The whole area is full of historic castles and churches, close to the village and well worth visiting is Glen Orchy Church which is of unusual octagonal architecture as well as monument on the mountainside, dedicated to Duncan Ban MacIntyre – the celebrated 18th Century Gaelic poet. Just 5 minutes’ drive is the small inland loch-side village of Loch Awe, which is well served by a general store and post office, a hotel, and a newly refurbished inn. Loch Awe is Scotland longest freshwater loch and has superb fishing, enchanted islands, and deserted castles to explore. With Oban, the Gateway to the Isles and Inveraray, the home of the Duke of Argyll, both just a 30 minutes’ drive, there is plenty to explore. Oban gives you access supermarkets, ferry terminal, shops, cafes, restaurants and has a cinema, leisure centre and Oban whisky distillery.
