Alice Howe is a magnificent grade II listed building designed by Augustus AWN Pugin (perhaps more famous for designing the Palace of Westminster) located in the heart of Windermere. Alice Howe, Number 3 The Terrace sleeps 14 in 7 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms. This group accommodation in the Lake District has been awarded 4 stars by Visit Britain. It features a fantastic lounge with huge lush leather Chesterfield sofas all set round an open fire and a dining room which seats 14 around a gorgeous solid oak table.

The house has two kitchens one for prepping and washing up, one for cooking, eating and socialising. The social kitchen has a wood-burning stove and a rustic table where many a late night has been spent with a bottle of wine (or two). Upstairs there are 7 bathrooms, and 7 bathrooms, 5 of which are ensuite.

Outside there is a rear courtyard which is home to a 7-seat hot tub the space has a large table plus a barbecue for alfresco dining. At the front of the house there there is parking for up to 6 cars and access to a fast EV charger located on the maintenance building adjacent to Boston House.. Alice Howe is located in Windermere Village where you'll find a host of restaurants bars and boutique shops. Alice Howe is available to let on its own or along with any combination of our other 5 properties on The Terrace in Windermere sleeping up to a total of 67 guests.

Whether you're visiting for a girls' weekend, a family celebration or milestone birthday, Alice Howe, Number 3 The Terrace our large luxury holiday let in Windermere is the perfect place to base yourself.

We welcome up to 4 dogs at the property. There is an additional charge per dog, which can be added at check-out.

Amazing House & perfect location

Absolutely loved our group stay in Alice Howe. The owners were really helpful at booking and leading up to our arrival. The house itself is beautiful and great inside. It was perfect for what we needed. Everyone loved watching the football and a film in the cinema room. The hot tub was a treat for achy legs. We’d love to go back next year.

We had a fantastic stay here with a group of friends and would definitely recommend it. The property was very clean, spacious and exactly as advertised, with plenty of room for everyone to relax.The location was excellent — very central for Windermere, with a supermarket just a few minutes away, which was really convenient. There was loads of space for us all to cook and eat together, making it perfect for a larger group.The bedrooms were comfortable, with two double rooms and the remaining rooms set up as twins. The property was also extremely dog friendly, which was a big bonus for us.Communication with the host was excellent throughout — friendly, helpful and responsive.We all really enjoyed our stay and had a brilliant time. A great property for a group of friends or family wanting to stay in Windermere!

Family get together

Clear instructions received before arriving. The accommodation was spacious and very well equipped. There were 13 in our party and plenty of space. Two kitchens, large dining room and sitting room. The cinema and hot tub were fantastic. The bedrooms were comfortable. A 2 minute walk into Windermere then a further walk/short bus ride down to Bowness and the lake. Couple of minor maintenance issues but nothing that spoilt our stay. Would book again

Not all features available

Lovely location, however looked clean on the surface but the wooden tables were sticky and not cleaned properly Hot tub not available - due to jets not working (we booked for the hot tub so this was very disappointing? Cinema room was in the musty cellar and was damp - the second we went down to use we could t as the damp was overpowering

We're sorry to hear the tables weren't up to standard — a thorough clean, including all surfaces, is standard on our checklist and we've fed this back to the team. The hot tub was checked and in full working order before your arrival. Our team did attend during your stay to fix a stuck lid and reassemble the filter unit, which was ready for use again shortly after. The cinema room is in the cellar and does have a window that can be opened for airflow. We haven't had reports of damp from other guests, but we'll ask the team to double-check that nothing needs airing out more between stays. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

The host was excellent throughout the process and was very hands on and helpful. The house was exactly as described on vbro. We particularly enjoyed the spaciousness of the house and its layout. We arrived as a party of nine adults and 4 grandchildren. The cinema downstairs was a great attraction for the grand kids who seemed to enjoy being at the movies. The rooms were a good size and well equipped. . It’s situated conveniently for booths the supermarket and a little further on the lovely town of Windermere. There were two kitchens and equipped to a very high standard. Particularly to note was the dinning room and had 14 places. The jacuzzi out back was excellent and also a large bench and parasol for al fresco. All in all excellent accommodation with a host who really cared to ensure you had an excellent time. There was parking for 6 cars out front well labelled.We had an excellent time celebrating my wife’s birthday. Ultimate test is would we go back again and the answer is Yes. Good location , great accommodation, great parking, spacious accommodation quality throughout and a great host.,

It was the perfect place for us as a family, all rooms were fantastic and the facilities were ideal.

We would 100% stay again, thank you for making a great weekend perfect!! The weather we had the weekend we stayed was amazing, so we had the benefit of the back garden an the front both of which were used by all.

Beautiful house close to all amenities

We were a group of 14 celebrating my 60th birthday. The owners were extremely helpful with any queries and also let us drop off / leave bags before check in and departure to suit our travel arrangements . The house has everything you need to stay in but is also close to all bars / shops etc in Windermere. The bus to the lake is very regular and cuts the 40 min walking time to a 5 min bus journey. Beds were all very comfy and all rooms exceptionally clean. Hot tub/ bbq outside A couple of out party mantioned the showers not being very powerful however our room at the top had an Amazing shower. Would highly highly recommend on all aspects

30th birthday celebration

Alice Howe was a beautiful home for our stay to celebrate our daughter’s 30th birthday. The weekend before Christmas was difficult to book a house for so many people but this was a fantastic place to stay. The location was perfect, very well equipped house with everything you could need for a stay. The cinema room was a hit with everyone as was the hot tub and having a beautiful Christmas tree was a lovely touch a fantastic stay and we will definitely be back

Celebration Holiday

This is a fantastic house if you are looking to celebrate with your family or friends. We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday with lots of our family. It was perfect for us. There was plenty of room with everyone. The two kitchens were a real bonus and well equipped, making it easy to cater for our large group. There was plenty of space for everyone to relax and unwind in the evening. The cinema room was a big hit with our children and get well used! The location was excellent being close to the town and train station. The buses are regular and we enjoyed a trip to Bowness and Ambleside. Orrest Head walk was right across the road from the house which was ideal for a lovely walk. The communication from the owner before we arrived was excellent throughout, and made everything easy for us to get settled in. We felt well informed and knew exactly what to expect. We arrived early after a long journey and were kindly allowed to park outside the house, which was really helpful. We were welcomed by Liz the manager and her team. I would highly recommend this holiday home for a large group of people. We would gladly stay here again. There was few tears from our younger members, they wanted to stay forever

Our Annual Family Gathering

This beautiful home provides an opportunity for catch ups, rest, a lot of laughter and many memories to be made for wider family from Northern Ireland, Ayrshire, Aberdeenshire and Glasgow. LOVELY STAY

We where a group of 14 ladies aged 59 - 82 celebrating one of the groups up and coming 60th birthday. The house was spacious enough for us all and accommodated all our needs. We would definitely recommend it to family and friends. Great location too.

Excellent luxury winter break

Another visit to Alice Howe for a winter break for a group of ladies. Fantastic house with lots to offer - comfy beds, lots of space, great kitchens and excellent socialising areas. Location is also brilliant - buses and trains nearby and lots of walking. We will be back

50th birthday celebrated in style with friends and family, outstanding place and would defo return

Beautiful residence caters for all, basics supplied on arrival tea, coffee etc. Daily checks on the hot tub . In the heart of the village so close to everything. Extremely happy with our stay to celebrate with family and friends for a milestone birthday .

Perfect location for a family celebration

We stayed as an extended family group for one week to celebrate a big birthday. The property was spacious enough for us all. The location was close to all amenities. Walk up Orest Head, railway and buses were excellent ideal for exploring the area without using your car..The property was well fitted out with comfy beds and en-suites ideal for us and our dogs. Good local restaurants.

Warm, welcoming house

We were delighted to be welcomed into Alice Howe, a spacious and beautifully presented house. We stayed for two nights and had a great time enjoying the hot tub, cinema room and wonderful kitchen space. Every guest slept well and the en-suites were very clean. A great house which we hope to visit again soon.

Alice Howe was the first house Andrew and Barbara purchased on The Terrace. They fell in love with the property and soon developed an appetite for more. 17 years later they own the whole street. The Terrace is a unique offering of 5 large houses catering for 12 to 69 guests.

We purchased Alice Howe as a family holiday home in The Lake District. We soon realised we wanted to upgrade and share it. The property booked up really quickly, giving us the confidence to dream of buying the whole Terrace. 17 years later we own every property on the row. The Terrace Windermere is an amazing group of big houses in Windermere village all for rent. People come here to create amazing memories, we love helping them make that happen.
