Town: Tiverton, Mid Devon's largest town, has a romantic castle and horse-drawn barge trips on the Grand Western Canal. Tiverton's location on the Exe and the Lowman rivers made it a prosperous textile town with many fine buildings. Blackmore immortalised Old Blundells in Lorna Doone. Henry I commissioned Tiverton Castle in 1106 as a royal fortress.
