Big Sand Lakeside Cabin, Rapids Park, MN

Looking for a true getaway that reminds you of the vacations you took when you were a kid?
We can provide that, with a 2 bedroom cabin 10 feet from the shores of Big Sand Lake, Park Rapids, Minnesota. Big Sand is one of the areas premier fishing and recreational lakes. 1800 acre lake with 35-foot water clarity, hard pack sand bottom, gradual slope out, and no weeds!! Fantastic swimming off the end of the dock. The cabin is a rustic two bedroom with a large deck and lakeside fire pit. There is a double bed in one bedroom. The other bedroom has a bunk bed with full mattress on the bottom and twin on top. Beautiful setting among towering white and red pines, right on the water, with a fabulous fire pit overlooking a natural rocky shoreline. This cabin faces west for the best sunset views in Hubbard County.
The cabin is NOT handicap accessible, and people with mobility issues will find the steps difficult. There are 35 stone steps down (from parking) to cabin and waters edge.
There are no hard-wired phones, but there is wifi and internet access.
Our cabin is part of an old resort, so there are nearby neighbors and we kindly ask that you respect their privacy if they happen to be in residence.
We have a canoe and 2 kayaks for you to enjoy that are included with the cabin rental. There is also a 20ft pontoon with a 60hp motor for rent. Please message for details. Motorized boat rentals will be charged outside of VRBO - please contact Jim - the owner/property manager if interested prior to your check in.

Lakeside getaway

Our family enjoyed our stay on Big Sand, serene & peaceful. Kids loved the kayaks and being right on the water. Hosts were great to work with, would recommend staying here.

Cozy Cabin!

This cabin is so charming! Our family of 5 stayed here and it was perfect. Every amenity you could need was available. We loved being right on the water and didn’t mind the steps leading down to the cabin. Will definitely be looking to book again!

Great Get Away Spot

Cozy cabin right on the water includes everything you need for a perfect stay. Very quiet and peaceful, great views. There are quite a few steps but they weren't a problem.

Lake Vacay

Enjoyed the clear water and sandy bottom of Big Sand Lake. The cabin is quaint and well equipped; you could literally just bring your clothes:) Stone stairs from parking to cabin and lake ARE steep but were discussed in the listing. Realizing it IS listed as not handicap accessible, a handrail would've been welcomed by all. Views and beautiful lake made us all forget the steps:) Very serene! Agent very responsive!

Great cabin experience

The cabin is very cute, clean and well stocked. Kayaks available to use, very fun and easy. Nice fire pit, deck etc. Owners were readily available via text for questions. The lake is very clear, has many loon pairs!

Literally ON the Lake

I was somewhat concerned about the elevation down to the cabin because I have intermittent vertigo, but I was fine and the path down is very sturdy. My stay was relaxing and fun - I checked out the nearby towns, trails, and kayaked. The amenities were plentiful, the cool lake air was perfect for sleeping, and the sound of waves was meditation!

Fantastic!

Super cute cabin with all the amenities we could have hoped for. Bonus was that it was a great place to have our one year old! The lake is just steps away, Jim generously blew up and left get floatie toys for us, and we had a great time in the canoe. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Lakeside Stay

Spent four relaxing nights at this quaint yet wonderful cabin! We appreciated having the fishing boat available to take a tour around the lake. Fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. Our only suggestion is to replace the master bedroom mattress- it is old and rolls you to the center. Thank you for sharing your lakeside retreat!

Cozy and clean

Extra care was taken to make our stay comfortable. The coffee station was filled with an assortment of blends plus hot chocolate and tea. There was a s’more package too! So thoughtful, we enjoyed visiting areas we hadn’t seen for years and then relaxing playing games and having a bonfire.

Family time

We were looking for a place to get some undivided time with our busy teenagers. This was just the place. It was an easy drive to Park Rapids where there were great shops (3 for ice cream alone!) and amenities. We had a tough choice between street concerts and a quiet night on the lake and opted for the lake. The host was very accomodating of needs we had. The cabin had every thing we needed even lovely floaties for the water. We kayaked every night. Hope to return

great romantic getaway

Very nice romantic getaway. Excellent location and a super-clean cabin. My wife and I don't remember when it was last time we spent more than an hour soaking and swimming in such a nice lake... Watching sunsets sitting at the fire pit was a breathtaking experience and Jim and his wife are very nice and friendly people: meeting them was like meeting old good friends. Although I brought my fishing gear, I was not using them spending time entirely on immersing myself in the forest tranquility. This place is great for couples who need a good relaxation form city stress. Every day we were biking on the Heartland trail which is only 5 minutes away from this cabin We would love to return and now planning our vacation for next Summer.

Perfect Spot on the Water

We enjoyed staying so close to the lake; perfect sunsets! Everything we needed was there. We were surprised by the extra deck that was not pictured; giving even more privacy. The stone steps were described accurately going down to the cabin and could be difficult. We enjoy hiking on vacation, so the steps contributed to our daily routine! :) Plus the beautiful area has much to offer. We rented bikes one day from a great bike shop in Park Rapids. Would definitely consider another stay. Thank you, Jim and Shari

Perfect Getaway

There were 4 adults staying in this cabin. The 1st thing we noticed was how clean and organized the cabin was. There was plenty of towels for all of us and the owner even said if we needed more they would be happy to drop them off. The views of the lake are incredible and we enjoyed the daily viewing of the Loons right in front of the cabin. We also appreciated the comfortable furniture inside. It has a large Lazy Boy type lounger, a comfortable sofa, two very comfortable lounge type chairs with ottomans and 4 chairs around the kitchen table, not to mention plenty of seating on both outside decks. We played cards on one of the 2 decks in the evening and enjoyed the peaceful up north feel of the cabin. They even had a bag of marshmallows, graham crackers and Hershey bars for s'mores waiting on the table for us! We definitely enjoyed the week at the cabin!

Peaceful Lake spot

Our family of 5 rented here for a 4 night stay. We were there mid week and most people nearby were gone which made it extra peaceful. We brought our boat and fished a lot with moderate success. Caught northerns, rock bass, perch, sunnies but never got into the walleyes. Sunsets and fires were the highlight along with coffee on the deck in the morning. The owners provide everything you need. Parking worked for us as we put extra car and boat trailer at bottom of hill. Nice it’s so close to Zorbaz and Dorset. The stairs are a hike if u pack a lot like we do with 3 kids but a little stairs never hurt anyone :)

Exactly what we were looking for

Wonderful Little Cabin, Beautiful Lake

Everything was as planned. Super clean and cabin was stocked perfectly- even ice in the freezer and ingredients for smores were left. Quiet and peaceful setting - a wonderful getaway close enough to town.

Hi, we're Jim and Shari Emerrson. Jim is from Iowa and began vacationing on Big Sand Lake in the mid 60's when he was six years old, and was fortunate enough to buy a cabin there in 1994. Shari is from Park Rapids and we met for the first time at the cabins, and ultimately got married there. This is our personal cabin and we have spent many summers enloying the beauty of Big Sand Lake with family and friends. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!

My family has been vacationing on Big Sand Lake since the early sixties and when the opportunity came up to buy these special cabins at Coolridge, I couldn't resist. It is the perfect spot to get away and now that I have my own son to spend time here, it has just come full circle.
