We offer two separate vacation cottage rental units on False River with a private two story pier and dock for your boat. Each unit is rented separately. And the pier is shared by both renters. False River has become a popular place for boating, fishing, and various water sport enthusiasts across southern Louisiana. We are located approximately six miles from New Roads, Louisiana — the heart of Pointe Coupee Parish. False River is a 10.5 mile long "trophy lake." To be a "trophy lake" means that fish of a certain size are required to be thrown back to grow larger. False River has often held the state record for the largest number of striped bass per acre in the state. If you're into water sports, False River is a great place to go tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding, boating, and jet skiing. Fishful Thinking is conveniently located to shopping, gas stations, restaurants, bars, and boat launches. The boat launches are located at either end of False River. The launch located on the northern end of the lake , is a free public boat launch with barbecue and picnic facilities. Satterfields is right next door and offers a fuel dock right on the water. Another boat launch located on the southern end of the lake is open to the public with a small fee to access. The Sandbar (bar and restaurant) is located south only 5 camps down from Fishful Thinking which also has a boat launch and gasoline on the water. Nearby attractions include downtown New Roads (8 miles), St Francisville (15 miles), Baton Rouge (30 miles), and New Orleans (100 miles) from False River. There are several historic homes and civil war historical sites to see near False River. When it's time for a lake house vacation, please stay at Fishful Thinking. We will provide a great experience for you!

Nice and relaxing

We really enjoyed our stay the cottage is decorated in Margaritaville which is just up my alley very peaceful and nice to sit on balcony overlooking the water. Really hope to go there again next year. Owners are very attentive. Exactly what we needed thanks so much again.

Such a great stay!

This is our second time staying at Fishful Thinking and we absolutely love it! Micki is so accommodating and helpful. We have stayed in both the top and now the bottom cabin and both are extremely well equipped, has all you need in the kitchen, comfortable beds and a beautiful dock to tie up your boat. We will be back!!

Fantastic Camp - Great Owner

Such a great set-up! We occupied both units for an Easter family gathering and it was perfect, in spite of the weather. Caught fish from the dock, enjoyed the boat rides, the crawfish boil was a big success….. everything we needed! Will definitely recommend this camp and look forward to staying again. Weekend Getaway!

We went to LA to visit the Angola Prison Rodeo (quite an adventure) and found this place. Sunrise was beautiful, place was nicely decorated and well stocked. Others have mentioned a bug issue - love bugs and gnats the first night at sunset, but otherwise we spent a lot of time on the deck and sitting by the fire pit. We ate at the Sandbar - good bar food and walkable. I would definitely recommend!

An apartment, not whole house.

In listing is says you may share pier with other home. I was not aware this meant top and bottom of house is rented out separately. Luckily no one rented below us. We had toddler running around which would have been disturbing for the downstairs renters. House was not clean how it should. Had dishes with old green bean stuck to it. Fouton looked dirty, so I stayed clear from sitting on it. The mattresses are horribly uncomfortable, you can feel springs and it dipped in middle. Deck needs tending to, boards coming up and cob webs all over it. Vacuum had someone else’s dirt in it, it wasn’t dumped, so I didn’t turn it on. No dish washer, so if you cook a lot, save an hr out your time to wash before leaving. (Which no one likes to do on their relaxing wkend getaway) Only good thing is the location.

Jesse, I'm very sorry you had a poor experience at Fishful Thinking. When it comes to the layout of the units, we try to specify which unit you are reserving by the property labels "Fishful Thinking Upstairs" or "Fishful Thinking Downstairs." As for the cleanings, I apologize for the lack thereof. I can assure you we have hired a new cleaning staff who are being held to much higher standards. The dock is also being worked on. We understand it is in mediocre condition, and we are currently in the process of repairing the rotting boards. As for the cobwebs, we spray a spider repellent around the entire property frequently, but most other properties on the lake continue to have the same issue with the spiders. I also apologize for the lack of a dishwasher, but you can see the property listing does list all amenities included in the unit and kitchen specifically. I hope these repairs and changes somewhat rectify the flaws you have pointed out, and I am extremely sorry that your stay was not up to the standards of Fishful Thinking. Thanks, Micki Kieta

We will definitely be coming back and scheduling enough ahead to get the top and bottom rental.

Micki was awesome and very accommodating. We couldn't find anything available last minute that would accommodate our big family and He allowed us to pass the limit that was allowed as long as we didn't wreck the place. We weren't able to get the bottom floor rented, but it was a nice big open floor plan that fit everyone comfortably. It was the perfect spot with the boat ramp and bar next door.

Our experience

First off the place is great. Great location was great and easy check in and it was clean. Things that we didn’t like. Master bedroom had no tv. But most of all unfortunately the mosquitoes at night was like a horror film. Could not even open door. Tried using vacuum but vacuum had a torn bag so did not work. This was our biggest dissatisfaction. Had 2 days but only stayed one night. I know you are next to water so maybe this could be the issue but still. Overall it was ok wish it could have been better. This was a staycation but was exhausting going up and down stairs. Don’t know if I will return. Of course this is my opinion and my experience

Hector, I’m very sorry to hear your stay at Fishful Thinking was less than satisfactory, we try to accommodate our guests with everything needed to make for a good vacation. Apologies about the lack of television in the master bedroom, but we do provide a TV in the other bedroom as well as the living room. As for the mosquitos, we really don’t have much of a problem with mosquitoes most of the year, I believe you may be thinking of the gnats. If so, I do understand that there are a lot of gnats in the summertime, and I am extremely sorry if they made your stay unenjoyable. Excellent Location

We had a wonderful time at the cottage. It was cozy and clean with a beautiful view of false river. It was stocked with plenty of necessities. The only problem we had was the mosquitoes on the porch. Please bring plenty of repellent. We didn't get to set out in the late evening our night because the mosquitoes covered the porch.

Nice place

Nice, quiet place. We were in town for an LSU game, booked a few weeks out and paid about 85% less than the homes available in Baton Rouge. We had about a 30 minute drive to the stadium (via Uber) but well worth it compared to prices in Baton Rouge.

Weekend in False River

Nice camp on the lake, that’s comfortable and has a nice view. Great for fisherman. Only negative is bedrooms are on the road side. If your a lite sleeper this place is not for you.
