe. La padrona di casa infine è una persona di una cordialità squisita, affabile e disponibile a dare consigli sulla città in genere, che siano i luoghi da visitare, i ristoranti in cui mangiare, i negozi in cui comprare prodotti tipici. Noi ci torneremo di sicuro!

5 star central, comfortable flat

Doris was an excellent host, very freindly and helpful. The flat is very clean comfortable all mod cons, spacious and luxurious. Full of light and tranquil as it looks out onto a lovely garden with a 200 year old plane tree, and lots of birds, you can visit and sit in the garden. The flat couldn't be more central, just a few steps from the Duomo and castle. There is a supermarket across the road and the amazing Slurp pizzeria next door - best pizza I've ever had anywhere! Don't miss the Palazzo Schifanoia with it's amazing fresco of the months - a real gem. If you like Greek vases you can't miss the archeological museum, world class collection.

Couldn't be more centrai

The apartment was very clean, well equipped and right in the centre of beautiful Ferrara. Doris was waiting to meet us from the bus stop in Ferrara and had thoughfully provided everything we needed - linen and towels, toilet rolls, condiments, water etc etc. A gem of a find in a gem of a city.

Great property

We had such a good time at Doris' property. Perfect location right in the heart of everything. Doris is so nice and made us feel very welcome. We really enjoyed meeting her. The building has an elevator which makes it nice. Air conditioning is also nice. The flat was very clean and we really liked it. Great place to walk everywhere in Ferrara. A nice surprise for us was the washing machine which we didn't realize was there, but we really needed. The kitchen has everything you need if you plan to cook, but there are many terrific restaurants you walk to from the apartment. We highly recommend it.

Beautiful appartment in ideal location

Doris made us very welcome in this beautiful, well appointed apartment near the main square, castle and cathedral. Despite its central position, and being Palio week, the apartment was quiet. Ferrara is a walled city of bikes and pedestrians with limited access for cars in its most ancient cobbled street. It is simply one of the most beautiful cities I've visited and being able to just step outside to find amazing buildings and discover a fascinating history was a joy. Good restaurants serving local food, interesting shops and markets, and cafes where you could watch the world go by. Recommend the pizza place next door and Le Due Comari. Procession/performance in the streets and main square on the evening we arrived, for the beginning of Palio week, was outstanding. Watching from the front door was a bonus. Ali Smith's book 'How to Be Both', featuring frescos in Palazzo Schifanoia, and Giorgio Bassani's 'Garden of the Finzi-Contini' , set in Ferrara in the 1930's. inspired my visit to Ferrara and happy hours were spent finding the places mentioned on those pages. Recommend them if you plan a visit. City splits neatly into the mediaeval and renaissance addition and a map from the tourist office suggests interesting themed walks. Archaeology museum, housed like many others in an old palazzo, was a revelation as it displayed, very creatively, the artefacts from 6th Century Etruscan town of Spina, discovered in 1922 during draining of the Po Delta. The Jewish cemetery and museum, small monasteries and the Palazzo Diamanti are well worth visiting but there is much pleasure in just walking the streets and enjoying the Italian life. The only negatives: Free Ferrara wifi is a myth, unless you have an Italian phone number, and we couldn't connect to Doris's mobile modem despite her efforts. No wifi was no real problem but you might want to organise a package if important. Vodaphone shop helped us check in flight online but Bologna airport has no print out machine so don't arrive late! In city, buses but no bus service to other towns or the coast. Tourist office said taxi, car or bike! Slow train to the coast means you have to return in an hour. Planned a trip to Bologna but there was a rail strike so we decided there was certainly more than enough to do in Ferrara! But will hire car for next time to explore area. Overall, a great apartment, memorable breakfast treat with lovely Doris in her favourite café and made to feel truly welcome. Wonderful

Perfetta!

Siamo stati nella casa per tre giorni, ed è esattamente come è descritta, foto comprese, quindi solo belle sorprese! L'appartamento era pulitissimo, fornito e davvero carino. Doris è stata molto amichevole e disponibile. La posizione è davvero centralissima ma la casa è silenziosa visto che le finestre danno su un giardino. Consigliatissimo!

Bella casa proprio in centro, in prossimità ci sono alimentari e parcheggio nelle immediate vicinanze. Padrona di casa gentile e disponibile, casa ben attrezzata, elegante e silenziosa.

Nel cuore della citta

Situato nel centro della citta ad un passo dalla cattedrale su una incantevole via pedonale. Molto pulito con un piccolo ma molto funzionale angolo cuttura. La camera matrimoniale è molto spaziosa e i due bagni e le due tv la rendono comoda anche per una famiglia con figli.Vicino c'è un comodissimo parcheggio per carico e scarico.La consiglio vivamente e ringrazio Doris per la gentilezza e l'ospitalita.
