The farmhouse is located on a ten acre farm with horses and chickens. It is a peaceful and beautiful place to relax, gather with friends and family, or retreat to work on a project. Close to Afton Alps, Stillwater, Hudson, WI, and 3M headquarters. 30 minutes to St. Paul.

Great place for biking, hiking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and downhill skiing at Afton Alps. Beautiful base to explore the St. Croix River Valley and all it has to offer.

Cyclists come from all over to bike the hills in Afton. Afton State Park includes river beaches, walking in restored prairies or along the river, and snowshoe and cross country ski trails in the winter. Downhill skiing is 5 minutes down the road. Trout fishing or kayaking in the Kinnickinnic River in nearby Wisconsin.

The small town of Afton has a few shops, a wine bar, and a popular ice cream shop. 10 minutes drive to Hudson, WI with unique shops and restaurants. 20 minutes to Stillwater, MN or Prescott, WI. Night cross country ski trails at Lake Elmo. Hiking in nearby Belwin Conservancy 5 minutes down the road. 20 minutes to 3M headquarters.

Guests have a fenced in back yard and have access to walking trails on the farm. There is a one car garage.

MN trip

Great time despite sketchy, rainy weather in December. Loved taking hikes around farm with our dogs, playing cards and games around wood stove. Had other family visit and all loved it. Some did nearby skiing despite weather. About 30 min to airport too which was nice. Great location.

Picturesque Property

We absolutely loved our stay at Windhill Farm. The animals were such a fun addition to sitting and enjoying coffee on the back patio. The amenities were exactly as described. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable. Beautiful property to take a morning walk and enjoy unique historic features. Close to the historic Afton community shops. I recommend this rental and would stay again.

Beautiful property and location

Beautiful, quaint farmhouse on a pristine property. Everything was clean and a had a lot of amenities. We especially enjoyed the wood fires in the stove which made for a cozy stay. The fenced in backyard was perfect for our dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and highly recommend! Would love to explore the property more in the summer if we return then...

Windy Hill Farm, Afton MN

A favorite VRBO rental! The farm and surroundings are beautiful with walking trails that connect to Afton State Park. The bedrooms are upstairs and laundry downstairs in the basement. Both sets of stairs are a bit narrow we found. The house is comfy, clean, and well stocked. The backyard is fenced and has a great patio, with a gas grill, table and chairs to relax while looking out over the pastures. Quiet, except for some motorcycle noise over Memorial day weekend. It was a pleasure to meet Lucy the property owner and her horses and chickens.

10 Beautiful Acres to Walk your Dog

This quaint old farmhouse is situated on 10 acres and located 5 walking minutes to Afton State Park. The property is beautiful and I so enjoyed the fresh farm eggs. Lucy was so accommodating and supplied me with firewood to burn on cool evenings. I loved the small town of Afton and enjoyed the restaurants. The home is located on a busy road and can be noisy with motorcycles on the weekends. However, it’s worth it to ignore or go explore Stillwater or Hudson.

Amazing location and scenery

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 month stay at the farm. The view every morning was gorgeous. The close proximity to miles of walking trails at Afton State Park and the fun of being close to restaurants and shops in Afton made it an extra enjoyable stay. The owner is wonderful to work with and made it truly our home away from home.

Home away from Home

We had an extended stay at the Windhill farm house of 9 weeks as we were in between houses. The home accommodated our family of 5 very well. Lucy is an extremely friendly and wonderful host and was immediately responsive to anything that came up/we asked for. The property is very well maintained. We loved the ability to enjoy farm life without the responsibility of doing the work though our girls always wanted to help, along with the ability to wander into Afton State Park. We would definitely stay here again.

Charming farmhouse

This well-kept older farmhouse was great for a break from hectic everyday life. No TV (although they do have wi-fi) and beautifully colored chickens roaming the property and greeting you when you emerge from the front door make it a laid-back experience. We even found a dozen multi-colored eggs provided for us in the refrigerator. We chose this property because it is only about 5 minutes from the Afton Alps ski resort, which unfortunately had just closed for coronavirus. But we still had a good time at the farmhouse!

A Wonderful Holiday at Wind Hill Farm

Our family of four (myself, husband, and two young adult kids) LOVED our two brief stay at Wind Hill Farm for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Simply but very tastefully furnished, it was very comfortable. The house is located on a beautiful piece of property--trees out every window, a real break from city living. Peaceful and unplugged family time. Thanks to our gracious host, Lucy. We will return!

Great place!

Wonderful farmhouse - clean, cozy, had everything we needed. Loved having the horses and chickens around! The walking trails on the property were well-kept, and to have Afton state park within walking distance was an added bonus. The wi-fi was sometimes unreliable but we were there to unplug anyway. Lucy was easy to communicate with and quick to respond. I would recommend!

Lovely Farm Setting

We enjoyed our stay here for a long weekend. It truly is an old farmhouse with old floors and doors, but kept up clean and quaint. With updated bathrooms and kitchen, you had the comforts of today with the feeling of living on a farm. We even got to enjoy having horses and chickens without the work of caring for them. Farm fresh eggs for breakfast too! Beautiful country setting and a lovely place to stay. Owner very nice and easy to work with too.

Charming farmhouse

Wonderful girls weekend close to home. The house has all the amenities you need. And we were treated to fresh eggs from the farm chickens. The house is close to downtown Afton, and short drives to Stillwater and Hudson for shopping and restaurants.
