Tuesday is market day in Settle, with vendors selling a wide range of crafts and items in the square. The Shambles, an old three-story building with stores on two floors and houses above, and the Town Hall dominate the market area, which is bordered by local businesses. There are several restaurants and pubs, as well as a public pool. Throughout the year, the Victoria Hall hosts entertainment and other activities such as folk nights. The famed Settle-Carlisle Railway passes through some of the country's most magnificent and inspiring upland terrain.
