Lake District Delight

A fabulous cottage, plan was a quiet retreat and it was. Highly recommend Graythwaite’s Hilltop. We do recommend using ferry from Bowness to access the Cottage. It is less than 10 minutes from Ferry.

Lovely cottage near the lake

We spend 5 wonderful days in the hilltop cottage. It was very spacious for 2 adults and two tweens. It was very well equipped. The hot tub was a treat. Nearby a lot of sights by car.

Lovely weekend stay

Stayed at Hilltop to do The Lap - absolutely perfect for this - very short walk to the start line, comfy beds, marvellous shower, and comfy sofas to relax in the next day. Very well maintained and really relaxing surroundings. Was worried it would be hard to find but very well sign posted and excellent communication from booking office. Would definitely stay again as didn’t have time to do additional activities which sounded lovely!

Hilltop

Hilltop is a secret forest hide away, perfect for walking and being by the lake, Hilltop is looking tired and could do with being cleaner ie under and behind furniture. Could do with new ironing board or cover.Lawns needed mowing and drive weeding, It’s really just little things but when you’re paying strong money they should be done!

This is a very comfortable cottage with good size rooms. It is in a quiet location with easy access to the lakeside path on Windermere.

Very happy. Great service and great location

We were very glad to have booked Hilltop. Excellent service from start to finish. The location is perfect for a secluded and private getaway. The house is very well maintained and has well appointed dining, kitchen, living and sleeping areas. Nice wood fired hot tub too.

Hilltop Cottage

The cottage was lovely and cosy we enjoyed spending time there aswell as going out. The swimming pool was just the right size and we had it to ourselves for each booking. We found the farm shop to be extremely pricey. Would definitely book a cottage on the Graythewaite Estate again.

Great property

Property Superb location Very secluded and peaceful with plenty of parking Loads of internal space and the property has a great layout Fabulous log fire in lounge too. Hot tub Sadly we didn’t use it as after filling up with water and many attempts to get the water warmed we gave up. Not sure if it was because it was chilly outside but the fire just kept going out so we didn’t bother in the end. It does say approx 90/120 mins to get warm but you must just have to sit at the side regularly stoking and sorting the fire with wood so we decided against it. Beds We only slept in the main bed which sadly wasn’t comfy. When two people were laying down, there was a real slope towards the middle which resulted in poor sleep and aching backs on the morning. Had to literally rest a pillow between us to stop any roll towards the centre. I know from reading other feedback that this has been commented on before so it’s a shame it doesn’t appear to have been sorted. To the naked eye the bed looks OK but it’s when it is laid on the problems start. Easily fixable with a new mattress. Loads of space in the bedroom though as a plus point and great dual aspect windows. Lounge As mentioned lovely log fire which we used a lot. The TV is a smart tv but we did have a few internet problems. Maintenance came out promptly but sadly they couldn’t fix the issue. It didn’t detract from our stay as we used our 5G connection on phones. The two sofas in the lounge are in need of some care as they are not comfy when sat on for a long time. Again, can be easily sorted with a new sofa or at least someone to check the padding. Overall we had a lovely stay and would stay again if the few issues were sorted.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback. We’re really pleased to hear that you had a lovely stay. It’s a shame you didn’t get to enjoy the hot tub. As it is wood-fired, it can take a little time and attention to get up to temperature, particularly in colder weather, but it is lovely once going. We had replaced the mattress following previous feedback, so we were concerned to hear about your experience. Our maintenance team have since inspected the bed and found that the central support beneath the mattress had broken. This has now been temporarily repaired and a new bed base is on order. Had we known during your stay, we would of course have been very happy to come and take a look. We were aware of the internet issue, and following your stay our external engineer has replaced the Starlink equipment with a newer version. We have also already replaced one of the sofas, with the second replacement currently on order and due shortly. Thank you again for your constructive feedback. We’re glad these issues didn’t detract too much from your stay, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to enjoy the property again in the future.

Our stay is always wonderful, we never tire of this cottage but a few things need to be updated now, the patio has a couple of broken slaps which could be dangerous, the window pains need mending and painting and we feel if just a little bit of money was spent on this property it would be perfect.

Nearly a Great Cottage

Fab stay. Great location with space to park and near many excellent walks on the estate. Tho need a short walk to get a view of the Lake. Cottage had a nice feel in sunny weather and plenty of room. Probably needs updating to get a top rating and cleaning could do with bit more effort in places (like shower plug ! ). Thick walls means, without heating, on its pretty cool inside even in warm weather. Would stay again.

A lovely family stay at Hilltop

We had a lovely stay at Hilltop with our young family. The location is beautiful, private and very peaceful. The accommodation was extensive, well equipped for a family and clean. Our only recommendation for the property would be to have a smart TV, as parents who stay in on an evening and children who enjoy kids tv on a morning and bedtime it comes in handy. We definitely want to come back and stay. The hot tub is a great special feature and is easy to use, we had a great view from ours.

Secluded and private cottage in a fantastic location, home away from home.

This was my 6th time staying on the Graythwaite Estate and the 2nd time in this wonderful cottage. The location is fantastic with glimpses of Lake Windermere from the lounge and main bedroom windows. The garden is private, not overlooked and has a hot tub which is a delight. Being log fire heated it takes a while to warm up on first use but then, as long as you close the lid after using, stays warm for a long time with just a few extra logs needed to get it to the optimum temperature. The cottage itself is well equipped, clean and spacious. It's less than a 2 mile walk to the car / passenger ferry to Bowness if you fancy travelling a bit further afield but fancy a car free day. The Cuckoo Brow Inn is about a mile walk away, it is very welcoming and has a pleasant menu.

Lovely break

We spent a week in Hilltop and had a lovely time. It is remote but that's what we wanted. However a short drive away you can get the ferry across to Bowness. We tended to park at this side and go over by foot. You are also a short walk away from the shores of Lake Windermere. The cottage was clean and comfortable, had everything we needed. The garden was private (but not fully enclosed). Hot tub was welcome at the end of the day and we used the pool 3 times (the pool is a 10 min drive away). Would definitely recommend.

Great potential

Hilltop was a great cottage that was nice and private with no passing traffic or people. It was a great base to explore the surrounding areas. Everything in the property worked and was ok but it's all a little bit tired and in need of some tlc. I appreciate it is an old cottage but things like the outdoor furniture was broken so unuseable, patio slabs were loose. There is a lovely view of lake windermere but it's blocked by overgrown bushes. The grass wa to overgrown for the kids to play in. It's also all a bit damp inside property. We really enjoyed our stay and would return but it would need some work first or a reduced price. Graythwaite adventure was amazing, the staff here were fantastic and I couldn't recommend them enough. We will definitely be coming back to the estate to use them again.

Family stay.

The house is in a fantastic location, close to the ferry across to Bowness as well as National Trust properties - Hilltop, Wray Castle and Claife viewing station, all worth a visit. Hawkshead and Ambleside are not far by car, and both worth a visit. Great walks and views also close. The hot tub was a great asset and easy to use; matches and fire wood were provided, but it would have been great to have some kindling too. The garden was large and private with partial views of the lake through the tree tops. The house was spacious and comfortable and adequately equipped. however the interior was quite dated (we knew this when we booked - but it was disappointing to see the standard of some maintenance, for example some of the grouting in the shower was very discoloured/mouldy. Window frames also needed some maintenance). As such the house didn’t really feel value for money. During our stay we used the pool on the estate. The booking system was well organised and you have exclusive use. The pool was a good size for an indoor pool and heated well, but again the standard of maintenance let it down, so we only used it once. All that said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the location was perfect.
