The newly paved and smooth South Rochford Road provides the access to this Lodge. At an elevation of 6000ft, it's located 3 miles north of gorgeous Deerfield Lake and 6 miles South of Rochford, SD, the home of the one of a kind Moonshine Gulch Saloon! Enjoy all the character and comfort of this beautiful 2600 sq ft Log Cabin with spectacular views of the surrounding National Forest and Great Sioux Sacred Tribal Land, Pe' Sla, a sacred meadow in the Black Hills where according to the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota peoples it is "the heart of everything that is." It is central to their creation stories and the site for crucial cultural ceremonies.
This is a perfect cabin for a family getaway or simply a relaxing stay. Endless hiking and 4-wheeling opportunities abound from the property. The award winning Mickelson Rail to Trail perfect for biking and Rapid Creek are within 6 miles. Roughly 35 - 45 minutes from Deadwood, Mt.Rushmore, and Crazy Horse. The closest town, the quaint Hill City, is 18 truly beautiful paved miles to the Southeast. Only 28 Miles from the ski slopes of Terry Peak and Lead, SD. Listen to the coyotes howl at dawn and dusk. The stars are simply amazing on a clear night including a spectacular view of the Milky Way! Excellent wildlife viewing from the cabin and surrounding areas.

Great place to stay

This is a great place to stay. Lots of room for many people. Close to Rochford, mountain meadows and Hill City. We fished, ATVā€™d, Biked, hot tubā€™d and so much more. We canā€™t wait to come back and see the new road.

Loved everything about this wonderful cabin. We had everything we needed. Great location. Enjoyed the little chipmunks as well as the beautiful wildflowers! Sitting on the deck every morning was peaceful and relaxing. Hope weā€™ll be able to stay again sometime.

We had a great week at the Alpine Prairie Lodge! We enjoyed the view and the privacy. It had everything we needed plus extra condiments we didnā€™t think we needed. The kids couldnā€™t wait to get back to the cabin each late afternoon/evening. We made supper every night and somehow, even though we make the same things at home, food tastes better in the mountains. We enjoyed the hot tub each night, and also connected as a family and played hide and seek when it got dark.

Didn't want to leave it was so nice

We had three generations of our family staying from ages 6 to 65 and this house was perfect for us. It was so clean and the views are spectacular. It was also so close to the trails and Deerfield Lake which so convenient. We drove our side-by-sides everyday and loved hoping on the trails so close to the Alpine Lodge.

ATV and hiking trip

7 of us enjoyed our stay. We 4-wheeled everyday and drove right off the property. It is so well located, you can go any direction and never ride them all. Host is great! Property is beautiful with amazing sunsets off the wrap around porch. We look forward to stay again!

Our family came to the Black Hills to enjoy the abundance of MVUM roads and trails. We brought our Jeeps and the Alpine Prairie Lodge is right in the middle of some of the seemingly endless possibilities of riding opportunities. The lodge sits right on the newly paved S Rotchford road so access is easy to trailer off road vehicles in. The drive way is a little challenging to back a trailer in but my son is an excellent driver and used to backing our 30 ' trailer and was able to get in the drive. When and if we come back to The Black Hills, The Alpine Prairie Lodge will be on our short list of lodging options.

Sturgis 2023 friends trip

Beautiful home in scenic location. Was everything we were hoping for. Lots of space and amenities. Loved the hot tub, especially after riding all day in the rain! We had very few questions but Greg was extremely responsive when we did. Would absolutely love to come back!!

Family vacation

We came for a family vacation from Wisconsin. The cabin was amazing. Set out about 30 min from the city which we didnā€™t mind at all. Quiet, clean, beautiful setting. The cabin had everything we needed. The WiFi was great as the cell signal was not available until getting back to Hill City. The hosts were super responsive to questions we had. Hot tub was amazing after a long day. Would totally come back.
