Beautiful 2 bedroom cottage 5 minutes from the River Charente

Originally a barn this beautifully converted, detached gite, has it's own private garden area, sitting amongst trees on the edge of the charming village of Crazannes, just a 5 minute walk from the River Charente. The nearest town is Saintes which as well as offering many places to visit with its Roman Heritage, has all your shopping needs.

This attractive, comfortable and very well equipped gite is ideal for family holidays with everything you would need for a young family. Or this peaceful setting is ideal for a quiet get away. Spend the day by the shared pool or relaxing in the garden. Or visit one of the many beaches most of which are just a 40 minute drive.

Also perfectly located for those who wish to explore the area or to just relax and enjoy the weather! With beautiful sunny days throughout the year this makes it a perfect location for walking and cycling and enjoying the surrounding countryside and for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages.

What's in the area?: With just a 40 minute drive north west to the Atlantic coast you will find the sunny beaches of Fouras and Chatelaillon Plage. And to the south west, still just 40 minutes, there are the beautiful beaches of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. With many more but unfortunately we haven’t visited them all!
With Cognac a 35 minute drive, tours around one of the famous Martell, Hennessy or Remy Martin distilleries are a must.

Just 50 minutes from the beautiful coastal town of La Rochelle, a must for any shopper! La Rochelle has a wonderful ambience with many restaurants bursting on to the pavements. Seafood is of course the speciality. Just 60 minutes to the stunning Île de Ré. With wonderful shops to browse round at Saint-Martin-de-Ré and an amazing choice of pavement cafes and restaurants, all looking on to the harbour. Île de Ré has many beautiful beaches and more wonderful quaint villages to wonder around.

Além de conhecer La Pierre de Crazannes e Château de Crazannes, dois dos principais pontos de interesse locais, visite também Golf Louis Rouyer-Guillet e Les Raisins da Abadia para se divertir para valer. Para quem viaja com crianças, Parque de Diversões Porto Miniatura e Château Fort de Saint Jean d'Angle são ótimas opções de passeios. We had a lovely stay. Catherine was very welcoming and the property very clean. The swimming pool is perfect and the garden very nice for warm evenings. Catherine left fans to help with the hot weather.

Great stay, brilliant location and great weather!

The house was all we could have wished for and the pool was the icing on the cake. We enjoyed a peaceful base with all amenity’s you need, and cycled through al the connected towns and villages. Thank you to Catherine for being a lovely host and helpful. Thanks for organising the excellent weather too!

Perfect escape in rural France

Peace and quiet but plenty to do

We spent a delightful week at l'Olivier. Catherine was a perfect host, and nothing was too much trouble. The gite is peaceful and homely, the gardens spacious and well-kept, and the lovely pool an added bonus. There is lots to do and see within a five mile radius of the house. We'd definitely recommend.

Both gite and shady gardens fully met expectations. Gite was spotless, well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The gardens are ideal with both sunny and shady areas. The main house and two gites each have complete independent privacy. The pool is large, clean and well equipped with sun loungers and brollies. Lots of useful local information left in the gite. The hosts, Catherine and Terry, were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much bother. We even had help from Terry to repair my old classic car and we knew we could call on Catherine for anything. Gold star hosts. We would be delighted to return and would highly recommend this lovely property in this beautiful area.

Shame about the weather

Unfortunately the weather wasn't very good and this attracted Mosquitos, so we never really used the outside facilities. I am sure given sunny dry weather the cottage would be delightful. Good location with pretty villages nearby and only an hour to Ile de Re (recommended) and only 40 mins to the coast.

Trés beau cottage, dans un cadre magnifique et une belle localisation. Beaucoup de balades à faire dans les environs et d'endroits à découvrir. Seul point négatif, les moustiques, qui nous ont empêchés de profiter pleinement de l'extérieur. Le plus : la piscine 😊

Nous sommes vraiment désolés pour l'odeur. Il est dommage que vous ne l'ayez pas mentionné lorsque nous vous avons demandé au début de votre séjour si tout allait bien. Nous aérons bien sûr le gîte entre tous nos clients. Cependant, lors d'une enquête suite à votre séjour, nous avons découvert qu'il y avait eu un visiteur indésirable dans le loft (mais certainement pas un mouton!). Nous avons résolu ce problème et résolu l'odeur. Encore une fois nos sincères excuses. Nous espérons, avec plaisir, vous accueillir à nouveau aux Gîtes de la Bergerie (pas de moutons ici depuis des décennies !).

Très bien équipé, lits très confortables, maison douillette, propriétaire accueillante, emplacement parfait pour un séjour au vert, tout proche des lapidiales, des pierres de crazannes et de la magnifique ville de Saintes pour ne citer que ces lieux !

A welcoming home from home.

We very much enjoyed our stay in L’Olivier which is the two bedroom gite. It was a home from home, very comfortable and well thought out space. Very clean on arrival and neat and tidy. The gite sits in a private space which is well shaded. The pool and pool area are perfect for a lounge and swim which was very welcome during this year’s heatwave. Catherine is a great host who was very welcoming and on hand if you needed anything. Communication prior to our stay and during our stay was excellent. She is a lovely lady. Some beautiful towns and villages nearby to visit and a convenient drive both to cities such as La Rochelle, Cognac and Bordeaux. We would definitely recommend a stay here.

Ruhe, Comfort und Natürlichkeit

Wir sind sehr herzlich empfangen worden und haben uns sofort wohl und im Urlaub gefühlt. Das Haus ist gut ausgestattet. L'Olivier liegt schattig, was an warmen Tagen ein großer Vorteil ist. Der Pool ist in der Sonne und es gibt reichlich Liegen und Sonnenschirm. Wir kommen sehr gern wieder.

We arrived here with our young family in 2003 with the intention of giving it a go for 5 years and we're still here!
We came here from Surrey, so the pace of life has slowed down considerably, not only is this a great holiday destination it's a great place to live too.
Both our children loved growing up here, they've only known the French school system so are far more fluent than either of us!

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

When we first saw this property and the beautiful garden we knew this had to be the one.
The huge draw was the the fact that even though the 'gites' were little more than shells used for storage and garaging we could see they had massive potential especially as they were completely independent of the main house and each other. So each house would have it's only private space.
The location is perfect, not a huge drive from the UK and when our guests arrive there are lots of interesting places to visit including some amazing beaches within a short drive.
It was a top priority that our guests would be comfortable as although generally the climate is warm and sunny it's inevitable that some days may not be so bright.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

The thing I remember most was during our second viewing of the property, we were sitting on the terrace and could hear the church bell chime midday, beautiful! So very peaceful and our girls have often said how lovely it is to sit and listen to the birds, as there are so many trees in the garden there are certainly no shortage of those!
