Top Side Cottage sits elevated above Somes Sound with commanding views of Park Mountains and Ocean.  Sitting above the tree tops yet being able to throw a rock to the ocean is the best of both worlds!  The wildlife and boating activities you see from Top Side are like non-other.  Combine this with the peaceful, private setting and you have the perfect get-a-way location! Top Side Cottage offers all the amenities of home, including: Full size appliances, washer / Dryer, all linens, granite fire place, large deck, flat screen satellite TV with 115 channels, free WiFi access, private parking with unobstructed breathtaking views over Somes Sound and Sargent Mountain. Top Side Cottage on Somes Sound comes with a deep water dock perfect for fishing or keeping your boat. Enjoy the sunrise and quiet island atmosphere from your own deck, and listen to the loons at sunset. A deepwater mooring is complimentary if you are bringing / renting a boat. Top Side Cottage is well maintained, and kept to the highest standards in cleanliness and quality. We provide all the firewood you need, soap, detergent, paper towels, trash removal, and even a large kettle to cook your fresh Maine lobsters which you may purchase at boat price from our dock. Enjoy fine local restaurants, and spend the day in Bar Harbor which is only a 10 minute drive.

What a fantastic property! They have thought of everything and provided a great list of nearby activities as well as books, games, playing cards. Excellent lobster prices from Paul the host. Sorry we took the clothes pin with us when we left!

Great fall getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed Top Side Cottage. Great views from the living room. Good water pressure with plenty of hot available. A special treat to sit by the fire in the cool evenings with plenty of firewood provided. So happy to have the washer & dryer to clean up our hiking clothes at the end of the trip. Hooray for a strong WiFi signal. Great central location for exploring Mt. Desert Island.

The Quietside/Quarry Rules

Exactly what it is marketed as. Well equipped, plenty of room for 4. Clean. Perfect location for staying on the Quietside or heading over to the busier part of Acadia. Totally satisfied. Bugs and weather cooperated too.

Amazing View!

We enjoyed a wonderful week staying at the Top Side cottage. The view of Somes Sound and Acadia's mountains from the patio and living room is absolutely stunning. I was tempted to just stay on the patio and savor the view, but the location was central to everywhere we wanted to go... mostly hiking throughout the park, but also dining in Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. We appreciated how well supplied the cottage was with soap, detergent, towels, and even wood for the fireplace. Thanks so much for your hospitality, Paul.

Amazing stay! Location, View and Home!

We loved our stay at Topside! Paul and Ashlee were extremely hospitable and accommodating! The home is well kept, well stocked and was perfect for our week vacation in Acadia National Park. We loved the location, because it was in the middle of Mount Desert Island and gave us easy access to different areas of touring the park. And you absolutely can't beat the view. We could have spent hours a lone just sitting out on the back porch enjoying the view. We got to catch a few beautiful sunrises as well. I would definitely recommend staying at Topside - we can't wait to be back! Thank you!

Perfect Hidden Gem in the heart of Acadia

Year after year we look forward to returning to this perfect Acadia get away. Amazing views of Somes Sound and the distant mountains. You will want for nothing in these fully stocked spacious cottages scattered on a hillside but each with total privacy. There are days we simply do not want to leave the cottage. This is on the quiet side of the island but close enough to everything with Bar Harbor less than 15 minutes away. Paul & Ashlee are so sweet and accommodating and only a stones throw away if you have any questions. Rain or shine, we have never had a bad stay here. Brian G. & David Papa

A great place on the Quietside

We really enjoyed our stay. The feel of the place is "cottage" or "camp" however the location and the view can't be beat. The place was clean and the furniture was comfortable. It was so nice to be staying far from the crowds, and yet Acadia NP is close and easy to get to. Our hosts were incredibly responsive. The refrigerator was noisy (and apparently old, although it didn't look it) and I wasn't even going to mention it, but thought they should know. The day after I brought it up, they put in a new refrigerator. Oh yeah--the lobsters bought at cost from our host were the freshest and tastiest I've ever had!

Cute cottage with fabulous location on Somes Sound

Perfect location (far enough from the crowds, but still close to all of Acadia Nat’l Park’s activities), amazing view of Somes Sound from the patio, spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished with what seemed to be new comfortable mattresses, super-responsive host/owner, fresh lobster right off the dock a 2 minute walk down the hill, and very reasonably priced….what more can you ask for a great Maine vacation.

Great location

We stayed at this wonderful house September 18 thru September 25. It was so comfortable and the view we saw every morning overlooking the sound was beautiful. Its location to the Acadia National Park made it a perfect space to explore this treasure. It was close to grocery store, and several restaurants. Paul was very welcoming and we spoke with him on a couple of occasions and he shared information on the area and on lobstering. We are definitely returning to this house.

Great property

Topside cottage was everything we needed in a perfect location. The views of Somes sound and the mountains from both inside and out were beautiful. The property was clean and well maintained. The common docks were great. Kids loved fishing, taking out the rowboat and picking up the fresh lobsters from the docks. We would definitely stay here again. It was close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor to be convenient but far enough away to be peaceful and quiet.

Amazing time w/ an amazing view!

We had a great time at Paul's property -- all the essentials were there for us, including filters, LOTS of towels, linens, firewood, and more. We made heavy use of the fireplace and the home was extremely cozy. Paul was also quick to respond to questions we had about things we could do in the area. If you're curious about internet speeds and working remotely, we were all working remotely (4 of us), and we didn't have any issues w/ the internet speed. I think we were getting somewhere around ~20Mbps so plenty for surfing the internet, streaming, or Zoom meetings. We would definitely come back again!

Perfect Maine Get Away

We had a wonderful week in Acadia. This house was exactly what we needed for our stay. It came prepared with all the basic needs, had beautiful views, and was close to everything we wanted to see and do. The property owners were super friendly and we loved being able to get fresh lobster from the dock! We can not recommend this location enough! Can’t wait to come back again!

Terrific stay with terrific hosts

The house was perfect. Super clean, covid practices in place. Everything needed was there. They even prepped the fireplace to be ready to light. Loved having a washer and dryer with detergent on site. Hosts supplied all soap for laundry and dishwasher. Be sure to let Paul know if you want lobster and then pick them up right from the dock in front of the houses. Amazing views from the back patio. Paul took us on a boat tour of the lighthouses. It was a great way to see them from the ocean. Highly recommend Topside for all your MDI adventures.
