Private Scottish Manor | Retreats, 16 En-Suites, 140m² Pavilion + 4pm Checkout

McArthur Manor wasn’t designed on paper as a venue for groups; it has been shaped by the groups who have actually stayed here.

For more than a decade, every retreat, off-site, celebration and gathering has taught us something. We’ve listened, changed layouts, added facilities, moved things around, improved the way spaces connect and continually refined how we look after people.

The result isn’t simply a large house that happens to accommodate groups. It’s a Manor that has evolved around how groups actually meet, eat, relax, celebrate and spend time together — and around the things organisers need to make all of that feel effortless.

And we’re still tinkering. If guests show us a better way of doing something, there’s a very good chance it will be different by the time they come back.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

• Exclusive use of McArthur Manor — one group, no other guests.
• 16 individually styled bedrooms, all with their own private en-suite bathroom.
• 12 noon check-in, so arrival day actually feels like part of the stay.
• 4pm checkout, so departure day does too.
• Daily guest-attendant / housekeeping support to help with washing up, light housekeeping, resetting spaces and the practical things that otherwise become the organiser's job.
• 140m² McArthur Pavilion, ready for meetings, workshops, yoga, games, dinner, films, karaoke, dancing or a proper party.
• 150" projection screen, AV, sound system, karaoke setup, DJ lighting, disco ball and a substantial collection of games equipment.
• Your own traditional private pub, including beer pumps, alongside the Lounge and Pavilion.
• Fully equipped commercial catering kitchen plus a second prep kitchen.
• Commercial-grade Wi-Fi throughout.
• On-site parking for 22 cars, with additional managed event parking by arrangement, plus EV charging.
• Bedding, towels, toiletries and the everyday details you would expect to be ready when you arrive.

THE HOUSE IS DESIGNED TO KEEP PEOPLE TOGETHER

Large-group houses often solve the sleeping problem and create another one: everyone disappears into different rooms.

The Manor works differently. The Lounge, private pub and Pavilion sit together and flow into one another, with the patio just beyond. During the day the Pavilion can be a strategy room, workshop, yoga studio or presentation space; later the same room can become dinner, casino, cinema, ceilidh or dance floor.

There is enough space to spread out, but the building naturally brings people back together. That's the bit that's difficult to show in a floorplan — and one of the things our guests notice most once they're here.

FOR RETREATS, OFF-SITES & GROUP PROGRAMMES

The Manor works particularly well when the reason for coming matters as much as the accommodation.

Run presentations or workshops in the Pavilion, use the Lounge and dining rooms for smaller conversations, take a break in the garden, then move straight into drinks, dinner or entertainment without loading everybody back onto a coach.

The 150" screen, sound system and commercial Wi-Fi are already here. So are the pub, games, lighting and flexible furniture. Much of what a conventional venue would ask you to hire in separately is already sitting in the building waiting to be used.

That means the organiser can concentrate on the retreat, meeting or programme itself rather than spending half the stay managing the venue around it.

AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE HELP AS YOU WANT

Some groups want the keys, a stocked kitchen and the freedom to run the house themselves. Others want us involved from the first planning call until the coach pulls away. Most sit somewhere happily in between.

You'll deal with people who actually know the house and your plans. We can help with rooming, menus, transport, suppliers, timings, activities, dining setups and the little logistical problems that appear when you're organising a group.

For overseas organisers in particular, we can effectively become your people on the ground in Scotland. Rather than coordinating drivers, caterers and activity providers from another country, give us the moving parts and we can help join them together.

The aim is simple: your guests should feel looked after, while the organiser gets to be a guest too.

MAKE THE STAY YOUR OWN

There is no fixed McArthur Manor package. Optional experiences and services can be added individually or woven into a fuller itinerary. These are arranged separately and subject to availability, but possibilities include:

• Breakfasts, relaxed suppers, formal dinners and full-board catering
• Bartenders, cocktails, drinks receptions and kegs for pulling your own pints in the pub
• Highland Games, axe throwing, combat archery and laser clay shooting
• Whisky tastings and Scottish history evenings
• A traditional Burns Supper, including the possibility of making it a properly Scottish occasion with the local Clan Chief
• Ceilidhs, pipers and other Scottish entertainment
• Casino nights and murder mysteries
• Falconry experiences
• Spa and wellness treatments
• Golf, cycling, kayaking and other outdoor activities
• Distilleries, castles, Highland excursions and private day trips
• Airport transfers, coaches, minibuses and local transport
• Bespoke themed evenings and plenty of ideas that probably won't appear on a normal holiday-let checklist

Or do none of it. Light the fire, open the pub, order food, play pool and enjoy having the house to yourselves.

THE 4PM CHECKOUT REALLY DOES MATTER

This sounds like a small thing until you've experienced the usual alternative.

There is no 9am alarm because everybody has to be packed and out by 10 or 11. Have breakfast properly. Talk about the night before. Make lunch. Play one last game of pool. Find the missing charger. Pack without throwing everything into the nearest bag.

Your final day is still part of the stay, not an evacuation.

And because check-in is from 12 noon, the same is true at the other end: you're not losing most of arrival day waiting until late afternoon to get the keys.

WHY PEOPLE BOOK THE MANOR

McArthur Manor is deliberately more than accommodation. You're not simply paying for bedrooms; you're getting privacy, space, built-in entertainment, serious group infrastructure and people who can help make the whole thing work.

From the first message to the moment we wave you off, the idea is that someone has your back. We know the house, we know the local suppliers, and by the time you arrive we should already know how you want the stay to feel.

If all you need is somewhere for everyone to sleep, there are simpler options. If the time you spend together is the reason for the trip, that's exactly what the Manor is built around.

Old, dated Manor did not meet our expectations

We had been looking forward to our weekly stay in Scotland for almost 3 years. Sadly, the villa did not meet our high expectations. First, the villa was in a nice location in Blairgowrie with a large yard, and a quiet neighborhood. The house has great character but it is old and rustic. There are 10 bedrooms inside the main house and 8 cottages in the courtyard. Ten of them are king bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. The rooms are a nice size, but the carpet is old and the floors creak when you walk on them. The hot water in some of the bathrooms did not work properly and the walls were so thin that you could hear people snoring or coughing in the adjoining room. My wife and I stayed in the Master Suite with the turret on the 2nd floor. The room was large but the windows had plexiglass covering them so that they could not be opened. The house has no air conditioning or ceiling fans so the rooms have no air flow and become stale and stuffy. I was forced to move out of my room and into a double room that had a window that opened so that I could get some cool air from outside. Nicholas was very good to work with and met our every request, including electric fans for the rooms. However, out of our group of 18, 10 left the villa after only 4 days. Of the 4 couples who stayed the entire 4 days, 2 of them had to change rooms. For what we paid to rent the villa for 1 week, I expected a lot more comfort. I have stayed in 5 star villas but this was not one of them. In addition to the base rent, my wife and I also ordered additional services, including a welcome dinner on the first night of our stay with a special anniversary cake, a bagpiper, a band to play ceilidh dance songs, special commemorative gift boxes for each guest, a highland games feature, a whisky/chocolate pairing and a farewell dinner. I highly recommend the bagpiper, the band and ceilidh dancing, the whisky/chocolate pairing and the gift boxes. However, I do not recommend paying extra for the preparation of meals, special dessert, or for the Highland Games. Save your money and use the large kitchen on the ground floor with 2 full size pizza ovens. We made our own pizza one night and spaghetti with salad the other night and we loved it. You can also walk to nearby restaurants. The house did have some other very nice features as well, but if you are unable to sleep comfortably, nothing else really matters. If you need a place with 18 bedrooms without air conditioning, this might work.

Fabulous Stay for 50th Birthday

We initially booked Altamount Manor in January 2021 for July 2021 but we couldnt go ahead due to Covid complications. Nick, the owner, transferred our whole booking to October 2021 in the course of 1 phone call. No hassle at all, and very easy to deal with. On arrival at the property Nick and his staff couldnt do enough for us. We had booked a barbeque for the friday night for our whole party of 30 and the food was delicious. We also booked breakfast for the saturday morning which was perfect. An afternoon tea was also arranged for us by Nick which was absolutely delicious. Saturday nigbt was party night and Nick had arranged for the hall to be decorated with a beautiful balloon arch and decorations. The hall provided the perfect space for dancing and the PA system worked perfectly. The whole manor is spotlessly clean and very homely. All in all we woukd totally recommend Altamount Manor for any occasion!

Great for a family get together

A great venue for a family get together. The function room set up for games, including a bouncy castle, proved a wonderful part of the weekend for the kids (thanks Nicholas for suggesting it) and the sitting room and separate bar area proved a lovely combination for the adults to socialise and move between groups. The commercial kitchen was much more user friendly than it looked and self-catering for 27 proved it! Negatives? despite Andrew’s ingenuity the house really isn’t set up for disabled or partially disabled guests at this time. The location is great for access to town and some lovely walks, but it is far from being secluded and the houses overlooking the front lawns were a bit of a surprise to be honest, as was seeing people walking past the dining room windows on a regular basis. The positives far outweighs these though, and Altamount proved a wonderful venue for a memorable long weekend with family ranging from 16mths to 96yrs. Also great to have Andrew on call, who was ever willing and most helpful at all times.

The manor house was rented as a self-catering use property. The guests brought thier own chef and broke a lot of kitchen items and then expected us to change towels and clean bedrooms during the stay when no housekeeping services were paid for. This is not a hotel. The property decor and facilities are of a very high standard after the recent renovations. I apologise that you felt the water pressure was not good enough, but this is a 230 year old building.

Stay with Friends

The manor was the perfect venue for the weekend, we hosted a party with a few friends. The rooms were all a good size and the hosts were very accommodating to our needs. The industrial kitchen was perfect for cooking for a large amount of people and all the communal areas were a brilliant size for hosting. The house was spotless on arrival, couldn’t fault it. Lovely location would recommend.

Hogmanay Stay (Self-Catered)

We had a group of 36 staying in the manor celebrating three 30th birthdays and New Years Eve. It was perfect for us, everyone had their own beds and en-suites, the commercial grade kitchen meant we were able to self cater with ease and, with the permission of Nick (the owner), we were able to stock up the fully functional bar and have our own pub in the house (perfect for our own Hogmanay celebrations). There were a few minor niggles during our stay but that is to be expected given the age of the property and Nick could not have been more helpful in rectifying any issues we had. Overall can’t recommend the place enough if you have a large easy going group looking for an escape to the Scottish countryside.

40th birthday themed weekend

We hired Altamount manor for my 40th birthday celebration. We had a 1920’s Gatsby theme & Nick & the team got right on board. From suggestions to implementation everything was 5 star. The team went above and beyond and demonstrated a sheer commitment to ensure the weekend was exactly what we wanted. All the guests were blown away with all the attention to detail. I couldn’t recommend Nick & the team enough - the quality of the food, personalised service and facilities were just fantastic. Thank you so much Elaine

Great property for a party

Nick and Cynthia were nice hosts. Cracking big old house which was perfect for a 40th birthday party. Catering was good. Only negative was we were told the PA sound system had to be turned off at midnight which i wasn't aware of until about 20 minutes before. The alternative sound system in the other areas of the house was unfortunately broken. Nick had told us about that before we arrived but it then left us with no music at the party apart from the little speakers we had brought along. We still had fun though!

Fabulouse house and hosts

Recently stayed at the Manor House for a business team retreat. Plenty of room for 15 people to have their own rooms although if going with friends then can accommodate lots more. There was also plenty of main reception/dining rooms to allow for breakout sessions. The hosts Nick and Cynthia were very welcoming and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Will certainly consider booking again for a business or leisure break.

Sobre o anfitrião

Anfitrião: Nicholas Lungley

Imagem do perfil do anfitrião
I’m Nicholas, and together with my wife Cynthia I’ve spent more than a decade shaping McArthur Manor around the groups who stay here.

I’m usually your main point of contact from the first conversation onwards — part host, part planner and occasionally the person solving a problem you didn’t know you were going to have.

What I enjoy most is taking the complicated side of bringing a group together and making it feel easy. That might mean arranging airport transfers, planning meals and activities, finding a whisky expert or masseuse, coordinating a day in the Highlands, or simply making sure everything is where it needs to be when you arrive.

No two groups use the Manor in quite the same way, and that is exactly how we like it. We’ll be as involved as you want us to be, while making sure the organiser gets to enjoy the stay too.

From the first conversation until we wave you off, you’ll be dealing with people who genuinely know the house and care about how your time here turns out.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

Blairgowrie gives us a combination that is surprisingly difficult to find: countryside on the doorstep without being miles from civilisation.

The Manor sits on the edge of town, so you can be walking beside the River Ericht or heading into the Perthshire countryside one moment, then wander into Blairgowrie for a coffee, pub or something you forgot at the shops. The town centre and Tesco are both around a 10-minute walk away.

For groups staying several days, the location really comes into its own. The Cateran Trail begins locally, there is excellent golf nearby, and Perthshire is full of castles, distilleries, woodland walks and Highland scenery. We can also arrange everything from fishing and cycling to Highland activities and days further afield.

It is particularly useful for overseas groups because you can experience a very Scottish part of the country without spending the whole trip in a coach. Blairgowrie makes a great base for exploring, while still giving you somewhere easy to come home to at the end of the day.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

McArthur Manor has been shaped by the groups who stay here.

It began as a hotel, but over the years we have continually adapted it around what we have learned from retreats, company off-sites, celebrations and groups travelling to Scotland from around the world. The result is not simply a large house that accommodates groups; it is a property designed around how people actually spend time together.

There are 16 en-suite bedrooms, but what really makes the Manor work is everything around them: the 140m² Pavilion for meetings, dining, yoga, games, films, karaoke and parties; your own private pub; commercial kitchen; large Lounge; gardens and courtyard; AV, sound and entertainment equipment already in the house.

The service is part of the property too. Daily guest-attendant and housekeeping support helps with the practical jobs behind the scenes, while we can assist with everything from catering and transport to activities, excursions and complete itineraries. You can run the stay largely yourselves or hand us the moving parts you would rather not organise.

We also give you something increasingly rare: time. Check-in is from 12 noon and standard checkout is 4pm, so both the first and final day genuinely form part of your stay rather than disappearing into arrival and departure logistics. These, along with daily guest support and the Manor’s wider facilities, form part of the way the property is positioned for group stays.

The aim is simple: your guests feel looked after, the organiser gets to enjoy themselves too, and the house quietly works around whatever brought everybody together.
