Upper Canyon Lookout’s views of the Lincoln National Forest and Sierra Blanca Mountain are spectacular from inside as well as from the huge 455 sq. ft. deck. The mountain views and quiet surroundings provide a feeling of seclusion, but the Ruidoso shopping district and restaurants are just 2 miles down the mountain. In addition to the views, the deck is a favorite area for relaxing in the cool mountain breeze while watching the wildlife. deer, hummingbirds, and turkeys are frequent visitors with an occasional sighting of fox, elk, and bear. In the summer, our family loves to cook on the deck’s gas grill and enjoy all our meals outside on the deck’s dining and picnic tables.
During winter weather, your family and friends can enjoy the same mountain views from our large open living room, kitchen and dining area with vaulted wood ceiling and beautiful stone gas-log fireplace (instant on/off for your convenience and pleasure). Stay entertained playing board games, cards, dominos, WII, catching up on old times, or watching the 55” Smart LED HDTV . DVD player is provided and surround sound is available for TV, DVD and radio. The Smart LED HDTV in living area & in all 4 bedrooms connect to our internet. Living room & Master bedroom have HULU live TV. Use your personal account to watch Netflix, Prime, HULU etc. on all TVs.
Our single-level cabin has a 2-car carport, WIFI, central heat, air conditioning, richly grained cabinetry, granite counter tops, unique tiling, and wood tone flooring throughout. Each of the 4 bedrooms has its own bathroom, ceiling fan, and an HDTV smart TV. 3 bedrooms have king-size beds and 1 bedroom has a queen-size bed. The fully- equipped kitchen has a large bar, dishwasher, and room for multiple cooks. The laundry room provides a washer, dryer; sink, iron & ironing board, and room to store your golf clubs or ski boots.
While Upper Canyon Lookout provides many ways to make new memories, there are many things to see and enjoy in the area. See the map section for our cabin's proximity to some favorite activities.

PLEASE NOTE: If it snows even lightly, you may need a 4-wheel drive vehicle or chains at a very minimum. For substantial snow, you will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle with chains on all 4 wheels.

This is the best place we have stayed at . We come here every year at Christmas. The home is fully stocked with everything you need . We do a lot of cooking and spending time near the fireplace. The deck and gorgeous view is also second to none. Carlene and Terry are excellent hosts, the best I have dealt with .

We have been coming to Ruidoso every summer for over 30 years, it is one of our favorite places to visit. I can honestly say this cabin was one of the best places we have ever stayed. The host was very accommodating and helpful with all the flooding situation Ruidoso was having.The view was one of the best views we have had, and the wildlife passing by was amazing! We were lucky enough to see a bear!I highly recommend this cabin!

July 4th Vacation

Cabin was very clean and comfortable. Great view from back porch. We saw lots of wildlife including elk, deer, foxes, bear, hummingbirds, woodpeckers and raven. I highly recommend this place is was so peaceful.

Beautiful Home

Great weekend!! We were able to see deer, moose, turkeys, and wild horses. This home was ideal for a large family or friends. Nothing was forgotten - owners stocked the house with all the needs anyone could ask for.

Our favorite home in Ruidoso

This is our favorite home in Ruidoso. It was our 4th stay and once again, everything was perfect. The house is clean, inviting and well-stocked. The large, covered deck has beautiful mountain views and is the perfect place for a morning cup and coffee and viewing the Ruidoso wildlife. We look forward to our next visit!

Lovely cabin

Our family of 5 loved our stay at the cabin. The spacious and clean rooms made the cabin even more enjoyable. The back porch view was amazing. We had a beautiful view from every bedroom room, living room, kitchen and even bathroom. We saw several elk, wild turkeys, deer and even some wild horses our drive up the mountain to the cabin. Would highly recommend this cabin.

Incredible home and views.

My family and I spent Christmas at this lovely cabin. The cabin was very nice, clean and well stocked for all of our needs. The host even had a tree and Christmas decor up for us . We will definitely be going back again.

The Most Beautiful House We Have Stayed At

This has been the best house we have ever booked on VRBO. It has perfect views and is great for couples, families, and multiple families. Beautiful Mountain Getaway

The home is inviting and comfortable with the best equipped kitchen ever! Loved the deck - it is large and has a lovely view of the mountains. Wild life visits the area off the deck. We saw turkeys and deer. The hosts are quick to respond and so very kind!

Wonderful Vacation

Had a great time. Spent a lot of time out on the deck Where we saw Turkey, Deer, Fox, Elk and even a Bear. We cooked family meals and played a lot of cards. This was our fifth year at Upper Canyon lookout. Love this property.

Beautiful mountaintop retreat

This is the second year we've stayed here, and our new favorite! So comfortable, with four nice bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom, beautiful and comfortable common areas and super well-stocked kitchen, and deck with plenty of seating and amazing view (though, with visible evidence of the recent fires). Owners warned us of the possibility of an occasional temporary water or power outage, since Ruidoso is still in recovery mode. This did happen, but Terry was super-responsive and kept in close contact until the problems were solved. We were able to manage just fine and had a wonderful time hanging out, visiting with local family and going on outings. They have jugs of water for flushing during outages and we brought a five gallon water container with a pump that we put by the laundry room sink which was great for brushing teeth, washing faces, etc. This house is just minutes from downtown shopping and restaurants, yet you feel like you're in the wilderness! The wild horses came to our cabin, along with deer and wild turkey and we saw a lot of elk around town. We were so thankful we had this beautiful place to stay wedding visiting and that we could support Ruidoso family and businesses. Will definitely come back!

Great house with Awesome hosts

We have been staying here since 2020 and this house is perfect. Great location 5 minutes from downtown but perfectly quiet setting with great views. Terry and Carlene are awesome hosts that do everything in their power to make everything feel like home. Even through the fires and floods that Ruidoso experienced this year they were on top of everything. The even notified us of a water outage that the city had before we noticed it. You will never have a regret if you tent this house!!

Beautiful Home

This cabin was perfect for our family to enjoy our much needed time together. Mornings out on the huge covered porch with an amazing view of the mountain. Deer greeting us each morning. Kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook breakfast. Living Area was also very cozy for all to gather and reminisce. Would highly recommend to stay here. I look forward to our next stay at this beautiful home.

Wonderful stay

My family has been building memories in Ruidoso since the early 1950's. The early days were spent in my grandparent's cabin. In 2018, we were fortunate to build our new family cabin to continue the tradition. In sharing our cabin with you, we hope you will start your own tradition of memory making in beautiful Ruidoso.

We knew we had to continue our tradition in the nostalgic upper canyon historic district. Over the years, we hiked to the new location of our home admiring the beautiful views, wildlife, and solitude; dreaming of one day being lucky enough to have a cabin in the location. Our dreams became a reality in July 2018.
