Sobre esta propriedade
Northumbrian cottage with splendid valley views, close to Rothbury & Cragside
Enjoying a peaceful elevated position, Armstrong Cottage has splendid views across the Coquet Valley and Rothbury Golf Course below the hillside. Once you’ve parked your car to the rear, walk up the steps up the gravel path to the entrance and step into the beautiful open-plan, light and airy space.
In the kitchen, there is everything you need to prepare a meal for family or friends, equipped with two electric ovens and induction hob, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher. You can then gather round the table and enjoy a homemade meal. The living area is the hub of this home. It’s easy to imagine cosy evenings in front of the wood burner whilst watching a movie on the Smart TV, which features a full Sky package and Netflix, or listening to music through the Bose speaker system. It's the perfect setting to unwind after the day’s events.
Follow the hall, past the up-to-date bathroom with shower over bath and WC, to the first of the bedrooms on the left: a large en-suite bedroom with king-size bed with a large walk-in shower WC. The other two bedrooms include super-king-size zip-and-link beds (Zip-and-link beds can be made up as a twin on request).
Outside, there is a tranquil garden overlooking the valley with ample seating for warm evenings or morning coffee in the fresh air. There is off-road parking for three cars.
A scenic stroll from Armstrong Cottage through the golf course (or along the lane) takes you to the pretty, thriving village of Rothbury. Here you will find an abundance of independent shops, galleries, pubs and eateries, as well as a supermarket, butcher and baker.
Rothbury is also an ideal base from which to explore the spectacular Northumberland countryside and coast, its castles, stately homes, areas of natural beauty, historic landmarks and fascinating history.
Be sure to visit the nearby National Trust property of Cragside House and Gardens, the UK’s fascinating first-ever ‘smart’ home, which is located a few minutes' drive away at the far end of the village. Illuminated by hydro-electricity and powered by hydraulics, Cragside House and estate was created by Victorian inventor Lord William Armstrong and his wife Margaret, whose passions for engineering and natural sciences are reflected across this 19th century masterpiece. Experience the beauty of the changing seasons as you explore the formal gardens, lakes, waterfalls and extensive woodland.
If you are National Trust members, Wallington House and Gardens, gifted to the NT by the nature-loving Trevelyan family, is only 25 minutes' away. The magical Lindisfarne Castle and Holy Island are an hour's drive away, but well worth the trip, as is the wilderness of UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian's Wall and Housestead's Fort.
Located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, there are numerous country and forest trails to discover on your doorstep, providing a haven for ramblers and wildlife alike. A five minute drive away are the walking trails at Simonside (behind Armstrong Cottage) and breathtaking views towards the Cheviot Hills. Or walk from the centre of the village up to the Rothbury Carriageway that you see across the Coquet valley from Armstrong Cottage and enjoy the prettiest views.
Armstrong Cottage is situated in Northumberland’s Dark Sky Park, Europe’s largest area of protected night sky, you can enjoy stargazing on a clear night. Or head over to Kielder Water and Forest International Dark Sky Park, home to Kielder Observatory, ranked as the best place in the UK to see stars.
From Armstrong Cottage, the internationally famous Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Gardens are only 30 minutes' drive away, as are the nearest beautiful beaches at Alnmouth.
If you like being on the water, why not go to Seahouses and take a boat trip to the Farne Islands where you can see seals and puffins? Visit the famous Longstone Lighthouse, from which Grace Darling and her father made their daring rescue of nine shipwreck survivors in 1838.

Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Kate Andreyev
I'm from the north-west, half-English and half-Scottish (despite the not-very-British surname!), I speak and teach French and Spanish, and I definitely drink too much tea. I love the contact with our guests and helping them to have a lovely holiday!
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
We discovered Rothbury and Coquetdale some years ago on a family holiday and loved it so much that we bought a cottage here! Northumberland really has everything fabulous views and walks, numerous castles and stately homes to explore, beaches, islands, wildlife and national parks, the best stargazing in the country - and of course the friendly people! There are so many famous places to visit - Bamburgh Castle, Hadrian's Wall, the Alnwick Garden, Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle, the Cheviot in Northumberland National Park, the stargazing observatory at Kielder, the Farne Islands with its lighthouse and history of Grace Darling's daring rescue, and of course the buzzing city of Newcastle!
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
Our guests often comment on how comfortable, clean and well equipped Armstrong Cottage is. They love the splendid views over the valley, the scenic walks from the door, the many shops and eateries in nearby Rothbury, and how the cottage is a great base for exploring all beautiful Northumberland has to offer. Dramatic Cragside is only five minutes' drive away, with its many walks, stately home and Lord Armstrong's many innovations. A 30-minute (very scenic) drive will take you to Alnwick with its world-famous Castle and Garden, or to the coast with its fabulous beaches.
